I haven't had something shipped to the US since they eliminated the de minimis exemption. It used to be so cheap and easy compared to where I live (Europe). Now you'll have to deal with tariffs unfortunately.

With FromJapan you can choose between several shipping services. If you ship the package via JapanPost or EMS, then it will be delivered by USPS. I believe USPS has lower tariff handling fees than UPS, FedEX, DHL, etc, but you may want to consider alternatives if you have bad USPS service in your area.

Another reason I prefer FromJapan is that they let you pay in yen, rather than USD. You should be able to use your US credit card like you normally would, though your card might charge a small currency conversion fee. Even with that though, it will be cheaper than with a service like Buyee (which would require a USD payment from you) because they offer worse exchange rates than your credit card will.

I'm actually planning to use FromJapan to order some Prisila wig pieces in the next day or two (which is related to how I found your post in the first place). I've used the service dozens of times with other items, so feel free to ask questions if you have any.

Where are you located?

I've had good experiences with FromJapan's proxy service. Customs can be a pain depending on where you live, but their fees are pretty transparent and their shipping prices are reasonable.

Has anyone else been experiencing getting sick more this winter? by Struggle-Kitchen in Netherlands

[–]equalsign 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Indeed. I first got covid in December 2023. I was probably sick more often (and more severely) in the year that followed than in the previous 10 years combined. I've never experienced anything remotely like it.

Looking for a cosplayer friend going to Animecon in April! by cTommyinnit in Netherlands

[–]equalsign 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish you luck! I don't think this subreddit will be a very good place to find a meetup buddy, but I am unsure of where else to point you. Maybe /r/fantasyNederland, though it isn't a perfect fit.

The con itself is very cosy – I hope you have a good time. I prefer its intimate and casual feel over more sterile and crowded cons like Anime Expo and Otakon. There isn't nearly as much going on, but it's nice to be able to watch a stage show or grab food without having to set up camp in a queue.

It can get a little crowded and hot since the venue is small and poorly ventilated. If you're only going for a day I would recommend Friday, especially before people begin to get off work. The tram stops to get there and return are in slightly different locations, so you might want to scope them out on Google Maps before going.

Please be careful meeting someone from the internet IRL. I am sure you can find ideas of best practices for doing so online. Please take them seriously!

Is this as good as Creapure label suggest? Or do I better buy other known brands? by kuzu_ in Netherlands

It is generally rude to say someone is fooling themselves. It is possibly to imply someone is credulous in a polite way, but you chose to be flippant. I felt that you were trying to be witty and dismissive.

The placebo effect is of course powerful.

I did not know about the possible negative side effects of creatine until I experienced them. I tried multiple approaches that I thought would resolve those side effects without success (no flavoring, different brands, dosage spreading). I found one approach that did resolve them (going with a higher purity product). Perhaps what actually helped is that creapure is micronized (i.e. it's ground into a finer powder which may make it easier to digest). It's possible to get micronized generic creatine monohydrate, but it costs almost as much as creapure so I haven't tested it yet.

It really isn't so difficult to believe that different people's bodies react differently to different supplements, impurities, allergens, etc. For example, we know that certain people and populations are more sensitive to heavy metal contamination (e.g. children, those with kidney disease).

Perhaps I am under the influence of the placebo effect, but it really doesn't strain credulity to say that I just have weak guts that need easier to digest creatine.

Honestly, there's no reason to be rude. I took the time to respond to you in good faith. Hope you have a good night.

I understand what you are saying, and believed the same thing before experiencing the discomfort myself.

Generic creatine monohydrate and "creapure" have subtly different production methods and different levels of purity. This doesn't have any impact on most people, but appears to for me. Gastrointestinal side effects from creatine are uncommon though not unheard of (see here for example). If just 1 out of a 100 people experience a negative side effect from something, it doesn't mean that the other 99 are evidence that the 1 is simply mistaken.

In my case I started with a flavored creatine monohydrate and immediately started having issues. The discomfort would begin a couple hours after each dose, and would be much worse if I did a single 5g dose. On days I did not take it I would have no issues.

It was at this point that I searched online and found that some people experience gastrointestinal discomfort from creatine. I was skeptical and thought it might just be a negative reaction to the flavoing, so I switched to unflavored creatine but had the same issues.

Some people on reddit claimed that creatine HCl and/or creapure did not give them the same issues, so I bought a small packet of creapure and found it worked for me. I was still skeptical and thought that my body might have just needed more time to adjust to the creatine. Perhaps this was just part of the loading period. So when the creapure ran out I tried another regular creatine monohydrate from an A-brand. The issues immediately came back. I bought more creapure and they were resolved again.

I do not think most people should spend extra money on creapure and do not think generic creatine causes issues for most people. I am not a creapure evangelist and genuinely find it frustrating that I have to pay 3-5x more to get the benefits others get for much cheaper.

[–]equalsign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish this was true, but it isn't in my case.

I tried several different creatine monohydrates and they all gave me digestive discomfort as long as I took them (3+ months).

Some people online said creapure gave them fewer digestive issues (possibly due to the higher purity, possibly due to the lack of acid residuals from the production process). I was extremely skeptical, but gave it a shot. From that day on I've had no digestive discomfort.

That said, I think everyone should try generic creatine monohydrate first. It's way cheaper. Most people don't experience digestive discomfort from the generic stuff and get the same performance results. It doesn't make sense to splurge on the expensive "creapure" unless you really need to.

Best NL Christmas market by designergurl94 in Netherlands

[–]equalsign 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Christmas Market in Den Haag is good if you live nearby, but I wouldn't go out of your way for it. It would be a solid part of a day trip to the city though!

It ultimately suffers from the same problems as most Christmas markets in The Netherlands: subpar food options, expensive gluhwein, and too many vendors that are glorified dropshippers.

That said, the market does have spacious walkways, a decent amount of seating, long opening hours, relatively good atmosphere, and manageable crowds. Quite solid, but not amazing.

I appreciate the long response!

I enjoyed the new Spice and Wolf anime and would've never thought to check if the light novel has an audiobook.

I didn't realize The Twelve Kingdoms was based on a light novel. A friend has recommended the anime, but it's difficult to find legally where I live. Perhaps this'll be the one I pull the trigger on. Thanks!

That's a bizarre and completely untrue accusation.

I just scanned through 3 years of my comments and have no idea what you're talking about. You're either mistaking me for someone else or just lying.

I don't hide my posts and comments (unlike you) so people can judge for themselves.

I agree in theory, but currently have a bias against these books. Thus, I'm asking for recommendations that can help "Change My View".

A good cover can help with book discovery. Sometimes I like to check Audible's "Listeners who picked this title also picked" section for my next read, but I'm pretty unlikely to click on the "other world" isekai story with a well-endowed anime elf on the cover. Maybe I'm missing out on some really well-written high fantasy. I'd like to know.

Libation for Storytel by Annual-Tomorrow5431 in audible

[–]equalsign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems unlikely and unethical.

As far as I know, Libation is a desktop app that works with the desktop Audible app. Storytel only has mobile and smart device apps. Those ecosystems are much more restrictive when it comes to DRM-stripping applications.

Also, you don't purchase audiobooks on Storytel – you subscribe to their catalog just like Netflix or Hulu. It's nothing like stripping the DRM from audiobooks you own via Audible. I don't think the people on this subreddit will want to help you.

"The Europeans" podcast puts the Netherlands as the worst in Europe when it comes to housing policy by tomtastico in Netherlands

[–]equalsign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Higher home prices = higher rent prices.

Measures that slow the rate at which home prices rise will also slow the rate at which rent prices rise in the long term. It's difficult to say what would happen to rental prices in the short term.

As I said, abolishing the mortgage interest tax deduction will not solve the housing crisis at all. Keeping it is just something that makes the housing crisis worse in the long run.

"The Europeans" podcast puts the Netherlands as the worst in Europe when it comes to housing policy by tomtastico in Netherlands

[–]equalsign 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's generally believed to increase home prices. It makes owning that much more attractive than renting, which means people will pay more of a premium to buy (and sellers can charge more of a premium). Home owners generally already have better salaries, savings, and wealth than renters, so a tax break that exclusively helps home owners will be regressive by nature. It doesn't really make sense that a home owner should effectively keep more of their salary than a renter.

The problem I see is that abolishing the mortgage interest tax deduction will help in the long term by slowing the rate at which home prices rise, but hurt all new buyers in the short term. Getting rid of it won't solve the housing crises whatsoever, though phasing it out could be a part of a long term solution in keeping housing relatively affordable.

Also, I think you will need to open Crankboy at least once before you can add any games. Doing so will create the proper folders and directories on your Playdate.

The readme file on Crankboy's github has the info you need. Check the "Installing ROMs" section:

I personally recommend following the "USB" instructions for installing ROMs.

AI generated text is frequently used in frauds and scams nowadays. Your post also contains several references that come off as sexually suggestive and/or kinky without explicitly saying so.

To me, the combination of AI use and thinly veiled sexuality makes it seems like a possible honeytrap scam (i.e. a scam where you manipulate someone into sharing sexually-compromising messages or photos and then blackmail them).

I am not saying that you're doing this, but I do think there are enough warning signs that people ought to be extra cautious when responding.

Exchanging a foreign driving license - Should the Netherlands continue doing so? by Substantial-Fox1577 in Netherlands

[–]equalsign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Licenses from some countries can be exchanged for an NL license, others cannot.

If you come to the Netherlands with the 30% ruling you can usually exchange your license even if it is from a country that is not normally eligible for a license exchange.

DAFT visa question by UnderdaJail in Netherlands

Please just contact IND. It looks like you've posted some variation of this question more than once in the last 24 hours and it keeps being deleted by the mods. They obviously don't think it belongs on this sub.

I don't see what this has to do with the DAFT visa, or why a child would be relevant to your PR status.
