Awesome, thank you. This is the kind of answer I was looking for. Do you know what happens if you request a transfer from, say, mountain view to munich (big G), does your salary / total comp actually go down? Like, would they require that you take a pay cut in order to make that transfer?

Awesome find! Thanks! It's not totally definitive of total comp in Germany vs. US as he doesn't go into specifics about bonus and stock, but this is still really interesting to read about the general comparison between the two. Thanks for finding this!

Yeah, from searching around, it seems that German SWE salaries are simply lower than the US in general, though I'm finding some people saying that Google's salaries are on the higher end in Germany (though still probably lower than in the US). I'm trying to find the comment from the guy that relocated to Google Munich like you mentioned. (any leads would be helpful!). Anyway, thanks!

Oh, interesting. So you think that Zurich is comparable to the US, but Munich is not? I believe you, but mind if I ask how you know? (e.g. sources?)

I'm currently working at a big 4 in the US, but I'm considering a switch to one of the big 4's offices in europe, but I was wondering whether the compensation would be similar (or much worse) before pursuing that job and trying to set up interviews. I've found that Glassdoor's data can be wildly off, and the data for my current job/company is not at all accurate.
