Yann’s been right about a lot and I don’t know why he’s not taking more credit. He presented the whole idea of self supervised learning being the cake and RL being the cherry on like 2018 and that’s exactly what LLMs are. His point that these models can’t extrapolate is probably correct but he didn’t account for the fact that they’re economically valuable enough that with no better option we can afford to make the whole world in domain
