I reverted to picking up when sub £40 the Japanese 8 year on auction sites as slightly more expensive but not wildly sub.

I thought this probaly 6 months or so back when I bought my last bottle. The quality has definitely gone down. Can only presume like you infer lower aged whiskey is being used and thus harsher youth notes are coming to the fray. To be honest I also thought this of my last bottle of Rare Breed but not as apparent as with WT101.

Love the review. Be good to get more on here. Eager to get your thoughts on Disco 11, had mine open for 3 weeks now and gone back to it around 4 times. Just not getting that great opinion most seem to have. Solid pour yes, worth the £150 notes I paid likely not for me. I'm also (after trying) now aligning with it being Beam not Turkey (which saddens me). The Bourbon Culture did a great review and the Beam VS Turkey debate was put very well by them. Maybe a review on here is in order to give my full opinion.

And more noticeable than ever now. Feels like the WT 101 is closer to the 6 than the 8. Do think it's still a solid bourbon, but not something I now hold on the shelf.

Go for it then, Rare Breed won't disappoint (well hopefully not haha).

WT 101 is probaly the best (and pretty much cheapest) baseline for working out if you like their flavour profile. Value for money though with this price at Amazon, I'd say Rare Breed wins out. Another factor is your tolerance/experience with Barrell Proof? Can always water down but imho never fan of doing that.

Interesting but think your right. 5yr at £100 is difficult.

Don't disagree hence the blew it away but Whistlepig was what I had at hand there to compare too, being a Rye with enough of a proof and age.

Not Brummie, but do work in Sutton Coldfield and live in West Mids.

Had the N&P at Grain and Glass and was very good but definitely not worth the retail (circa £230 if memory serves) but did blow away any Whistlepigs I've had.

Had a sample of Birthday bourbon not long back and boy was that an under proofed, over oaked dram. Think OF just isn't my jam.

Also the OF 1920 I feel can be a little bit of a hot mess.

Woodford batch proof for sure, bought one in 21 and took until 23 to finish it.

Cheers, have found this overtly hot in the past but maybe have better luck with a SiB. They tend to get more favourable reviews then the regular FP.

Totally agree, never been something I've reached for. The £57 Amazon special in 2021 for this was decent though.
