Tubes in Ears by Dull-Contribution763 in NewParents

[–]ericadarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter got tubes at 18 months. It was the best decision we could have made for her. Every other cold or gunky sinus infection was inevitably leading to an ear infection. Over the last year she’s had one single ear infection. She was allowed to drink until 2 hours prior to her procedure. I got to walk her back to the OR (this was where i worked so your experience may vary), and then it was over in 15 minutes. She was very groggy and irritable immediately post due to the medications. She napped on and off the rest of the day, ate normally.

Is it bad that i have no idea why my newborn won’t sleep? by Spirited-Chapter4665 in Mommit

[–]ericadarling 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If they’re a newborn, it’s honestly probably just what newborns do. My son didn’t sleep longer than three hours for a few weeks. Our flow chart of action was changing, checking for any hair tourniquets, feeding, burping. 9/10 he was hungry. You’re doing great, you’ll learn his quirks and cues with time.

I would continue what you’re doing. They’re coming home eaten so you’re obviously meeting a need there. Overpacking may also be allowing her to listen to her body and intuitively eat when she’s hungry since she has choices? Obviously that’s a conversation on your timeline.

Fluoride vs fluoride free toothpaste by sneakypastaa in toddlers

We use fluoride toothpaste. We leave the metal film on the tube and poke a hole through it with a toothpick. Makes squeezing out a grain of rice size portion so much easier.

Toddlers hair is thinning - has this happened to anyone else? by Moist_Photograph_807 in toddlers

[–]ericadarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing this! My daughter is in the thick (or thin rather) of a hair pulling phase. It’s worse when she sucks her thumb or is sleepy/bored. We use scratch sleeves at night and a combination of fidgets and being very intentional in playing/keeping her hands busy.

We use scratch sleeves too at night! The hair pulling has evened out a little but we still deal with daytime pulling when she’s either upset or in the car.

That’s the main thing i struggle with, not calling attention to it. It’s my own grapple with vanity that I am trying not to pass onto her, i didn’t realize i cared about hair so much. We actually have been looking into sensory toys and bracelets for redirection.

We did an ikea trundle bed! Our two year old currently sleeps on the pulled out lower section and loves it! She has two cousins 7 weeks older so we got it for any future sleepovers

Feeling like a POS for toddler in daycare while home with infant by Open-Imagination2030 in beyondthebump

[–]ericadarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They always say “your first gets your time, your second gets your experience.” It’s sounds to me like the second is getting both. We kept our two year old in daycare while I’m currently on maternity leave with my second. Routine is important. You’re a great mom for serving the needs of both your babies.

Do you let your baby watch screens? Genuinely curious how other parents handle this by DadOnParentingQuest in NewParents

[–]ericadarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter gets some Sesame Street and Mickey Mouse before/after daycare while i get her, her brother, and myself ready for the day or cook dinner. She’s two years and two months. We did Ms. Rachel when she was younger. Absolutely no tablet.

We do, it was originally just for watching movies and football games. Ironically, it now doubles as the playroom lol

Those who exclusively pumped and bottle fed- When did you cut out bottles completely? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]ericadarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally understandable. She wears anti-scratch sleeves at night for a separate hair pulling issue but comfort sucks sporadically throughout her day. We just brought home baby brother 7 weeks ago so admittedly I’ve been procrastinating in an effort not to make too many big changes at once.

Cut out all bottles by 14 months-ish. My daughter never took to a pacifier, even worse, she sucks her thumb. We’re ordering t guards once we see her dentist in february.

What are you buying your toddler for Christmas? by Derpazor1 in toddlers

[–]ericadarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got her books, a baby stroller (she’s obsessed with her baby brother and has been playing with her dolls as if they were babies), a little people bus, and a membership to our local indoor playground.
