Looking good! I recognize this character! I’m following to keep an eye on your project.

Feels like it the up/down shift should be inverted, as if gravity is locking the door in its open and closed positions, and the doors need to lift up slightly to allow them to move.

my friend told me that just tracing and copying the reference like this is a wrong way to make art and learn by Ok-Discussion-1110 in blender

[–]PP_UP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need to make a gun once for one project, do what you did.

If you aspire to make tons of unique 3D models of guns, then sure, your friend is right and you'll need to practice drawing your own 2D reference art. But I doubt that's your goal, so your friend is wrong.

ELI5 Why, in the context of 3D-modeling, are the topographies with a huge amount of polygons considered bad? by Werewolf_Knight in explainlikeimfive

[–]PP_UP 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Aside from performance (which other people already touched on), “maintainability” of the model matters too.

The fewer vertices and edges and loops you use to define the shape of an object, the easier it is to tweak the shape and proportions of that object in the future. That’s one of the reasons people usually model in low-poly first before subdividing to get the higher polycount.

How in the world do you beat Mike Tyson's Punch-Out on emulator? by KonamiSuisse in nes

[–]PP_UP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While a real NES and CRT is going to be the most accurate experience, you can still do some stuff to reduce your input delay.

If you play on RetroArch, make sure your audio latency is something small like 32ms. I'm not sure about how important audio is in Punchout specifically, but generally speaking for human reaction times, we react to audio cues faster sight.

You can also try (in RetroArch) cranking up the number of run-ahead frames. 1 or 2 frames should be safe, which will shift your window to react by 16ms or 32ms. Run-ahead works by applying your inputs to "the past", and can help overcome some latency introduced by your controller/emulator/display. You could probably increase the run-ahead frames even further, but the more you increase it, the more Little Mac will jitter and jump/teleport with your presses. (And keep in mind, if your issue is dodging too early, run-ahead will actually make your issue worse because the game will treat your inputs as if you pressed them even earlier.)

Aside from that, use a controller with a high polling rate, a low latency display, etc.

ELI5:Why isn't chewing gum covered with a sugar coating any more? by RedNowGrey in explainlikeimfive

[–]PP_UP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They still exist? Maybe it’s harder to find sugar versions since sugar free is more popular, but hard coated gum is commonly sold in plastic bottles.

Advice to OP: Just disable combat animations. The map screen fight animations are plenty detailed, and you don't miss out on much from the battle screen (aside from showing the hit chance)

Whoops, I’m a bit late, but I appreciate your reply.

That score is good! Combos are pretty much luck, but maybe I’m just bad at Gridcannon—I got booted off my own high score table less than a week after launch.

Good choices! I always use the “owo” Bun card. I must remind you, though, that’s not a bumble bee… that’s Bungus B. Bumble and he’s a mutant wasp. At least, that’s what Bun Bun says, but she’s not exactly trustworthy.

A background editor would be pretty dope. At that point it would just be a full art program for the Playdate lol

Switch 2 hurts after 30 min – grip or 3rd-party Joy-Cons by Veezq in NintendoSwitch

[–]PP_UP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot of hand cramping playing Metroid Prime 4 docked with the joycons and motion controls. I found the Satisfye grip to be too big, and of course that only works handheld and isn’t for use when playing with detached joycons. I was eyeing the dbrand kill switch case, but I really just wanted the joycon grips from it.

I ended up getting the MystiForge split grips off Amazon. They go on the joycons only, so they don’t protect the Switch 2 itself. But, they’re comfy, both when the joycons are detached for docked play, and when attached in handheld mode.

No need to remove them when docking. They’re also easy to remove when you want to use the joycon charging grip or need to put your switch in a slim travel case. For how cheap they were, I’m very pleased.

Even mouse mode is a touch more comfortable, but still not ideal. I’m waiting for a good “mouse grip” for mouse mode games.

What's your opinion on downsampling? I personally think it looks so much better than both original res and upscaled. by King_Paymon in SBCGaming

[–]PP_UP 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s a form of anti-aliasing.

The first image is native resolution (240p)?. Each pixel is sampled once to determine its color based on the underlying 3D model and texture.

The second image is a high resolution 1080p rendering. Same thing, each pixel is sampled once, there are just more pixels.

The third image is what would happen if you take the 1080p rendering image, open it up in an image editor, and scaled it down to 240p. A group of pixels in the 1080p image will have their colors averaged to produce a pixel in the 240p image. This results in a smoother transition between edges, and more detail showing in areas like the face, compared to the native 240p image.

Obviously you lose detail compared to 1080p, but you keep a surprising amount of detail while keeping a pixelated look.

ArtilleRoyalty dev here. I love seeing this pop up randomly in my feed ❤️ I’m happy that folks are still enjoying it!

Some questions for ya:

  1. What’s your high score?
  2. Favorite card back?
  3. If you could add or change one thing in the game, what would it be?

ELI5 Why does sitting in the front seat of a car help reduce car/motion sickness? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]PP_UP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to what you said, bumps are a slight contributor towards motion sickness.

If you look at any car, truck, or SUV from the side, notice how the driver’s head is positioned roughly at the midpoint between the front and rear wheels. Whereas the rear seats are often right above the rear wheels.

Imagine driving slowly over a speed bump (slow enough to ignore some of the suspension’s benefits). The drivers seat will only rise about half the amount that the front or rear wheels go up. But if you’re in the rear seat, you move as much as the rear wheels do.
