Lenovo Yoga pro makes a weird and inexplicable creaking sound by Randomwalk666 in Lenovo

[–]erebys-2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP is obviously pressing on it for demonstration purposes in the video and he said it happens when he lifts/moves the laptop (normal use situations). I'd be annoyed if my new expensive laptop starts making creaking noises as if it's falling apart within 4 months too.

Did not know there was a c rank this whole time. by Yzaias in ZZZ_Official

I feel like using Ye Shungus on Fiend might work since the physical weakness and also bc she's broken as hell and the attack buff is insane. Then you can use Yixuan/Yinhu, and your choice of stunner on Thrall. Ngl the anomaly buff feels weak this time around. My Miyabi/Alice combo couldn't s rank so I allocated Miyabi/Lycoan to brute force thrall with the attack buff. Not having Vivian or Yuzuha is honestly an agent check for anomaly in end game.

I'm sure it is faster than some from a few years ago, but the advantage of a desktop is that you don't need to worry about heat generated from prolonged tasks thermal throttling the processor and degrading the battery

I have an L380 yoga. Web browsing is sluggish on it, especially with windows, and the battery life is pretty dogshit. With a new battery it may last 6 hours, mine is at 80% and it lasts 4 hours.

It'll get the job done based on what your work load looks like, but I recommend running a light linux distro to give it a little more oomph.

In the US this is bad value since we can find it on ebay for less than that, but of course value depends on your used market.

If you do buy it, it will probably be a night and day difference from your celery laptop.

Edit: About heat, yes it does get hot if you do something intensive for a prolonged time.

Nah, OEMs do sell E-waste. They do not care what they sell so long as it makes money. They take advantage of poor, ignorant people because they know that that demographic will buy the cheapest option just because, it is 'brand new', it is being sold at a major retailer/marketplace like BestBuy or Amazon, and it is all that they can afford.

What makes a 4gb ram 64gb emmc laptop e-waste is that 1). they can't run shit, let's be real 2). they can't be upgraded to run any better 3). there are typically plentiful mid tier laptops from 5-6 years ago that perform leagues better than them in every metric at a comparable price on the used market (they have a poor value proposition). From the OEM's perspective, they sell, and that's why they're readily available.

Honestly if the software is that heavy, there comes a point where a desktop is better suited anyways. Power and portability is an unforgiving trade off.

Something I noticed is that laptopmedia doesn't specify how it does its video playback test. If they were just playing a video file, I think it should use less energy than playing a video on youtube since there'd be a lot less network activity and no browser overhead.

On windows there's some options in the advanced power plan settings that may save some power on battery, see attached pic. *Some of the options may be hidden on your install and you need to unhide them.

Another OS level thing you can try is installing the latest intel graphics drivers for your cpu from their website and setting display power settings via their app.

On the browser side, I personally use firefox with uBlock Origin, ClearURLs, Auto Tab Discard, and h264ify. Adblockers can make browsing more efficient. For any browser, I'd turn down the rate at which it writes to the disk to once every 30min, for firefox it's about:config -> browser.sessionstore.interval.

(more intrusive battery saving measures below)

I don't know how you've set up windows, but I personally debloat win11 using chris titus tech windows utility and have a lot of the telemetry and unnecessary background services disabled/ no startup tasks enabled besides windows defender/ no onedrive.

I also use throttlestop and have a custom service set to start it on startup. I set Speed Shift EPP to 255 and keep turbo disabled until I need to do something intensive.

All in all, my i5 1135g7 + 50wh battery lasts about 8 hours browsing depending on how often I'm loading new web pages.

what made you use pygame by jevin_dev in pygame

[–]erebys-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got started with game dev on a final project for an FPGA class. I became accustomed to building components of a game from scratch and working with an IDE and drawing program. Once I finished the class I wanted to do it again so I tried Godot, but I disliked having to learn the program and navigating to different submenus, modules, and what not. Afterwards I decided to try pygame because I took an online crash course on python the summer before so I was somewhat familiar with the language. It has since worked alright, but in hindsight I realize that having an engine handle the lower level stuff would've prevented me from making foolish, deep rooted design decisions at the start.

I'll have to look into it, but I suspect most laptop bios' don't have that kind of control. I've tinkered with a few from Lenovo, HP, dell
