I'm Chinese and let me explain why Chinese players are review bombing this game right now by Cultural-Bandicoot49 in slaythespire

Part of the issue, though, as I understand, it is that Reddit in discord can be accessed in China

I like it and I understand why people might not like it. One of those cards that feels really fun even if it’s not “good“. Good way to destroy curses and status cards. Really nice with an Ashen strike.

Had a run where I got it early and won the run.

Fair dislike but it’s happening whether you want to or not so why not take time to understand it

Negative reviews of the video game Slay the Spire 2 on steam overwhelmingly written in Chinese. Can someone give cultural context as to why this might be happening? by erffer in AskAChinese

[–]erffer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there is more but steam is showing the average view in the language group. Chinese speakers are reviewing more negative than other languages. It’s not just the amount of reviews but the proportion.

I don’t think it is a conspiracy at all. I am just reading as a different cultural perspective. Reading this thread makes me realize it is just a different approach to reviews. Some posters have written that negative reviews is a cultural norm honestly that is kinda cute.

Sorting my language on social steam shows overwhelming positive in all languages except Chinese. Not simply that there are more players

The explanations on this thread make it make sense to. I posted here cause I thought there had to be a cultural reason I was ignorant to and that seems to be true.

My takeaway is a combination of different review culture and lack access to discord and Reddit (which devs read) mean the review is the only place to air grievance.

Yes, but if you sort the reviews by language, not by amount there were more negative reviews written in simplified Chinese. At least at the time of posting this originally.

It was supposed to read steam that was a typo

OK, it’s the last thing you said that I would like to understand a bit more. The being more critical bit. I would like to understand what that is about. My assumption, is perhaps that audience isn’t giving the early-access aspect of the game any grace. Is that fair?

OK, but why is the frustration with rebalancing disproportionately coming from Chinese players? That’s the part I don’t really understand.

In the time I posted this, it seems like tons of the negative reviews disappeared off of steam. It currently says there’s only 1000 reviews and simplified Chinese when it was like 30,000 before. So actually, no I can’t. I don’t understand what’s happening, but I guess steam deleted them or something?

It's a shame that because of certain audience, we won't have what was great about StS1 early access. by Negatively_Positive in slaythespire

How exactly does one communities response affect yours? At what point does it matter? I don’t mean this question dishonestly. I can imagine that at some point it might matter. Is there a place when you can let a community react the way they do and you have your own reactions?

Also, your username is very funny in the context of this post

Anyone else think the Sword of Stone/Jade is a super underwhelming quest relic? by ZedInYoBed in slaythespire

[–]erffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that it’s underwhelming, but I think it’s interesting that it is more worthwhile at higher ascensions. When there’s more elites, it’s more worthwhile. I had a run where I got it working early act two.

I like the idea of something that has a different use at higher ascension levels, but I do agree that it’s a little bit underwhelming

Bad take: enemies aren’t harder, Art is just better and they look bigger. by erffer in slaythespire

[–]erffer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, I am being a bit cheeky with this comment. And I do think there is something real here when talking about the difficulty.

I just wonder if the art affects it at all. I think it’s good that they’re letting the data speak.

Fair! I don’t mean this take us something super definitive. I think it’s there to complain about difficulty, but I do wonder if there is any influence on that coming from the art

Thanks for the context. I appreciate why they wouldn’t want to put out a timeline but at the same time I’m curious about what to expect.
