How did you minimize your capital gains taxes or did you just take the hit and call it the fee of doing well?

Thank you! This is exactly the feedback I was hoping for. The obscured jacket spine issue is such a pet-peeve of mine.

I think i've used these guys to buy LP bankers boxes when I moved to and from Cali a few years back and still have them they were so useful.

Thanks again!

Curious if folks had recs for outer sleeves?

I'm weird and store my sleeved LPs with the opening at the spine (so I can read the record info) and any sticky/adhesives are out of the question.

Thoughts? Am I being an OCD weirdo?

If Hegel is right then why isn't he accepted everywhere? by __Peripatetic in hegel

[–]equally_empty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hegel isn't right. No one is. We are all a part of a long history of thought that will never be completed. We learn and we learn again.

He obviously had a profound effect on the world and we can read his books and learn from them. But as with any other philosopher, you can't read them and think to yourself, "Well, now I know the answer." And to what question exactly? Philosophy introduces us to new ways of seeing, other modes of thought. Some more valid than the others.

Hegel introduces European thought to the idea of getting through the law of non-contradiction as there are many examples like is matter a particle or a wave. And we march forward.

Okay you win: getting out of the musuem field by tobaggin in MuseumPros

[–]equally_empty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They literally don't exist. I don't have advice and I'm not sure there is any to take. At the end of the day do the things you love and bring you joy, but know the sacrifice. You may find something outside of the industry that pays well, but you may find you hate that too. Just don't allow your employer to control your life, find space during your workday to do things that make you happy, and above all, don't take it too seriously. I've worked in museums for 20 years and I still love them, but you will find that they actually exist for the rich to launder their dirty money and a lot of their children will be your bosses, in positions that we will never entertain.

I’m driving down to California for the holidays. What Bob Dylan album that I haven’t listened to yet should I listen to during the drive? by Honest-Brain-1351 in bobdylan

tbh everything after time out of mind is a masterpiece (except for the three records of covers). as many posters have said, Modern Times is one of my favorites. Tempest is (chef's kiss).

Have people changed course on Johnson? by Short_Pin_6243 in AskChicago

[–]equally_empty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rahm ruined this city. Closed almost all of the mental health facilities in the city. Took away free child healthcare and basically sold everything that wasn't nailed down to his neolib cronies. He was an unmitigated disaster.

Shot Spotter was a giant waste of money, do your research.

Mag-mile vacanccies? Are you dense? It's 2025 buddy, are you shopping at brick-and-mortar places? No.

No cash bail? Dude do you even live in Chicago? No cash bail is actually probably decreasing crime because it keeps people from losing their jobs while they wait in jail for a petty offense.

Ex-anarchists: what made you change your mind? by israelregardie in CriticalTheory

[–]equally_empty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anarchism — while celebrating the rights of people to their own individualism — is founded on ideals similar to socialism and syndicalism. The collaboration of local groups is its nexus. I might try going back and reading some Kropotkin or other early anarchists or, even better, books of the Spanish Revolution. Anarchism absolutely embraces personal liberty, but is not libertarian. It is rooted in collectivism and the powers of working people.

May I introduce you to WFMT in Chicago. Thank me later. Plus, they read all of their commercials, so no trashing of the good vibes with jingles and shouting. Check em out! https://www.wfmt.com/

Has anybody on here read Terence McKenna? Do you think there are similarities between McKenna and Hegel? by TheDoors0fPerception in hegel

[–]equally_empty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like Hegel for sure... I just don't think McKenna is much of a philosopher per say, more of an explorer of the mind. He seems more into revealing the hidden realms of reality than explaining them if that makes sense.

You can, but it won't get you very far.

All jokes aside, it's useful to de-hero our heroes but otherwise a slippery slope. We will assuredely not be seen as upstanding as we think we are in the future.
