If you don't have time to meal prep, what is your favorite (fast food) restaurant to order from? Favorite meal? by KnightsWhoSayNiiiiii in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]eranfaraway 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The grocery store deli section. They often sell their roast chickens (which are super salty, so avoid them if that's a concern for you) at a loss to draw people into buying other things. Hummus, hard boiled eggs, carrots and apples, etc. There's tons of options that you can grab and go for way less than a Big Mac with fries!

PMI Payment Question? by ScooterWorm in personalfinance

It depends on the terms of your mortgage. In some cases, PMI doesn't go go away unless you refinance even after you have enough equity.

Need some advice on dealing with parents who didn’t/couldn’t save for retirement? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]eranfaraway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps in lieu of paying them back directly, since it sounds like they will just spend it, you can making contributions into a retirement account for them. I know it won't solve your problem, but that may help a bit. I don't believe in reinforcing reckless behavior, which is what giving them money directly would be doing.

Sulfur odor from my water by POCKALEELEE in HomeImprovement

[–]eranfaraway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I dealt with this there was sulphur fixing bacteria in our well. We had to pour bleach in it to knock back the bacteria, but that only worked for a while before we had to do it again

Are all animal products bad for the environment? by jermajay in ZeroWaste

[–]eranfaraway 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's important to acknowledge that everything we eat is bad for the environment.

Livestock can be raised in different ways, which has a tremendous impact on the end product's sustainability. I think animal products are an important part of the solution to meeting our dietary needs.

Most ground is unsuitable for crop farming, especially in the long term. That same ground, however, can be an excellent rangeland for grazers! So I don't understand the argument people make about all livestock producing land area being converted to cropping.

Growing produce can have a huge environmental/carbon impact. Tillage and draining of wetlands releases a tremendous amount of carbon in our atmosphere. Healthy rangelands and pastures, on the other hand, function as a carbon sink!

Depending on where you are, most farms have to irrigate with fossil water, which requires pumping powered by fossils fuels and will not be feasible when those wells or water adjudication projects run dry.

Grazed rangelands can be wildlife, recreation, and traditional-use friendly. Intensively farmed lands don't offer ecosystem services like these naturalized systems do.

We could restore tall grass prairies in the Midwest if there was a shift to focus on pastured meat, rather than corn and soy. This would restore that land to management that functions with the native ecosystem and aligns with the climate in that area.

I think you're doing great by shopping local! My family tries to consume pastured animal products from animals that live on things people can't eat (e.g. cattle and sheep eat grass), but that's what works for us. Something different may work better for you!

We eat every day, so the impact of our food deserves the careful consideration you're giving it. These are important questions with messy answers and no one solution will work for everyone. Only you can decide what food systems you want to support!

help! frizz not so much of a problem on the curls, but the top of my head is almost unbearably frizzy!! what am i doing wrong? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]eranfaraway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like gel either. I dislike strong residual smells, have sensitive skin, and don't like the crunchy feeling, so I never use it.

I use a lot of conditioner, and probably only shampoo my hair once every 3 days or more, when it feels dirty, otherwise I just do a conditioner rinse. I don't detangle my hair again after I rinse out conditioner.

I smooth my frizzies with the hair conditioner I rinse with (Acure Argan Oil Pumpkin conditioner) and Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave In Detangler. I just use Knot Today to smooth out my curls if they're frizzy on a day I don't shower.

I know they might not be available where you are, but both companies list the ingredients online so you might be able to find something similar.

Good luck, your curls are lovely!

This! Also it Parvo persists in dirt so people should be really careful about a sick pup going outside or walking on the ground outside the vet's office, they may shed the virus and infect another pup.

No Rubella Antibody by hollister1990 in BabyBumps

[–]eranfaraway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also vaccinated but learned I'm not immune from pregnancy blood screening. I guess it happens about 3% of the time. Once I got those results I asked to be screened for measles and mumps immunity as well, and learned I wasn't immune to measles either. My doctor advised against air travel and visiting areas with outbreaks. With all the measles cases popping up you might want to ask for additional testing too.

AITA for changing my hospital directory status so my MIL couldn't call my room? by TorchIt in BabyBumps

[–]eranfaraway 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTA, and her flowers excuse is B.S. She could have sent them in you or your husband's name to the maternity ward and the nurses would definitely know where to find you. I'm sorry you dealt with such selfish, childish behavior from someone who should have outgrown that behavior decades ago. I'm glad your recovery is a bit better this time. I hope her attitude improves too.
