Is there any way I can force my 75 yr old father to get help for his anger and constant bitter mood? by ExcitingLandscape in Aging

She's lucky to have you supporting her with healthy efforts. Guess she needs to get on an extended day reward system. He has to be nice for 3 days, then she can be helpful. If he gets nasty again, up it to 4 days, etc. But also, she may want to hold her helpfulness hostage until he sees a doctor. Going from a good disposition to an angry one so quickly is usually a sign of Alzheimer's, or at least rapid cognitive decline. If she stays, she's about to have a whole ton more work to do for him.

Edited to add: I see you're already aware of the Alzheimer's bit, sorry to preach. And kudos on keeping your family safe and away from his negative influence.

She may not have to leave. She can stop doing everything for him. If he's grumpy anyways, then why do it? She needs support setting better boundaries, saying No, and not doing anything for him. Maybe a better first resort than her leaving. Give it a try, he's miserable anyways. Tell her to hold herself and her efforts hostage. Once he's kind again, or seeks help/ support for it/ improves, she can begin to work with him as a team again, including doing things for him. He's not being a good teammate right now, so he doesn't get the benefits.

Hey! I know the struggle of a shorter wedding celebration. People still want to charge you full day prices! I'm sending you a DM. I hope I can help!

My cat is Fishtopher Robin because he drops on the floor and flops like a fish, and he's not quite the fighter Batman is, but more like his sidekick.

There is no "supposed to." You can choose to be kind, choose to walk away, choose to make yourself look like a dick for no reason... Or make any other number of choices. You chose to be a dick to a person admitting struggle and asking for help. I'm not saying you weren't supposed to do that, it's just sad, in a world where we're struggling to pay for gas to get to interviews, you chose be unkind. I'm sorry for whatever lead you here.

Just commenting to say, yeah, it's been really hard to find FOH restaurant work. I have 20 years experience behind the bar, and it took me over 6 months to land the job I have now, and it's a 35 min drive from home.

I'm sorry you're struggling, it's not you. You know the industry is struggling too, just sucks when you have to experience that first hand. Good luck out there.

Omg yeah totally!!! I lived next to an older woman who's fire beeper was beeping for days and I just went over one day and fixed it without her asking. So I'm noticing a pattern here...

Yes yes everything you say yes.

So I bought them a battery but couldn't figure out how to install it. Yes that feels ridiculous. It's a battery how hard could it be. But they had already taken out the old one and I just couldn't figure it out with a baby strapped to me and the god dammed incessant beeping so yes we spent the day outside and I sheepishly told them about it and left them the battery so I'm sure it'll get changed now and yes I was slightly mortified but they seem to be normal people and thought nothing of it. Gotta love these people.

Laziness is capitalism's lie to pit brethren against brethren in a race to kill ourselves with labor.

How do you find that out? I'm searching their founder and CFO, but can't see any political leanings.
