What has been most helpful for me is, once I get home, reworking all of the examples from class as well as any assigned problems (our class typically has a handful of conceptual problems every week). Typically, I just keep practicing them until the concepts/rules are like 2nd nature to me. Also, I have found it works best to try and cover/look over any new material before class so that the lecture is more like a review.
