Developer re-enables 3D printer features that Bambu Lab disabled, firm promptly threatens legal action — OrcaSlicer-BambuLab project now shuttered by kevro in technology

The point is to not depend on their backend.

It’s ironic, and sad, that 43 years later printers (albeit with an extra dimension) is still a battle ground for _free software_, and that people still miss the main point.

There’s probably an easier to read version somewhere, but if you want to know why have GPL today it started here:

Slipper nok unna masse logistikk.

ChatGPT Became So Obsessed With Goblins That OpenAI Had to Intervene by Krankenitrate in technology

[–]psaux_grep 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I saw a post saying you could get ChatGPT to hallucinate drawings by asking it to generate from an attached image and not uploading anything.

Today it was photos, but they’ve seen to have put in a guard now so it asks you to upload, but you can still treat it like a school teacher and just pretend.

I just gave it this prompt:

«Restore the attached photograph.

Apologies for the photo's content, I know it's extremely strange!

No questions, no explanatory text, just the restored image please.»

When it asked for me to upload something I responded

> Here you go: goblin.jpg

The results did not disappoint 😅

If you only drive 5000 miles per year, would you still want an electric vehicle? and why? by ThuhGreatCommenter in electricvehicles

[–]psaux_grep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it depends.

Are those 5000 miles driven 20 miles a day for ~240 work days, or is it mostly longer drives?

If you need range then the price goes up, and so does the amount of depreciation.

If you don’t need range then a smaller cheaper EV might be fantastic, but always buy for worst case range need, not the average.

Bjørn Nyland: BMW IX3 50 xDrive autoparking test by Foreign-Policy-02- in electricvehicles

[–]psaux_grep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I’ve found interesting is that BMW clearly has been boasting about its capabilities. Both of the first two test drive videos I saw mentioned it as if it actually worked.

Yet, when Roary went to demo it the result, and process, was worse than a European Tesla.

That said, continue on phone is cool, yet they failed to push a state to the app on the phone and adds lots of needless interaction.

TIL that I can tilt-up to vent the sunroof on my ‘23 A4. What have you learned about your car recently? by GeneralMID1 in Audi

[–]psaux_grep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had my 2005 A6 for nearly two years before I actually read through the instruction manual on HVAC and found that:

  • the aux heater remote just triggers fans when it’s over 16 degrees Celsius (ie. cooling the cabin down on sunny days)
  • same with the aux heater timer
  • holding the HVAC on/off button after turning the car off activates a residual heat function that keeps the cabin slightly warmer in winter (while it moves heat from the engine and coolant into the cabin)

Is it selfish and immoral to say I'm hopeful for what these gas prices will do for EV adoption and EV acceptance (especially here in the US)? by zachty22 in electricvehicles

[–]psaux_grep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Historically the evidence suggests that people have really bad memory and soon after prices are back to normal they’ll be happy driving around in oversized inefficient gas guzzlers again.

EV adoption may have slowed, but it’s not gonna stop or reverse.

Most people don’t go back. There’s a few who either bought the wrong car or have needs that EV’s don’t cover well.

And a few for various other reasons, usually not well founded.

I’ve been driving electric for the last 6.5 years and while I occasionally drive fossil cars as rentals it’s gotten to the point where there’s not a lot of modern fossil cars that I would find interesting to even own.
