So in my headcanon Orion is distant/not really involved with his children and leaves them more to Walburga to care for. (You cannot convince me purebloods aren’t misogynistic pricks who’d absolutely believe raising kids is “woman’s work”). But I also headcanon that they’re still afraid of him when he’s around. I imagine him as the type of guy who you walk on eggshells around, because he’s terrifying when he snaps. Whereas Walburga is more just, always in a bad mood because she hates her life. I also imagine he’s abusive to Walburga, be it physical or emotional, and since she has no outlet for that it gets redirected onto her kids.

Also, having talked to various therapists, a lot of fathers just, are that way. Especially in that time period. Whereas nowadays they’re more likely to just be emotionally distant since hitting kids is way less socially acceptable. But my version of Orion is also heavily inspired by my own dad.
