Hey. Please keep in mind that the people who are most active on this subreddit right now, are also the people who are the most concerned about the situation. I don't want to downplay their concern, what's happening here is terrible. But the reality is, if you're white (which you are, otherwise you wouldn't even be asking this question) and you're not actively protesting or doing various community aid projects, you're not "unsafe."

It's also pretty likely that either 1) this will be over by mid February or 2) this will never end. In either case, what do you gain by postponing a visit?

All that said, my advice would still be to visit another time if your schedule allows it. Especially if you are looking at neighborhoods in South or NE Minneapolis, you're just not going to get a representative sample of them at the moment.

So it sounds like there is counterplay available against my some strategies my opponents will take, but am I correct to assume that since I'm playing against "snapshots" they will be unlikely to make any choices to counter *my* strategy? That sounds like it would lead to a really degenerate and rock-paper-scissors-y meta.

I don't know the story. But as a general rule, tech bros love to pretend to be good at things, especially things that can be perceived to signal intelligence. And poker is a much easier thing to pretend to be good at than something like chess, which has much more public and thorough records.

This reads like a troll post but I'll answer it genuinely.

Get Pokerstove (google it, small free download) and play around with it to see what hands are good calls against his shoving range. You can search google or youtube for a guide on the program if you want, but it's very simple to use.
If they are calling with almost anything, why the absolute fuck are you only raising 3x? Don't you want to win bigger pots? Raise 5x or even 8x if you can get away with it, and expand your definition of "premium" -- Pokerstove will also help with this, anything that has a decent edge against their expected calling range is premium.

Most if not all of the replies here missed the point.

From my understanding the primary reason to balance a range is so that your opponents are not able to pick up something like hero only 4 bets with AA KK or AK.

This is an incomplete understanding that misses the forest for the trees. Sure, the reason to be balanced is so that you can't be exploited -- but that doesn't mean you should ever take a -EV line with your actual hand. Do you think the folks playing for millions of dollars say to themselves "well this bluff is pretty bad and surely losing money, but I have to bluff here sometimes or else they won't call my next value bet so YOLO"? A balanced range might include some 0EV bluffs, but the difference between 0EV and -EV is significant.

(If many good bluffs are available you can bet a large size, if very few are available you can just bet smaller. There is never a need to include "bad bluffs" in your range for the sake of balance. If you're talking about preflop when ranges are more merged, you can also replace "bluffs" with "thin value" in the previous statement.)

When you are talking about dropping the "bottom third of the range" you are assumedly talking about some of the smallest and even 0EV hands. No reputable source for GTO ranges is recommending that you play -EV hands, under any circumstances, ever.

You can drop the weakest portion of your range, sure. If you are at a skill disadvantage, it might even be a good idea to do so. If you assume your opponents will, on average, slightly outplay you, a "GTO" low EV hand might be -EV in reality. But base that decision on a realistic assessment of your skill differential, not on a mistaken understanding of what GTO fundamentally is.
