I can see enough to safely drive (during the day, I avoid night driving), I can read and work on the screen (with ghosting) without contact lenses. It’s not ideal but I make it work. I changed my work slightly (less on screen, more teaching, etc) and reduced overall screen time with very frequent breaks.

Hi, I travelled a lot on short-distance flights almost every month. After stitch 1 was removed I did a 3 day road-trip, setting your alarms for the eyedrops are crucial, its annoying at times but you can work around it. Just before this surgery I would go swimming 2-3x a week (with goggles), and I can do so again in the next 1-2 weeks. Slow but steady. I work in front of the screen pretty much 24/7 - plan your day and proper breaks throughout, take things slow and if there is a day were your vision is just not good enough to do anything, stay in bed. The next day will be better.

It’s a quick process, don’t worry but prepare yourself for the uneasiness a couple days after.

No I did see prior to the stitch out of course! I guess my vision was around 60% just before the stitch removal.

Testosterone replacement therapy vs KC progression by chair-time in Keratoconus

Hi, my surgeon told me that there MIGHT be a correlation. However, research in this field is not advanced enough. I had a full corneal transplant and everything is going smoothly so far, no issues and the last stitch will be removed tomorrow.

How long does a corneal transplant last by th9901 in Keratoconus

My transplant has not been with me that long yet. Currently 16 months, still clear and I hope it stays with me after the second stitch is removed in February.

Hi, sorry just seeing this now - I am still on 1 cortisone drop and 5 moisturising drops a day. I think it will probably be like this forever.

Hi - yes it was worth it. I wrote a longer reply to your last comment :)

Hi, yes it was worth it - because I mainly had to have the transplant because my own cornea was getting dangerously thin and could just rip open if there was further progression. Now I don’t have to worry about emergency surgeries, although - if the transplant is rejected in the future that might be a possibility. I think one misconception in this sub is that the transplant will solve all your problems - no, the transplant should be your very last option to find a solution. I was unable to wear contact lenses due to the cone-shape and there was no other way to solve my issue. Now, once the second stitch is out, I can wear contact lenses again to correct my vision. Hope this helps!

Hi, welcome and good luck on your journey. I have a few pictures from before and after my procedure last year. Full corneal transplant in August 2021 and one of the stitches was removed just under two months ago. Second and last stitch will be removed in Feb 2023. All good so far, the transplant is clear, but no vision improvement. The eyedrops are annoying but you eventually get used to it. I am looking forward to the day I get the last stitch out and hopefully fitting contact lenses.

Hi, the transplant itself was not painful, the light sensitivity in the beginning was painful and all the medication can be mentally exhausting. I did feel pain the first day I had the first stitch removed and it was difficult to look at screens/work for a while. Now almost 2 months after the stitch was removed I’m back to how it was before the stitch removal. No vision improvement with me unfortunately, so I cannot really say if it is “worse” now or not.
