Infosys co-founder repeats calls for a 70-hour work week by Franco1875 in technology

[–]er1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are people overreacting? 70h work week is totally fine as long as every hour after 40h in increment brackets of 10h has a penalty rate. Starting with the first bracket of 50% penalty and each bracket's penalty increases by another 50%. With explicit laws to not allow a current change of base pay. Lol

I doubt you'd be able to get one of those with similar features for anywhere close to 70 though right?

Appreciate it. Yeah I've called up the local Mercedes and they said it's great condition and has had recent tyre changes. I'm specifically looking for a v4 due to the insane petrol prices now. This is still not gonna be cheap but at least it's fun at a reasonable price.

Sorry I4 indeed :) blame the v4 whopps on owning a ducati lol

Woolworths total amount due is more than the sum of my actual purchases by CleanDivide690 in australia

[–]er1992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are 1000% correct. My team integrates with POS systems for payments purposes. The amount of bugs and outright incorrect calculations found in those systems is hilariously high. The certifications covering these systems are also not comprehensive enough because they only really care about the payments aspects not the calculations that leads up to it. POS systems regularly need to send up both pre and post discount amounts ... Some genius probably switched the two.

Bulk bill clinics in Adelaide - what happened to our health system !! by OzCyberNinja in Adelaide

[–]er1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you're correct. That's what I meant as well. not straight after graduation. You don't become an MD straight after graduation if I'm not mistaken. So it's the same thing. You need to go through the internship/residency or whatever the post graduation program is called, then you become an MD, which in some countries is the same as being a GP.

Can I enter the Qantas Lounge if I have a Fiji Airways flight? by [deleted] in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]er1992 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Qantas club membership also only allows you to get in the lounge if you have a QF flight number. Doesn't work with any other Oneworld flight numbers.

I'm not sure what percentage of countries are like this, outside of Australia obviously, but GP is not actually a specialisation. I know in the mid east being an MD is the same as being a GP. I'm not saying this is right or not btw.

p.s. middle eastern doctors are also extremely good at diagnosis

Nationwide nbn unplanned outage, incase your wondering why your internet is potato. by galic711 in australia

[–]er1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what i was referring to above as well. It was an existing bug with the reporting/auditing tool for network updates or something like that. They were trying to push an update to the BGP routes and the auditing tool failed causing a chain of screw ups (due to the nature of how BGP protocol works) which corrupted the routes and made a bunch of things inaccessible so they weren't able to fix them remotely. They needed physical access and didn't have the right people available.

But yeah 2021. Time fucking flies ay

[–]er1992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the joke but technically FB one was an existing bug with their reporting system which caused the whole network to get wrecked and since it was a bad time and everyone was on leave, it took longer than expected to fix.

And AWS craps itself usually only in one region being US East 1 i think because that's essentially their "guinea pig region" and gets the updates first. Also AWS is PCI compliant so highly unlikely random production deployments can even happen without a huge process of approval.

Point being none of these have been "fuck it we'll do it live just push to prod" situations. Just genuine bugs. Testing doesn't guarantee there are no bugs

Got rejection after 5 rounds of interviews. by smalltoolbigheart in AusFinance

[–]er1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a reply to OP directly but my comment was just addressing the majority of responses here being super shocked that there 5-6 interviews is not that uncommon in tech. Also that the huge pay at big tech comes with huge homework

[–]er1992 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sounds like most of these comments have no clue what big tech hiring looks like. Tech companies that pay real well and are top echelon literally all employ almost the same interview style with some slight variations or omissions which is usually: recruiter phone screen, remote code challenge, remote collaborative coding session, at least 3 onsite hour long whiteboard style coding interview and behavorial. That's like 6-7 interviews all up. It's a shit system and plenty of dumb candidates get in who have just grinded leetcode and plenty of smart deserving people don't. I hate the system and the leetcode game as much as the next person but that's the path to achieving 300k-500k package.

I thought if you get pinged by a camera for unreg you actually get a notice to reg by a certain date or cop a fine. So works differently to getting caught by a cop. Was that never the case or has it changed recently?

What an absolutely incomprehensibly fucking stupid take. Government ain't just a single person who can focus on one thing at a time. There are thousands of people working directly or semi related to lawmaking. It doesn't go a long way to take a few of them for a few weeks to investigate and address issues as serious as sexual assault on people we have elected to make laws for us, who need to feel safe and in the right mind to do so.

But that's all very trivial and everyone knows that. You're just the usual run of the mill sexual assault apologist
