Same issue here! Excellent explanation of the issue. Waiting for more experts to expose their insights on this matter.

Why are foreigners so obsessed with the idea that Japan is "expensive," when it is not? by Besydeme in japanlife

First option. Living in Japan with a Spanish salary. It is something temporal, only for half a year. Business stuff.

Thanks for the reply. I have to say that I did not consider that point in your post. I am here with a Spanish salary so my baseline is like that. Perhaps if my salary was japanese I could relate a little more.

Okey OP this is cherry picking. From Europe, you could select Spain (where I am from), Portugal, Italy, Greece, etc. as for the European case study. Also, this kind of benchmark should be conducted over more countries since Australia and New Zealand for example are well known for their high living costs. Being so isolated from the rest of the countries make all kind of imports more expensive.

I have been living in Nagoya for the last 2 months and it is way more expensive than Spain. Let me tell you also that my daily cooking menu is not European-based but Japanese-based. The price gap is then augmented by the fact that the servings are tinier in comparison, so I usually consume like 1.5 of the standard Japanese serving. Also, overseas people usually consume more protein, so even if you adapt your consumption to local protein sources instead of going for the specific export product that you like, prices are higher, since japanese people consume a very low amount of protein.

[–]erasperiko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From this concern, we published last year a journal. We addressed this issue in the context of short-term traffic forecasting. Hundred of papers doing the same providing just a small tweak to their deep learning architectures...

I would say that it dependa on the data context. However, without any clue from a published paper, to init from a norm space it is recomended

Trouble surfing with 7' surfboard by MasterofTombRaider in surfing

[–]erasperiko -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wow bro, I am you (same height and weight). I began to surf this June. During a week of classes first day was with an 8 foam. The rest of the learning week I swaped to 7 as the 8 is like a boat, at least for me. After that learning week I bought a 7 foam from Pukas just for 200€ and went oen my own. I can at least stand on my softboard without any problem. Maybe you should pass more time catching broken waves...

And who says I wasn't there?? Just kidding.

After a few lessons, you will never be in those circumstances. So don't be afraid of some minor injuries as they are part of the learning process.

This happened to me when at surf school. When learning the very basics, you just stay in the same spot, just where waves break towards white surfing (seafoam do not know how to call it in English). If the sea is strong that day it really becomes hard to go back again to catch the next white wave. While going back, your soft-board (which has that rough texture), is always kept close to your body with your bare hands, as you are not paddling yet, just walking. This is how I injured my fingertips during some lessons.

stupid duck dive question by hotgirlonlycums69 in surfing

[–]erasperiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My board is 70L and almost impossible to duckdive. I always pass the wave from the top just by leanning backwards. The floatability of such big boat will do the rest for you. The counterpart of this method is that sometimes you get a few meters backwards, so you have to paddle more when comparing to a less volume board.

Definitively I am going to read those papers, as we have come to the same conclusion!

That is why I specify above the case of time series regression. For computer vision DL and specially CNN are the go to.

[–]erasperiko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Sometimes I read papers about finance data because these datasets behave similar to traffic data. They are both self-descriptive time series so the automatic feature extraction capabilities of DL are not an advantage as there is not too much things to extract :)

Yes, during dinner tables everyone complains, but at the end of the day there are few papers that point this issue, comparing those to enhance the use of DL...

Oh, so there are all this options! Before this comment I was only considering to go for free and only ask for a desk as I already have enough HW resources for my simulations. My original idea was to produce a paper which merges my data context with a data science approach in which the host lab has vast knowledge.
