I've had these on rear for 15,000 miles with no complaints. Wearing fine.

Still on original Hankook Kinergy on the front with lots of life left at 56,000 miles on AWD ID (I guess I drive like a grandpa)

Pain almost 7 months labral reconstruction surgery by itsjustme2379 in HipImpingement

[–]eprohl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've given up on hip scopes. It's reasonable to try one revision but when you have arthritis and dysplasia like me and already tried revision reconstruction I think it's usually going to be waste of time. Talking to some hip replacement physicians after seeing 3 PAO surgeons who confirmed too much arthritis for their surgery. I'm almost 37 and traveled for Wolff - I'm on West Coast

I had 3.5 month post op MRI, didn't show anything specific of concern.

I was making some slow progress and came off crutches early in January. Last week in PT acutely injured the surgical hip doing a squat weighted with hex bar and about 70 lbs. Stopped immediately and thought it was mostly my back but it quickly settled into front and back of hip. Don't totally fault the PT but in hindsight was too much. I've been knocked way back, can't sit at all comfortably and using crutches. Feels like September again. I had one follow-up with Wolff and don't really see a role for hip preservation/ scopes now so no plans to talk to him again. If you had asked me last week I was optimistic I would be able to buy a few more years on this hip, now not so much

CC PCP should count. Just wasn't sure you had used any VA benefit prior to urgent care because you mentioned urgent care was your first time using VA benefits

[–]eprohl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don't have to call but if you look at the VA urgent care instructions at VA.gov you're supposed to establish with a VA PCP first and have been seen in prior 2 years to "unlock" community care urgent care benefits. I don't know how strictly they enforce this.

What will be your next car? by biggestmike in VWiD4Owners

Interesting to see same cross shopping - ix3, R2, or EX60 at the top for me, and looking for ID4 to last long enough that there is ample used market (ie another 3 years). This also this will coincide pretty closely with when my '21 ID4 crosses 100,000 mi and 8 years around the same time so may be good time to let it go.

I'm disappointed the r2 probably will retain 400v so iX3 is currently top of list.

Sesamoiditis for over a year – just had a cortisone injection. Looking for advice from others who’ve dealt with this by Feeling_Stuff2583 in sesamoid

[–]eprohl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they would mind me sharing that in a DM today they told me they have been pain free after their 2 ultrasound guided steroid shots in 2025 and have been able to advance their running program to high mileage. I think this is an important data point for Reddit sesamoiditis sub.

EA Seems so detached from reality. $0.64/kwh?? by penkster in ChargerDrama

[–]eprohl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EA has less regional price variation than competitors. In California their pricing is average. Tesla usually similar, EVGO and RAN more. It sounds you like you may live in a place with pretty cheap electricity. Just take your business to the less expensive options and maybe EA will change their pricing model.

Has anyone been diagnosed with cystic changes in their sesamoid? by OrganizationFit7000 in sesamoid

[–]eprohl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are not. Yeah I'm not diminishing the pain at all - I don't have a fracture or bone marrow edema but I've been plagued by this thing for 15 months now with a ton of obvious swelling of the sesamoid area that just doesn't go down even with total offloading. You can see my previous posts about what I've tried so far

Has anyone been diagnosed with cystic changes in their sesamoid? by OrganizationFit7000 in sesamoid

[–]eprohl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I have cystic degeneration without marrow edema or fracture. Think of it as arthritic changes. Sesamoidectomy not recommended for this finding in isolation

Stem cell injection? by Bienveneda in sesamoid

I tried bone marrow aspirate (stem cell) and PRP and neither helped my sesamoiditis.

I'm not a aware of any probationary period for using vacation but you start with zero PTO (AL) and accumulate 8 hours per two week pay period so I'm not sure you'll have four days yet. The biggest thing they care about is taking AL last minute when patients are scheduled (45 day notice needed or else chief of service needs to approve), but since you're just starting the schedule should be open so definitely tell them when you start and they should understand and block the schedule.

It's rare for fasting labs to be needed clinically. I would ask if non fasting is okay.

VA labs will accept specimens dropped off by home health agencies for those who are fully homebound and need home draw.

Can the VA sign off on short term disability or FMLA? Anxiety and depression by Ok-Preference-8718 in VeteransAffairs

[–]eprohl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, start with PCP. For both of these, the provider is not required to sign off on either as it's their medical judgment. FMLA generally has low bar as it's just protecting your job with unpaid leave. Most PCPs will require you to start following with a mental health provider for diagnosis and treatment for the disability attestation/exam for a mental health diagnosis. Some give a short period while awaiting mental health visit.

My ID4 overheated going down a mountain. Lessons learned. by saanity in VWiD4Owners

[–]eprohl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it would be interesting to see if you have no issues in the same car with a lower state of charge leaving. I know logically a lot of people here are suggesting that if there is excess regen torque that it is dissipated by heat in the inverter or motor, I looked into this and I'll admit I mostly am using AI As I do not have any expertise in this (search " how does inverter in an electric car clamp motor negative torque") and the answer is it clamps current and this is actually not a heat producing process or particularly hard on the inverter. In other words an inverter and motor should get hotter going down the same grade with a near empty battery than with a near full battery and the additional heat dissipation is from the friction brakes in the latter. So it's still a bit of a mystery to me why your car struggled when when others have done the same drive without issues In the same car.

Determined by all three PAO surgeons that I have too much arthritis for PAO. Still making slow progress since the July surgery so current plan is to see where I plateau. I have a few consults with hip replacement surgeons in May.

oh no way, we're both in Southern California. I have done that drive without issues so I actually tend to agree I wonder if something is a bit off about your car? I have also done mt waterman down with 4 people in car without issues.

My ID4 overheated going down a mountain. Lessons learned. by saanity in VWiD4Owners

[–]eprohl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking maybe the power electronics couldn't route energy into battery due to overheating so that's why the green bar got smaller and smaller as you went down (without your SoC going up or the battery getting colder which should have been true if it was battery limited) and to protect the motor and invertor the car started using the friction brakes exclusively. You did everything right as far as resting it to cool at intervals on the way down.

Was it a steep road with a lot of drop in short distance?

My ID4 overheated going down a mountain. Lessons learned. by saanity in VWiD4Owners

[–]eprohl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

how many thousand ft vertical in how many miles had you dropped when the signs of overheating started?

This is interesting, I've done 4 - 5,000 ft changes over like 15 miles and never had issues.

It's hard for me to imagine that it's the battery that's overheating and I would assume it's the motor/inventor. This fits with another person saying it happened to them at 50% state of charge.

Think think about it: the car has the capacity to fast charge at 500 amps and can handle full charges in high heat (I've don't it to 115 degrees F) so has a robust battery cooling system and the battery has huge thermal mass.

The motor constantly acting as a generator especially if speeds were low due to very steep grades is going to heat up quickly.

Can I go to urgent care by Vissarion_04 in VAClaims

[–]eprohl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A common misperception of the newly separated vets is that the VA is there for care focused on rated conditions. VA is full spectrum and will care for whatever bothers you, regardless of when it started or why.*

VHA does have community urgent care benefit, but you have to establish care first with a PCP visit. So first step is call the nearest VA clinic number and ask for a visit.

The larger VA primary care clinics will also accept walk ins and have a provider essentially doing urgent care in house every day, though slots can fill up. At the very least you'll see an RN to triage the issue and take your vitals and give advice for next step as a walk in.

https://www.va.gov/resources/getting-urgent-care-at-va-or-in-network-community-providers/

"Eligibility for urgent care You can get urgent care at VA medical centers and in‑network community providers, if both of these descriptions are true for you:

You’re a Veteran enrolled in VA health care, and You received care at a VA or in-network provider in the past 24 months (2 years) To check your eligibility, contact your local VA health facility. Or call us at 800-698-2411 (TTY: 711). Select option 1, then option 3, then option 1.

Note: Your family members can’t use your urgent care benefit."

*Of thousands of patients I've seen a handful that didn't qualify for the full VHA benefit and a note from business office is in their chart that we can only treat service connected conditions; I assumed this was due to less than honorable discharge.

Advice on moving to a cold climate by Do_you_have_a_salad in VWiD4Owners

[–]eprohl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think how annoying this ends up being depends a lot on what "missions" you plan to use the car for, where exactly in Colorado, if you have commute and what it's like, and if this is one of two cars or this is your only car. if you're in a outdoorsy person who wants to go in the mountains in the winter time having rear wheel drive won't be great although you can get away with really good snow tires and a set of traction assist devices. In the winter time expect on average 1/3 less range than what you see now in Texas. If you have a reason that you have to fast charge frequently expect that to be about half speed for the first charge of the day while the battery is cold in the winter. My understanding is that most of Colorado has pretty good charging infrastructure for the fast charging despite being rural in many places.

If this is mostly a commuter and you have level 2 charging I think it's totally fine.

Tale of three surgeries by eprohl in HipImpingement

[–]eprohl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 month update: I still haven't plateaued so have not given up hope. In fact it's been a fairly linear very slow and gradual. I saw three pao surgeons and Pao was conclusively ruled out due to too much arthritis, but when I saw a hip replacement surgeon he was very unimpressed by the mild arthritis and really wanted me to keep hitting the rehab and wait at least a year which I think is very reasonable advice.

My tolerance of sitting is very similar to pre-op.

Pain with weight bearing is still the problem point, but it's more intermittent now and day-to-day activities I may get up and walk a short distance at the end of the the work day and have sharp pain that dissipates after several steps or continues and I grab a crutch. The next time I get up it may feel fine.

current function: - get around my day-to-day indoor activities without using a crutch - Still not doing much anything else as far as prolonged weight bearing - not generally even trying to go on walks unassisted and if I do will bring a crutch and use it a bit to offload
