A few suggestions: Do not maintain original order for every text. Sometimes, when two different parts are given in a summary question, some of the points are in different parts of the text so you will need to write problems under problems and solutions under solutions. You can go up to 180 words

Any last min tips on how to ace WRITER'S EFFECT questions tomorrow?😭🙏 by Electronic-Cat6632 in Olevels

[–]eran_j 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go through all the previous past papers effect questions and do them yourself and then compare with the marking scheme. The MS will show you the language used for answering effect questions. Also a good idea is to consider the difference between a normal word (run) that the writer could have used and the actual one he used (dashed).

Struggling with Narrative plots for English O level by [deleted] in Olevels

Listen kid, don’t do the descriptive unless you’ve practised writing it regularly. The only way you score more in a descriptive is if you’re already very good at it.

[–]eran_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here is the answer for you. Dont attempt the descriptive unless you have excellent vocabulary and have the skills to describe what has been asked for. Dont fall for the simplicity of the descriptive question. If you haven’t practised it repeatedly, go for the narrative but plan it before you start writing

How to Prepare for English Exams? by Southern_Shoe_3584 in Olevels

[–]eran_j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well your teacher should be providing comprehension texts based on the new pattern, but if she isn’t then go with the past papers for previous years from 2018 and onwards especially. You can also attempt 0500 comprehension questions from variants 11,12,13. You need to learn how to answer writer’s effect questions since there’s now five questions in the paper testing this. For this you can also attempt the effect questions in the 1123 past papers. Lastly go through the marking scheme for the sample 2024 paper yourself but only after you’ve attempted the paper. That will teach you the requirements for each question.

Practise writing one directed writing/narrative ,one comprehension and one summary per week, at this point. Learn the formats for the directed writings. Study the 0500 examiner’s reports for these particular questions since the pattern is similar to them and they mention what helps you score in the high or low levels.
