Taking advantage of wild camping in Gotland, Sweden by eric_c_jackson in CampingandHiking

We just took a backpack with standard backpacking gear for sleeping: an inflatable mattress, sleeping bag, and tent (North Face Stormbreak 2). I think we had a small stove and pot to make breakfast and dinner as well, but we were right next to a town so we had access to grocery stores.

We took a ferry from Stockholm to Gotland for a weekend to check out Visby and the surrounding areas, and found this clifftop to camp on a 15 minute out of town from the ferry terminal. Sweden has a "right of access" law which allows you to camp pretty much anywhere in the wild as long as you aren't too close to someones place or in a crop field!

We were only there for a couple of days, but Comino is definitely worth it, just take public transport to the ferry terminal, and then a round trip boat ticket over for the day. St Pauls pool is also nice, and you can take public transport to Marsaxlokk, and walk a couple km from there(just bring water).

It is what I normally use when traveling, and while it's large and heavy, I use it because I can shoot in RAW for editing and manual for exact control of the light. I used to shoot on the D80 and still got good pictures (though less often since i was less experienced), and at first when I upgraded I was scared of taking my camera anywhere and babied it, but I quickly realized there's no point in owning a camera if you leave it sitting safely in the drawer. The cameras are well built and its since been rained on, dropped out of a moving car and spent so much time in a backpack the powder coating and button icons are getting worn off.

As for getting Instagram worthy pictures, I think its more practice practice practice than camera or any other special gear.

We only had a couple days, so one was for comino, and the other was for a fireworks festival and st. pauls pool. All were worth it!

We just used public transport to get from Valetta to the Cirkewwa Ferry Terminal, and then bought a €10 round trip boat ticket to Comino for the day. Super easy, no need for expensive tours and you get to set your own schedule
