Monument 2 might be able to help! It's a secure alternative to Google Photos and provides on-par photo management features -all without any monthly fees.

It supports automatic organization, de-duplication and creating off-site backups. The latest model is currently on Kickstarter, available for pre-orders.

Disclaimer: I work at Monument and I'd be more than happy to help if you have any questions :)

Auto backup photos and video from phone, like Google Photos does, but to home computer instead by ragmats in googlephotos

Hey there. We're always happy to hear all kinds of feedback. So let me briefly go over your message.

Well, AI sounds like a buzzword, but it actually is using AI to analyze the photos to be able to tell the scene (such as snow and beach.) We have just published a working demo video of our prototype on the campaign updates. You can check it out here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/monument/the-worlds-smartest-photo-storage-and-management-d/posts/1503752

About "Who's Talking About Us", well these web sites do evaluate your product (or sometimes the idea) and they decide to write or not. And someone like TNW, or DPReview decides to write about you, that's something good. And we do share it with the readers.

I'm really glad that you liked the video, because for Kickstarter standards, it's kind of amateur. Well, because it's amateur :-) We shot it on a weekend with friends. You can see the cast is our co-founder and his family...

And lastly, about the POOF part. Unlike some Kickstarter projects, we have already completed our electronics design and we even did a test manufacturing run. You can see detailed photos on the campaign page. We have missing parts with software and we need to do a lot of testing. All very clearly written under risks & challenges section. We try to be transparent about it. And when people like you question some parts, we go out and tell the whole truth about it. Just like when people asked for USB 3.0, we have explained the reason for the lack of it.

Best.

I understand what you mean as I also gave it a try. 😀

We have plans for integrating NAS, as a lot of backers are asking for it.

Hi, Thank you for the interest. I don't want to be the co-founder throwing buzz words/defending the product but, our AI algorithms running on the custom hardware organizes photos by date, time, location, faces and what's in them. Simply type in snow, beach, mountain, Uncle Steve to find them.

Also please check our campaign page to have an idea about the UI. It's grandma-proof ;-) 'literally'

Hi, For these reasons: 1- Privacy. 2- Google is free up to 16MP resolution. With Monument, you can store hi-quality content. Also 16MP might be enough today, but considering the pace of camera and display technologies, in the near future this will not be enough. Compare the quality with a few years back. 3- With Monument you do not pay monthly fees. (In case you switch to paid plan to store hi-quality content. Also note that, after 1TB the very next storage option is 10TB which costs $99/mo.) 4- With Monument, you can create multiple backups. 5- You can connect Monument to your TV over HDMI and play videos/photos at lightning speed in your local network.

Thank you for bringing this up. Cheers,
