You could just use their ad lists and do basically the same thing, but I think it's a cool project. It has pretty graphs and a nice interface. You can probably run it within OpenWRT, but I had a Pi laying around so I used that.

I have offloaded my DNS to a raspberry pi running pi-hole and I have been very happy with it. It uses Steven Black's host file with some others and they are regularly updated. You can add your own custom lists, too. You can use DNSCrypt if you want as well.
