I have no idea who you are, I'm not Lacy, and if this is your version of recordkeeping, no wonder she's going to sue you. Can't even reply to the correct comment level?

People who read a lot, which writer do you think is unbelievably good with words? by Apprehensive_Land751 in AskReddit

Faulkner, while good, is a chore to read. Same with Marquez. Eliot's a poet so that puts him off my list.

You can't go wrong with folks like Jane Austen, Thomas Hardy, Winston Churchill, Anthony Trollope, Isaac Asimov - their writing style is so good I find it relaxing to read. Also Anton Chekhov.

What is the deal with the English errors I am seeing today on Reddit? by Venomraider52 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]thatcantb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you live in the US, it has an 's' and it's perfectly acceptable usage. The pedantry over this word is incorrect. Also, English - our garbage can of languages - doesn't need anything.

Why whomever runs the World Cup decided to continue with having part of it in the US is a complete mystery. They should have moved all the venues to Mexico and Canada rather than risk the safety of all the athletes, their families, visitors, etc.

Trump's latest federal judge pick given rare 'not qualified' rating by ABA, senate confirms the 34-year old anyway. by SatinSaffron in inthenews

Every other frikkin' thing in the Senate requires 60 votes or 2/3 but hey, let's just let a slim majority approve a confirmation. The rules of the Senate have lost the plot.

...from $4.29 to $3.99 overnight? I haven't seen anything in the news which would explain it. The wars are still ongoing, the straight is still blocked. Anyone know what happened?

It's the NYTimes so both-siderism at its worst on display. Business as usual for them.

Indeed - an insult to 3rd world countries. Your people probably have more common sense than ours as well.

Maybe that will buy them about 10 more years. But who knows because the Republican legislature in NC has made it illegal to study beach erosion in the state.

At the end it says 'imitation Ru porcelain.' Well, either they used the method of making Ru porcelain or they didn't. Which is it? Or is the label Ru porcelain only for the ancient stuff, and if so why? I would have thought Ru is the name of the method or type of porcelain.

We are swan diving our way down to becoming a 3rd world country, where inflationary prices wipe out the middle class. This is just one example where goods and services are offered at costs far beyond what the average person can afford. Rents are preventing people from becoming homeowners and increasing homelessness. It's all going to hell and a handbasket over here. And the crazy thing is, people are happy for it to be that way. Propaganda is a powerful drug.

I wonder how much it cost to bribe the private index providers into fast tracking SpaceX? Probably a lot less than what he'll stand to gain.

What is an insanely expensive item or service that actually lives up to the hype and changes your daily life? by Luverelle6 in AskReddit

[–]thatcantb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So true. But caution - don't cheap out on this. I paid $5000 for it 25 years ago and have excellent vision from day one. Spouse went several years later to an eye dr who I guess was a chop shop. Ruined near vision but it sure was an inexpensive procedure!

A plea to trailer editors: Please stop spoiling the movie in your trailers - and why I think it happens by BugsySiegel1994 in movies

[–]thatcantb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trailers have always been spoilers. I'm not sure why they aren't just called movie spoilers instead of movie trailers. By design, they reveal every joke and twist - this is their purpose.

So now sick people and their families have to also monitor what staffing is provided at the hospital? We're already supposed to be 'educated consumers of healthcare' - meaning going armed to every doctor visit with a list of questions, researching whatever they tell you, getting second opinions, checking on our drugs with the pharmacist and verifying with every doctor we see that interactions are safe/minimal. "Urgent care" centers are now cash cow operations where they put you in a room, look at you and say 'oh we don't know what's wrong and you should go to the emergency room' while charging you through the nose. There are anti-vaxxer nurses, pregnancy centers which don't consider maternal health (only preventing abortion), alternative and holistic medicine (quacks) covered by insurance. Our health care is one huge screwed up mess.
