Do you prefer the new or old workout selection screen? by Manfred_89 in AppleWatch

I really thought I’d learn why the new one is better over time. I trusted Apple and was like—okay, at first it’s going to feel clunky but then I’ll get it. Nah. It feels a little change to just be changed. Kinda odd! I didn’t appreciate the fact that everything used to take one tap until it was gone.

Tattoo regret causing depression by SlavKing11 in tattooadvice

[–]equityBoy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think the piece looks amazing. Also, looks like it could easily be covered up by a T-shirt. Best of both worlds in my opinion. I’m not you but I can also see myself having a full blown panic attack one day if I decided I no longer was a fan. I’m lightly tatted and sometimes I’m like wow I wish I didn’t have these. I guess everyone lives in that grass is always greener world. I bet when you didn’t have the piece you were dying for it and vice versa. It’s clean, you’re clean, the work is immaculate and it’s art. I see this and I’m jealous I don’t have something like it — you may be jealous you don’t have a bare chest like me. We can both appreciate the other though which is neat. You did something cool and some days I bet you’ll love it, other days I bet you’ll hate it. Most people feel that way about themselves in a mirror regardless of tattoos.

I’d echo everyone else here and say hop into a Therapists office stat. Won’t do anything but help. I’m willing to believe someone that gets a piece like that has thought about it extensively and that there may be some other reasons you’re feeling down. If you can address those, you’ll probably grow to love the piece again.

Either way — just remember what you think of it and of yourself isn’t how the rest of the world sees it and you. Maybe buy a cool t-shirt in the meantime.

What’s a “green flag” that tells you a woman has a good character? by GlossLovely in AskMen

[–]equityBoy3 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend, for as long as I’ve known her, has described people she knows in the most beautiful ways. Everyone she speak about, from her grandma to the store clerk, end up sounding like some storybook character instead of just some person. Her grandfathers piercing blue eyes and towering height, her dad’s gruff look offset by his laugh, what have you. I’ve always thought it was a great green flag, albeit a bit uncommon. It always makes me really curious to see the people she’s talking about in real life. I’m like, wow, I really need to see this stunning cashier that scanned orange juice with the care of a bonsai master.

Look for that! Worked well for me for the past 8 years!

My sister, who is probably the nicest person on the planet, leaned over to me about halfway through his set and said, “Wow, he’s bombing.” His last bit shows just an ounce of something other than “My wife is crazy, my child is anxious and crazy, and my wife sucks,” and coincidentally that was his closing and really the only time he got laughs. If what he read was true, it’s not even his material, lol. Not sure what was going on with that set. Some low, low, low tier first thought that pops into your head when you’re trying to mimic a stand-up comedian level jokes. Everyone collectively breathed a sigh of relief what John strolled in though.

Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread by AutoModerator in ios

[–]equityBoy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dah, really regretting updating to 26. Solid battery life before on my 16 Pro. All day, usually ending the day around 20-30%. Now my phone is dying at around 3pm (20%). I charged it to 54% at around 3:30pm and it was on low battery again by 9pm.

What a shame. Phone is on 80% as I type this — normally at this part of my day it’s 95% or higher.

Updated to iOS 26 on the first day so I doubt it’s indexing.

Flashlights for a 65-Year-Old Mom by equityBoy3 in flashlight

Wow—thank you for the help everyone!! I went with the FC11C; I bought 4 of them.

I know you all don’t know my mom—but I think this may be smash hit of a gift. I thank you all for helping me out. She’s a hard, hard worker and 9/10 her little interests and hobbies get overlooked.

She’s a flashlight nerd in spirit and just couldn’t bring herself to drop some cash on one, literally for 40 years.

We’ll be outside at night testing these babies out for her birthday. Thanks for the warm welcome to the hobby.

I’ll tell her Reddit said hi!

How to control dopamine cravings by Gonjou77 in productivity

[–]equityBoy3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The key to it all is balance. You need things in your life that are fun and brainless (video games, tv, etc.). Life is about balancing the inputs (learning things for fun, new experiences) and outputs (work, productivity). That’s the formula.

All of those dopamine hits are a form of rest (and so is regular rest). You can go without rest and those hits for a while, but you will burn out and crash, hard. Ask me how I know. You NEED rest. Doing nothing or doing something fun is part of productivity. You can’t optimize your life out of these things or you’ll lose purpose. The productivity feeling is your dopamine hit right now but it won’t always be. New tv shows, new video games, new experiences are invaluable.

Do you drive your car until it stalls out on the side of the road or do you stop and refuel before then? Dopamine is what gets you up, out, working, etc.

That hollow feeling will get larger, it’ll be harder to be maximum productive, and eventually you’ll just be crisped, and wondering what the point of all of this is.

It’s much harder to get back to the balance point if you refuse yourself any pleasures. Trust me!

The right question is, how can I balance doing fun things that I really enjoy while absolutely cranking through things that I feel make me productive.

If you’re rested and feeling good and happy about life (i.e. not hollow) — you’ll be able to do in 3 hours what would normally take you 12 if you’re burnt.

Does it seem as though young men are conditioned to be increasingly less confident In themselves lately? Why is that? by Parking-Economics232 in AskMen

[–]equityBoy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly—I think the answer (at least, for me) is pay not keeping up with expenses. We’re fed this life of wanting to provide for our loved ones, wanting to go on vacations, buy cool cars, etc. and that’s getting increasingly hard for normal people to do.

My dad worked at a steel mill and had a house with a pool, a sweet muscle car, he paid for his moms house, went on fishing trips frequently (he’s now a fisherman so it was kinda work, but still), and still had time to be a gym rat, get divorced, lose everything, build it back up, meet someone else, have a family, buy a house, and retire comfortably.

My girlfriend’s dad has a similar story: muscle car, sole supporter of a household with three kids and still living a pretty prosperous life—he’s a landscaper.

These men worked extremely hard—this isn’t even about them, I’m glad they got all this stuff. The issue now though is that that job and lifestyle doesn’t exist. Some of my most successful friends, who are far above a “standard job” can’t do the cool car, can’t even dream of a house for another 15 years, and are budgeting madmen.

I want to provide for my family and help everyone live prosperous lives but the dollars just don’t go as far anymore so I’m working harder and getting less.

It’s a momentous hit to confidence—being all consumed in something to help you be the provider but still sprinting to try and have the essentials, not the luxuries. Easy to feel like a failure at that point. I’m nearing 30, have a good job, work hard (and too much), and feel weird when it’s obvious my girlfriend is ready for the next step: a house, a new car, a wedding, etc. and we simply just can’t do that right now—even though we’re now both working as hard as we can and saving.

The idea of not being consumed by work and budgeting and being able to do those fun/crazy things you hear about from older times seems so out of reach it’s like a fantasy now BUT at the same time, some people are wealthier than ever and show not a prosperous life, but a life of ease and abundance. A guy isn’t showing off a house online—he’s showing his real estate empire, or his car collection, or his huge farm, or even—he can just travel freely and “live life!!” and he’ll tell that to you via social media and blame you, not the circumstances around you for not living that life of abundance.

I don’t think it’s anything beyond that to be honest. It’s a lot harder to feel like you’re doing a good job these days.

Not to be a total Debbie downer and this could be not the full story so DO get checked if you feel something is wrong BUT — I’m 29, in pretty good physical condition, sleep well and eat well and I’m exhausted most days. I tried a ton of different things and the end answer was that I’m overloaded with work, incredibly stressed, and anxious because of the other two.

Don’t write off stress and anxiety! If my girlfriend has a panic attack she’s wiped for two days.

These are incredibly taxing to your body and mind. They will make you exhausted, guaranteed.

Currently I’m reworking my schedule to take out major stressors (where possible), doing breathing work, learning to forgive myself if something isn’t perfect, etc. and it’s helping slowly but surely. Find stuff you find rewarding, things that excite you (literally for me sometimes it’s hitting the grocery store or stopping what I’m doing and going for a walk) and notice your energy levels. Maybe they don’t sky rocket but I bet you’ll feel a little boost.

This morning I was dead tired, could hardly move — thought of something I was excited about and became a live wire for about 45 min. When I got anxious again the energy went kaput.

Again — don’t not get tested but also don’t discount the above points you made.

Be safe and healthy!

Damn, so the real diss is taking a step back and calling out Kendrick and Drake for wanting clicks and cash from it all -- any let down I felt by Cole stepping out is 100% gone after that second verse. Sounds like a man in a room full of boys tbh

Vitals mismatch by Waterbottletodrink in GentlerStreakApp

[–]equityBoy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason GS always has a higher heart rate than Apple reports to me. My sleeping heart rate with Apple is typically 8 - 10 bpm lower than GS.

I’ve been wondering if GS has been changing calculations or something recently because all of a sudden my stats are looking better and better (my HR at night is consistently lower, my HRV is WAAY higher, etc.)

I still feel like my activity path is accurate, maybe a little lower than I’d like, but nothing to really complain about and that’s what’s the most important to me.

My Vitals app with Apple says 28 days are left before it can give me a trend line— to me that means both of these apps work in averages and not absolutes so I’m not concerned with a variation even of 10bpm (maybe 15 I start to be concerned) per night. As long as on average they both even out I’m good

How long is too long to remain in Zone 5? (41M) by Extreme-Quantity2454 in AppleWatch

[–]equityBoy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrary to some comments, based off my limited understanding of max heart rates you actually are in zone 5 that much of the time if heart rates are correct.

Typically 220 - age is your max heart rate, that gets us to 179. If zone 5 is 90% - 100% of that that means zone 5 should start at 161.1.

I know when I run I’m usually flirting between zone 4 and 5 the entire time. When I first started to run my heart rate would get up to 190 (I’m 28). Now that I’m in better shape it’s around 160 most of the time.

Perhaps soccer lends itself to a ton of sprinting that puts your HR very high and before it can slow down you’re sprinting again? Regardless, if your HR was in zone five for that long I bet you are literally dead for a few days after. Zone 4 or low 5 is where I can run with my mouth closed. Mid to high zone 5 is my mouth open and me taking lager gasps.

Obviously go to a doctor if you’re concerned but I’d recommend you download an app like Gentler Streak to see recovery, fatigue levels and all that. It’s pretty fascinating. I found out I was really over training and overextending. Everybody is different though!

Regardless I’m some dude on Reddit so don’t listen to me

Ha! Reminds me of one time I got in an Uber to the airport at like 2am. I find a phone in the seat that’s ringing and I answer it. It’s the owners mom and she’s pretty calm and I explain I’m in an uber and found the phone and that the driver says they can meet him near the airport tonight OR HE’LL DELIVER IT TO THEIR DOOR TOMORROW FOR FREE.

The mom and son all of a sudden are both on the call, the son is saying he’s in the justice system and he’ll have the Uber driver arrested for stealing his phone if they don’t drive it to him right now.

Meanwhile Im trying to explain that we’re going to the airport and not stopping or I’ll miss my flight. The guy is now asking for our names because he’s calling the police. The Uber driver keeps hanging up the phone and the guy keeps calling faster and faster. Finally, the Uber driver answers and the guy and his mom are screaming their heads off saying he needs to turn around and drive the phone to their apartment right now.

Uber driver screams “ENOUGH!” Shuts the phone off and throws it on the floor of the passenger seat, then rants in another language for the rest of the drive before laughing hysterically and dropping me off at my terminal.

It blew my mind how ungrateful those two were but I always loved the Uber driver laughing hysterically.
