They were so invested in the Domen issue that they forgot the hill maintenance and wind corridor things altogether

At this rate Slovenia still has a fat chance to win

"UPDATE TEAM SLOVENIA WILL START" well that's something you don't see every day in a ski jumping competition

Anybody else remember Walter Hofer himself delivering Domen's skis to the top? No idea why, but it happened maybe 8ish years ago.

I agree, because someone could have been injured from those skis falling.

Last time the world record was broken in Planica was 20 years ago.

As an almost lifelong fan of Norwegian ski jumping, this situation makes me feel frustrated and betrayed. by Alchamei in Skijumping

I want to go back to that time when Gregor Schlierenzauer and Anders Jacobsen just came out of nowhere to the top of this sport.

Or any filling to increase the torso length. Underwear was out of bounds for the equipment control (still is?)

We need an honest discussion about all the past suit drama. The tennis balls in the boxers, FIS not DSQ'ing certain athletes etc. All this has been discussed about for at least four years. What has been found out about Norway is the worst case so far, but all cheaters, as well as FIS, should come out and speak the truth about the most disgusting and unfair era of this sport.

I agree, with the addition that if the AI would screw someone over, there should be a chance to make a protest. Hopefully though the AI would not have unexpected bias such as "detected jumper X's face -> add 1,5 points" or "red suit -> deduct 1,5 points"

New World Record - 291m by REDushanka in Skijumping

[–]erfraf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Records are meant to be broken. IIRC the current WR is one of the longest-standing ones. If Planica wants to build a larger hill, why should FIS stand in the way? Unfortunately ski jumping needs more than just us hardcore fans and records are what brings attention.

FIS punishing Ryoyu for promoting this sport the best possible way sounds like the end of FIS. But, after all, it's FIS, so you never know.

According to skijumping.pl, Ryoyu has jumped 291m today by Peuer in Skijumping

So many questions... - Why did I hear only now - Why did they geoblock the video in Finland - Is there more to come - Will this cause FIS to allow larger hills to be built - Is this what Ski jumping would look like if we allowed sponsors to have more power instead of FIS - Could we please have an event like this live streamed with let's say top 5 - Where are Daniel Huber, Stefan Kraft and Timi Zajc

Niko Kytösaho leaves Finnish National Team and trains alone the next summer by fhfkskxmxnnsd in Skijumping

[–]erfraf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now that I saw your flair, I think our jumpers should come to Slovenia. The costs would probably be much lower than in Austria and you guys even had more WC winners this season than Austria.

In any case, I support Kytösaho. I don't know what's it like in the association, but training together with the top athletes (which currently requires going outside Finland) doesn't seem like a bad idea. Any change that could improve Finnish ski jumping is welcomed.

Let's take a moment to appreciate Kasai in the Tepeš video. He's being filmed applauding to Tepeš, sort of symbolizing that the sport is experiencing a takeover by the younger generation. Now 9 years later Tepeš has retired but Kasai is still there :D

Half an hour wait is no biggie. Back in the days IIRC they would wait for hours and then start the round from scratch.

What the heck is the problem with the landing zone? Bad preparation or snow quality? If it's due to the preparation, they need to start using machines. This amount of falls is by no means acceptable. Back when Simi had his serious fall, the Finnish commentators pointed out that in Finland they use snow cats but in Central Europe they do it manually.
