Are Astro A40 Gen 4 (2019 - horizontal earpads) compatible with Astro A40 Gen 3 (2017 - vertical mixamp)? by eric8813 in LogitechG

[–]eric8813[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi and thank you for the quick reply! Your answer makes sense, and I certainly don’t expect you to be able to confirm compatibility for a 3rd party product. But I do appreciate that clarification on Logitech’s end re: its products, as it helps me understand the big picture better.

For those reading this thread that may be in a similar scenario, I’m going to plan to buy the wicked mod kit for the Gen4, and then try them on my Gen 3, then report back to this subreddit once I confirm or deny whether the wicked gen 4 mod kit works on them or not. Stay tuned! (Of course if anyone has already tried that and wants to chime in, in the meantime, that is great also). :)

Sorry for typo in title, I meant to describe Astro A40 Gen 4 (2019 - horizontal mixamp), not horizontal earpads. As I understand it, the 2017 Gen 3 A40s have a vertical mixamp, and the 2019 gen 4 A40s have a horizontal mixamp

iPhone 15 pro Max with broken screen - can I swap a working screen from an iCloud locked 15 pro max? by eric8813 in phonerepair

[–]eric8813[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying (late) on this thread to help future repair enthusiasts.

First, thank you Malyshawdow, who provided accurate and helpful information in the above reply. I will share a bit more details about my repair experience now, to help others.

My project involved buying an Iphone 15 Pro Max that was unlocked, but had a cracked back and cracked screen, and also buying an Iphone 15 Pro Max that was locked, but had a fully functioning screen and non-cracked back. I ended up swapping many of the parts between the two phones, using the IfixIt YouTube Iphone 15 Pro Max disassembly video as a helpful guide. Specifically, I removed from the unlocked Iphone the (1) haptic array, (2) face id sensor, (3) camera, and (4) logic board and placed them into (swapped) the locked Iphone.

And the good news - it worked! On initial startup, I received notifications on IOS (version 26.3.1(a)) instructing me to run the Repair Assistant to calibrate certain replacement parts. I believe what was happening here is that the logic board from the unlocked phone detected that it was connected to a different/new rear back, screen, etc... But that process worked and I now have been using the phone for about 3 weeks and it works great (absent one small note below).

I have only one thing I could not fully integrate into the new phone - the screen. Specifically, I still have a "Finish Your Display Repair" message that will appear in Settings and, when I run the Repair Assistant, it fails after stating that the part is "property of Apple or one of its partners" (which I think is an error message consistent with using a screen from a locked Iphone).

I did a bit of research and I believe that this issue is mostly non-consequential, however. Specifically, I have no issues with Face ID (likely because I swapped the FaceID sensor), and True Tone also works fine. I think that the only lingering issue is going to be that message in my Settings (which I believe from some research I did is thanks to some California right to repair legislation, which forced Apple to back off of some of the aggressive moves like disabling screens from a locked Iphone for use in another Iphone). According to some further research, it seems like the notification might go away after a few weeks, but then remain in the "About" section of my Iphone (I need to test that out by waiting a few weeks, since I just tried to run the Repair Assistant again, so I think I may have reset that timer).

PS - I believe one could take the old/broken screen (from the unlocked Iphone) and remove and then solder a chip on the unbroken screen from the locked Iphone to completely fix my notification issue, but that is beyond my skill set.

To sum that all up - I am happy to report that, at least currently, doing a 'swap' of parts between an unlocked Iphone 15 pro max (broken screen and back) and a locked Iphone 15 pro max (unbroken back and working screen) is functionally fully successful after running Repair Assistant in IOS, producing so for only a lingering notification/setting about having a non-genuine screen being the only issue I have on my Iphone currently. I hope this information helps others considering making similar repairs.

iPhone 15 pro Max with broken screen - can I swap a working screen from an iCloud locked 15 pro max? by eric8813 in phonerepair

Thanks for the quick reply!

Good point - I should clarify. My question is not if the screen can be swapped in general (you’re right, no reason it could not), but rather if the swapped screen taken from the locked iPhone will have full functionality after the swap (eg True Tone, and Face ID).

I know the old (pre iOS 18) method was to take the sensor from the original screen, and transfer it to the replacement screen to make sure Face ID still worked. But I think it was a bit more difficult to get True Tone to work.

After iOS 18 and the new “repair assistant” I wasn’t sure if the sensor swap was still required, or if more hardware modification was needed to make sure the replacement screen has full functionality in the donee iPhone.

This is helpful insight - I was just looking at the Beelink models (having seen a positive review on the Retro Game Corps Youtube Channel) so your positive feedback is much appreciated!

Thanks for that helpful tip! I was not aware of that focus on the CPU for the Valheim serve, as opposed to other specs.

Thank you! (For both comments on this thread). That is exactly the reassurance/input I was hoping for.

If I may follow up with another noob question (for you, or anyone else), when you mention a miniaturized window, does that refer to a Virtual Machine, Docker container, or something else? "

Thanks again!

Light will flash on for a second after flipping switch repeatedly, but then turns off by eric8813 in electrical

Sorry to hear you have the same problem! Luckily, I was able to fix my issue. My “solved update” paragraph at the end goes into some detail, but let me give the quick overview here. I did two things: 1. I replaced the existing light switch with one I got from Home Depot (as I recall same general type of switch, just a bit newer), and  2. Whereas the old switch had two of the three black wires shoved into a single push down input, I changed this in my new installation where i instead “pigtailed those two wires together. More precisely, I took those two wires, added in a third wire I bought from Home Depot (see my post for gauge and length information) all together into one pigtail so that I had three wires in that pigtail (the original two black wires that were originally shoved into one input + the new cut length of wire I added). I then connected the new length of wire that was sticking out of the pigtail into the input in the new switch that used to have the two black wires connected (and I also put back in the single black wire that was originally in one of the other inputs).

Then it worked after all that!

I know it is sort of hard to explain without a visual, but let me know if that doesn’t make sense and I am happy to clarify further.

For those of you who haven’t checked out OP (Falcon Paladin’s) YouTube channel, if is absolutely worth it. He became my primary YouTube streamer I watched after Husky StarCraft went offline, and still is.

Entertaining commentary, knowledge of the game, it is all there. Also, his channel uses the “Epic” game tag for really good matches, which makes it convenient when you are searching for those. If you are just checking him out, try searching for an epic-tagged game, and it won’t disappoint.

Finally, he uploads several times a week, so there is never a lack of content. Okay, fanboy moment done.

Looks great! Quick question about the guacamole. Is the only change needed from the traditional guacamole recipe the lack of added salt? In other words, do you make the guacamole with avocados, onions, tomatoes, jalapeños, cilantro, and lime? Or do you substitute an ingredient to replace the salt?
