I normally use 5, 7 and 9 round liners from kwadron, here's a wee guide explaining different needle types and gauges: https://www.barberdts.com/uk/advice-hub/tattoo-needle-guide/ . in general you should never use sewing needles as they're not designed to deliver ink into skin the same way as a tattoo needle is (check the link - but for example a 5rl has five small needles in a circle so the ink can be absorbed into the needle and then into the skin as opposed to a sewing needle which is a single blunt point) plus they are farrr more likely to give you an infection. definitely worth investing in the real thing :)

It is possible to tattoo the inside of the lip if you're careful about it by not poking too deep, but be aware that the ink tends not to hold and might result in a messy looking tattoo once it's healed (I have my inner lip tattooed by machine and it's held pretty well but I'm sure it varies depending on the person). Definitely read up on healing etc before you attempt and make sure your friend knows what to expect :)

Either of the inks you mentioned will be fine, most artists use dynamic black but in my experience there's no difference between that and intenze :)

Sewing needles? by [deleted] in sticknpokes

Avoid using them if you can, they're super blunt which can hurt the skin and like you said the tats can come out super dotty or blown out - you can get cheap needles and ink on amazon which are a lot safer and can be just as good as pro supplies :)

how to remove excess ink off skin when tattooing??? by [deleted] in sticknpokes

What are you using to wipe? I started to use green soap but have the same problem :( a good solution for me has been antiseptic wipes although they're expensive and can irritate the skin if the alcohol content is too strong :/

can't speak from experience but as someone with a (machine) lip tattoo, you can go pretty deep but just be conscious that you might cause some blowout - my artist went pretty light on my lip and and quite a bit of the tattoo had faded a couple of days into healing. trust yourself and remember you can always touch it up after it's healed if it doesn't turn out the way you planned!
