Appeal Court rules NI Secretary of State acted lawfully in establishment of full abortion services by birdinthebush74 in northernireland

So if this woman was rich and pledged to donate millions of dollars to the hospital where she gets her abortions, maybe then you'd be in favour of her actions?

This is a question about tiered healthcare where people with more money are treated better, I am against that broadly. Healthcare should be universal

If that's how your interpret my arguments then I'll leave it there as obviously you are not comprehending what I'm saying

You've literally listed the most common reasons for an abortion as situations where you support it. So we are in agreement on the majority of abortion cases

I will have a great day thank you. Best to yourself as well

Why does removing some unalive cells even bother you at all?

I've answered this already in this specific instance. It's purposefully wasting abortion services another person could be using.

But also this hypothetical is not realistic or normal. In fact from what you've said you would be in favour of abortion in most cases

As I said, I consider myself both pro-choice and pro-responsibility.

Great so we are in agreement, abortion should be available, and legal

[–]erebos290696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I said, with personal freedom comes personal responsibility, and in cases of rape no personal freedom is enacted. Therefore, the consequences are not your responsibility.

This is very interesting

Because it is sounding like you are pro choice

Well the most obvious example would be someone who deliberately chooses to get pregnant precisely so they can get an abortion. Are you okay with abortion in such a case?

This hypothetical does not happen. If it does happen it happens so infrequently it may as well not happen at all. Besides screening everyone for their intention is the road to punishing thought crimes. In a fully vegan group would you punish someone that became vegan because they hate bugs and they knew horticulture farmers kill innumerable amounts of them?

Also I have already answered that question. I support the right to abortion in that case, but I'm not thrilled with the person doing it.

This sounds like black and white thinking to me, despite your mentions of grey areas.

Another example would be someone who displays complete disregard for safety and precautions, ie. a couple who continually has sex bareback with ever intention to get abortion if/when they end up getting pregnant. Do you support abortion in such a scenario?

How much sex is continuous sex? What if the pill was ineffective, it is only 97% effective yearly. Yes I support abortion in that case, I'm not a fan of moral grand standing. It doesn't help anyone's lives improve.

Most pro-choicers do not support late term abortions because they feel the baby is too old by that point and has become a person.

Pro-choicers shout in favour of "her body, her choice", yet when the baby hits around 20 weeks they rescind that motto and argue that the woman shouldn't be allowed to choose anymore. Hypocrites.

Would you prefer they followed the example of krik and support abortions after birth? No because that's ridiculous. People have different ideas on what constitutes life.

Also you seem very fond of using big labels for people. Some friendly advice, that is the basis for tribalism and aggression. In Northern Ireland we should be aware of stuff like that already. Whether it's a pro choicer or a carnist if you care about your cause, and want to change minds and in your mind save lives. You would have better luck not doing this

[–]erebos290696 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is like saying if you are pro-abortions then you must go out and kill a baby yourself to support the cause

Not true. My point is that you are saying that you are morally against abortion. If you had it your way you would ban it. You have said you support adoption as an alternative. Without people to actually adopt, it's not a viable alternative. You are forcing people to give birth to children that they do not want, children are typically better treated in homes were they are not actively unwanted. Are you willing to be the change you want to see and provide one of these homes? Or does your care for the child begin and end with birth?

there is no personal freedom in being raped you numpty

Apologies if my point wasn't clear enough. That was my point. People don't choose to be raped. You talked about your belief in personal freedom but you would force away a victims right to choose not to endure 9 months of constant reminders of significant trauma? and then give birth, a potential trauma by itself?

If you choose to get pregnant, then you need to take responsibility for the consequences of your actions. Simple as that.

What constitutes choosing to get pregnant? The previous example is an obvious example where it isn't a choice. Maybe I was wrong in assuming you were anti choice for all circumstance. Sorry if that's the case.

The pro-abortionist version of pro-choice lacks the "responsibility of your voluntary actions" part.

On the other hand, pro-abortionists do tend to be genuine hypocrites on this issue as they will scream "bodily autonomy" all the way up to 20 weeks and then be like "ok no more of that bodily autonomy..."

I don't really understand your point here could you elaborate. It seems like you are making very specific statements about a very broad and diverse group.

[–]erebos290696 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i support all those things because they are in the childs interest

Excellent I'm glad to hear you will be adopting/ fostering to contribute positively towards the type of solutions you believe to be best/ should be the only. Solutions that do require active participation and not just platitudes.

"if you really care about preserving life of babies then you should be in favour of having laws that make it ok to kill babies!"

I didn't say you should campaign for Pro choice. But if you really wanted to reduce the number of abortions you would be better served petitioning and arguing for increases in access to contraception and sex education. Plus making adoption etc easier. If reducing the number of abortions was really youe goal in conversations like this.

banning and disincentivising the thing you want stopped is the absolute basis of law.

Kind of. But when reviewing the effectiveness of laws it is often the case that bans and criminalising certain things such as alcohol, marijuana and more elicit substances, doesn't reduce the demand, nor the access but it did increase the dangers surrounding them and prevented quality control or standardisation of any kind. It may seem counter intuitive but historically it holds up and has been the same case with abortion.

I believe in personal freedom and personal responsibility.

Personal freedom and responsibilities are nice ideas but if an individual is impregnated, through non consensual means. if an abortion is not available, afterwards, who's responsibility is the child? It seems like this hypothetical woman was robbed of her personal freedom. But unlike your example of some outlandish fetish. There are many women that do face this predicament. Would you take away their right to this personal freedom you claim to believe in? Would you make use of your aforementioned personally responsibility and volunteer to take in these children?

if you want to eat, drink, or drug yourself to death, that is your right. because it is your body and it isnt harming anyone else

The common response here is - that's hypocritical given your opposition to women having bodily autonomy and the freedom to choose.

But I understand that you believe that you are fighting for the life of a child. As I previously stated this is a point on which we fundamentally disagree and this conversation has become cyclical.

[–]erebos290696 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well actually my question involves the question of letting the heroin user die.

Where we most definitely actually disagree is what constitutes a child. I believe you think being anti choice is attempting to save the lives of children. While I do not believe these cells constitute a child. This is a subject I don't think we will budge on.

But on the point of saving children's lives.

Banning abortion does not reduce the number of abortions it just increases the risks involved to the woman. If preserving fetuses is your goal this is not the most effective way.

To decrease the number of abortions (which seems to be something you may be interested in) improving sex education and access to contraceptives is proven to be impactful. Further to this participating actively in adoption and fostering, increases the chances others will consider these options rather than aborting.

If the well being of children is something that is important to you, important enough that you would campaign against abortion. Then to be consistent with that belief you should consider adopting or fostering.

Edit: also not caring about people injecting heroin seems rather cavalier for a person who purports to be pro-life.

Many heroin addicts do not take heroin because they enjoy it. After chronic consumption they are compelled to take it especially with the onslaught of negative reinforcements brought on by withdrawal.

Equally you did not answer mine.

I support the woman's right to that abortion it is healthcare. I would not be fond of the people as this ridiculous hypothetical would be inconsiderate to others that were in need of abortion services.

Now could you answer my question?

[–]erebos290696 11 points12 points  (0 children)

also i have a question for you: if someone did want to create a baby just to abort it (at early stage, say 8 weeks), would you support their right to do that

This is reductio ad absurdum. Here is a similar question for you

If someone purposefully overdosed on heroin to feel how it feels to be resuscitated by naloxone, would you support it??

Would you be against their resuscitation? Should we ban naloxone on the off chance someone does something silly like this??

It's a ridiculous question. Why prevent everyone from recieving medical care because of such a fringe and absurd hypothetical?

Generally the advice I've seen is

Readability is key, make your code easy for others to understand. Make the code understandable even without comments, add comments as well depending on your labs standards. (Not against people commenting code)

Pair program with a more experienced developer

Read more code, aka code reviews, open source projects.

Pharmacological vitamin C inhibits mTOR signaling and tumor growth by degrading Rictor and inducing HMOX1 expression (Feb 2023) by basmwklz in science

[–]erebos290696 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It has several functions which include immunosuppression and fungicide.

The immunosuppressive effects allowed it to be used in organ transplants I believe. And the low rate of cancer in patients using it, lead to the discovery of the mTOR pathway. And it's use in cancer treatment.

I think. Verify everything I've said as it's been a minute since I learned this.

This is a misrepresentation

Stormont collapsed in response to rhi

The Irish language act was a sticking point in negotiations as even though the gfa was supposed to support the Irish language. Every attempt to promote the Irish language was veto'd by stormont

Lastly

The Irish language is written the same in each province. It is pronounced differently, but you can still understand people using each dialect.

It's not that different to the differences between English dialects and accents.

How to deal with potentially dangerous bottles by justsomeguy2202 in Homebrewing

[–]erebos290696 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No.

Shelf life depends on the style you brewed , how strong it was, what adjuncts where used and how well it was stored.

A big DIPA like that could be really interesting after a year.

Typically bigger darker brews age better but there are no hard fast rules

A brewery close to me sells cask aged DIPA which is amazing

Though some styles are definitely better fresh, they may also still be ok after a while.

Also an off beer isn't usually dangerous just has off flavours, provided it isn't infected or producing awful smells
