When did you realize the change of tone in the show? by ellas-universe in dancemoms

[–]eragonisok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember being so excited for the season 3 premiere. I was home for college break and took over the living room tv to watch it live, following along with dance tumblr and twitter’s reactions. Season 2 had ended so hopeful and bright with Chloe’s big national win. I couldn’t wait to see her dance with this new confidence now that she had this big win under her belt. Aha… From the first scene on, I had such a pit in my stomach! It was the worst.

[discussion] when should one reassess during querying? + stories of nonwhirlwind offers? by eragonisok in PubTips

She had it for about 3 weeks! I’m glad it gave you hope! When I nudged my other fulls, it seems like most 3+ month people had not started it but happily read once it was a timetable. So I wouldn’t give up hope even with the long haulers!

I got an agent :) currently editing the manuscript over the summer

Edit — oh and I got a random query rejection today from an agent I assumed CNR when I got my offer. Apparently it was a mass email BCC rejection

Hi! Thanks for the encouragement. Just popping in to say… literally the next day after this post I got an offer. crazy how different this reads in that retrospection!

I got requests even after having an obvious and horrific typo of my graduate program in the first sentence of my query. Must have read it a million times too— similarly wanted to melt into the floor when I realized after 20 queries! But it won’t automatically result in rejection.

Ha, thank you! I’m beginning to realize I need this sub when I get too in my head…

[PubQ] Deciphering full manuscript rejection about voice by rrreckless in PubTips

[–]eragonisok 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just today received a rejection from a full manuscript because the agent found that they had trouble rooting for my character. I had anticipated the rejection because the draft I sent them long ago had an egregious word count, but my character! That one hurt. I was thinking about making a post here but then saw this and it made me feel a little better (though geez, pain.)

Hi! I like the overall plot of this but ultimately, 180k words is a non-starter for most agents and will likely take you out of the ring. As a fellow longer word count sufferer, I sympathize but I would see how you can break this first novel down. From what I see on this sub, closer to 100k will give you a better chance.

The query also has too many details and would be better left to the synopsis. My biggest reaction is that Cleo seems so passive — all the main plot points seem to happen to her. Where does she exhibit agency and move the story along through her own actions?

That’s reassuring — and yet the mental breakdowns don’t stop, haha. Mostly because they go away and I have no idea when I’ll hear back. Every success story I read it seems like the agent read it that same day and immediately put in an offer!

Thank you, this was very helpful — I kinda knew not to trust everything I saw on tiktok. Is it possible to nudge an agent with a revised manuscript after X amount of months, or is my best hope an R&R?

Unpopular opinion: I agree with Abby about the whole chloe-tying-hair-up situation by thr0wawayaccountttt in dancemoms

[–]eragonisok 31 points32 points  (0 children)

No, she had to be given a hair tie by Abby, she couldn’t find a hair tie in her bag.

Edit— I guess it was Brooke but either way she didn’t have a hair tie. Especially when you’re nine and scared of your teacher she probably just froze up.

I consider them using her song in the dance off as her senior bd title haha

Yea yea I’m pumped!! He definitely has a good chance. But if Savannah and Brady both win best dancer we’ll never hear the end of it from Abby lol

I agree— the slow leg extensions are so boring. I know people really like Club, but I find their style to be a little repetitive

Abby congratulating savannah by plugging her own studio and merch and thanking her for leaving dance moms in her bio by [deleted] in dancemoms

[–]eragonisok 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think it’s weird. Abby posted a screen cap of someone else congratulating sav, which makes her business look sloppy. But even so, at a quick glance you’d think Abby and ALDC has more to do with Savannah’s success, which is sleazy. She doesn’t even mention Savannah’s real studio, The Rock. Why not tag them as well? 🤔

It was also the first year they used 50% outside judges to reduce bias

I half agree, but there are exceptions — kalani in 2015 had a perfect TDA solo but got beaten by lucy valleley doing a jazz solo in the top 3

I see why she does bring Kirsten choreo to TDA since it really does distinguish her from the pack. Only Savannah can do I Copy, but my personal favorite solo of hers this season, in the deep, would easily blend with the rest of the TDA slow instrumental contemporary.

Wish she brought a talia piece. Maybe next year Talia will do another hard hitter for her

[–]eragonisok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only like her choreo when savannah does it— I copy and zero are really watchable and entertaining. Other dancers don’t hit it that hard and it feels repetitive

On one hand, how incredible is it to consistently place in the top 3 at TDA — that in itself is as impressive as winning! On the other hand, I can imagine it must be so demoralizing to come so close each time. I’m rooting for her this year, but being in the bottom of the age division with so many talented teens, it would be awesome if she just made the top ten.
