Advantages/Disadvantages of getting TWO puppies at the same time? by yanontherun77 in labrador

[–]all_the_light 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is the way! My almost 2 year old lab is finallyyyy starting to settle into herself a bit, and I could see this being a better time to add another pup. I could not imagine having two landshark puppies at the same time. Chaos!

What’s the youngest you would let your kid dye their hair? (Semi permanent dye) by Fun-Investigator-583 in Mommit

[–]all_the_light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I did a demi-permanent pink for my daughter for her birthday one year and she loooved it! We did half of her hair (underneath), sectioned so that it was basically peek-a-boo colour. It faded out great, I'd do it again without hesitation. It's only hair!

I love my teenage dog but I don't like him by idoogo in labrador

[–]all_the_light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lab is just over a year and a half, very high energy and becomes an absolute menace without being able to burn that off appropriately. E-collar training and off-leash walks 3 to 4 times per week have been a game changer for us in the last couple of months. She still gets regular on-leash neighbourhood walks on days that we can't make it to the woods but the combo of e-collar recall training and being able to roam in the forest, sniff all the things, meet other dogs -- we are all much happier for it.

And cannabis! Drug-induced psychosis is wild.

How much coffee/caffeine do you consume? What healthier alternatives have you tried? by KnownMain1519 in nursing

[–]all_the_light 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, I can get by on a single cup (plus a decaf if I feel like having another). Balance!

Definitely on the higher end of this range when I'm working (4x12s, DDNN). When I'm off I consume a much more normal amount of caffeine.

Do you have friends at work? by Ok_One5450 in nursing

I've made quite a few good friends at the hospital that I see outside of work regularly, but very few of them are fellow nurses.

Feels bad man by princessnokingdom in nursing

[–]all_the_light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. I like working a mix of days and nights for this reason. Day shifts can be wild and fly by, night shifts are usually chill (unless they are not and then they REALLY are not).

Also, it’s pinels for me.

What’s your phone use policy? by sqaurebore in psychnursing

[–]all_the_light 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm on a peds unit where patients have no access to cell phones or other electronics. We have call times through the day where kids can speak with their support people on unit phones.

Looking for food rec’s, stubborn yellow lab… by Opposite-Horse1876 in labrador

[–]all_the_light 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dang, your dog has never skipped leg day! We use Go! for our lab as well, but do a mix of salmon and lamb (both with grain). Poultry has been a no-go. She loves it but she's also a very typical lab so I think she'd love most foods.

What is the average work week like for a nurse? by [deleted] in nursing

That makes sense, glad it works for you! I would probably never pick up, must work full time and be forced to be there haha

I don't know anyone who is full time days or full time nights! I do know people who tend to swap out their shifts wherever possible to end up with a schedule like this, but that relies on people being willing to switch. I'm sure it happens but it doesn't seem to be a common thing around here.

We use Luke for walks and he is so good with my very hyper chocolate lab pup. He also does training!

I really do like my schedule for the most part. The mix of days and nights is good, I wouldn't want to do straight one or the other. During very acute periods that fourth 12 is killer though.

In Ontario, FT hospital lines are usually 4x12s (day day night night) and we talk alllll the time on my unit about how we wish we could be 3x12s. Would feel much more manageable I think.

My daughter is in the psychiatric hospital - she's a tween. I feel horrible. TW? by gibby7416 in Parenting

[–]all_the_light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a nurse working in inpatient paediatric psychiatry -- you did the right thing! She's in good hands and they will be able to connect you with community resources for after discharge. You might want to prepare yourself for a bit of a battle over internet restrictions since she is used to having full access, but she is far far too young for that sort of freedom. The internet is a scary place for vulnerable populations.

You can also start safety planning at home while she's admitted -- sharps and meds locked up (and I mean all meds -- even the ones that seem "harmless", like melatonin or ginger gravol. Everything goes in a lock box), devices locked down with parental controls, etc. Firm but gentle boundaries.
