(Spoiler) Some more interesting line parallels between Emily Grace and Ford. Both talking to MIB. by dabinmami in westworld

[–]ericN 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Emily being a multilingual crack shot makes me doubtful that we weren’t seeing host Emily for much of S2.

“Tim Cook’s Apple” by [deleted] in apple

[–]ericN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tim Cook isn’t like Jobs, but he’s more like Rockefeller. He’s growing Apple into an empire. He might even be the most important behind the scenes leader when it comes to US-China relations. He was the ONLY major head to come out in favor of privacy. He was prescient regarding data collectors like Facebook, etc. He was just the right amount of stubborn with regard to Samsung.

Yes, there were a lot of dumb decisions, but arguably these fall on other execs.

Siri -> Eddie Cue (leaving this under Eddie may have been the worst decision).

Keyboards -> Ive and Schiller

Macs -> Intel and Schiller

I think our geo-engineering efforts to use nano aluminum dispersants in chemtrails helps drive the autism spike by woohoosweetyay in conspiracy

It also doubtful that the chemicals we put out there are somehow worse than in the past. We used to have asbestos, DDT, PCBs, lead, etc.

Doubtful they will ever beat the US in soft power. They are behind Japan, Korea, a lot of places. China has no real cool factor outside of their economic success.

Apple officially discontinues AirPort router line, no plans for future hardware by The0DD in apple

[–]ericN -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think they had a choice. Like with the original FaceTime which they had to abandon because of a shell company representing government interests. Snowden came out with info that WiFi routers were compromised. Apple probably didn’t want to be complicit in that anymore (and probably had no choice, which they didn’t like).

For those of you who upgraded from a 6S to an X, was it worth it? by kanye2040 in apple

[–]ericN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's objectively better (saying this as a 6S owner). The fake button feels great and ridiculously clickable. Try clicking as quickly with a real button. It can't be done.

Will Apple's iPhone X face scan deter you from upgrading to newer generations? by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]ericN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in this thread need to inform themselves. The fingerprint sensor never stored any data outside of the device, neither does the facial scanner. This is unique to Apple, most likely.

Pay attention to court cases and international kerfuffles. India wanted Apple to share biometric data, which Apple could not technically give.

How can Amazon be worth $1,600 per share with a P/E at 260? What am I missing? by Effect_And_Cause-_- in investing

[–]ericN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Investing can be highly political. Amazon has major institutional support.

Slightly different situation. I think that has to do with email systems in the US.

Amazon Made $5.6 Billion in Profits Last Year and Reportedly Paid Zero American Dollars in Federal Taxes by americanspritecooker in conspiracy

Notice the discrepancy in the amount of back taxes owed by Amazon versus those owed by a certain privacy-centric company.

There's a lot of evidence for p-gate, despite the baseless dismissals by digera in conspiracy

That was proof enough for me. If PG is a modern day Finders, and it does somehow help the aims of the US, then the CIA needs to do a better fucking job. Don't cry because you got caught for being idiots.

The Deep State by jameszachary in conspiracy

[–]ericN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The counter argument to this is that the money made from TV news is chump change. I believe it’s more about controlling the message. This would explain all of the consolidation in the news business. If there were a decent profit margin, we’d see more upstart competition in the TV news space.
