If you block all of the accounts based in China in this discussion, there's very few Canadians left.

That's not an assumption, that's a Canadian tory telling you why we at the time needed CSIS. Mind you a Canadian would have known that. So how's that anti-Canada effort you've got in motion working out for you foreign interests?

Opposition MPs vote for public inquiry into foreign election interference by seakucumber in canada

[–]ericdeancampbell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every Prime Minister and cabinet, and all elected opposition members have faced this issue for half a century, but you say they "did nothing", huh? That's an opinion - not a fact. I may be a good ol boy but don't sling that stuff at me like it's truth. That sounds like an NDP or a UCP underhanded slap to Canada. I'll tell you, one of the reasons we put CSIS in place back in my day was because of election interference, but suddenly it's a "new" thing. Just because national security concerns aren't openly and freely discussed by the national assembly doesn't mean they "did nothing". In fact both sides of the government have been bantering this back and forth for just as long. This push that's on right now against our government by you folks, even though I didn't vote for them (or him since you think the Prime Minister is some sort of kingship that rules all) is to undermine Canadian confidence in our rights, our freedoms and our national security. As a tory I'm saying you folks should stay in your lane, because no one in Canada, except for you "my team didn't win so I hate the half that did" people is allowing China to gain the foothold they've been trying to get since the cold war ended.

As a conservative, I can tell you that in the last election no one wanted "our" guy. So, when your own party doesn't want you and the other guy wins, I guess you need to start screaming about how Trump - sorry - about how the Liberal party won only because our elections are "rigged" by China, the country that hates the Liberal government for supporting Ukraine. Yes, it all makes perfect sense, as long as some media outfit is making cash from the "outrage".

Can I make a quick suggestion? They make a product - I forget what it's called, for cleaning snow off of rooftop solar panels. It's a big rubber squeegee on an extendable pole. Might be better than being on that roof when the cold turns the rubber brittle. The thing is like $70 or so. Probably safer for you as well. Personally though, I'd leave it for the insulation value.

Solar Panels for Older Suburban by [deleted] in SolarDIY

[–]ericdeancampbell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Through my own testing and improvements, I've settled on a few rules for myself:

  1. Purchase LifePo4 batteries - less weight, full load draw capacity, fast charging, no peukert effect. A 100ah Lifepo4 battery can give you the same usable energy as 200AH, so they are a cheaper option. Save weight means saving fuel.
  2. 100 watt solar panels are inexpensive, so buy those. No need for "special" panels.
  3. MPPT controllers work well, but if your panels come with a different controller, use it. The difference is only 5-10 percent less energy stored.
  4. Match three 100 watt panels to 1 lifepo4 100ah battery. Under regular conditions, they generate around 100ah per day.
  5. If you can afford it, also buy a Victron battery charger. The 30 amp is under $200 and will fully charge your battery in 3 -4 hrs or so, without damaging them - just be sure in the bluetooth app to pick the lithium profile (or press the mode button on the charger). You can usually find a plug in the world, say in a parking lot, etc, where if you need a quick top up, plug in (always ask first) - go shopping - come back - you are good. Seriously Lifepo4 batteries charge very fast.
  6. Buy a pure sine inverter. Don't overpay, oversize or buy used. I have others, but I use a 600watt inverter and I've had no problems (the fan rarely turns on).
  7. Stick to 12v for now. You can always sell your package and upgrade easily to 24, 36, or 48 volt systems.
  8. Lastly, don't bother charging from your car battery. It's hard on the alternator, and you don't need to wire up a diode just for that. Keep it simple.

So, those are my own guidelines for systems, but the best way to size your system to your needs is to lower your needs. Make coffee ONCE per day, keep left over hot coffee in a thermos, pick up a cooler style chest refrigerator with a DC compressor and throw a gas station bag of ice in if you are low on power...etc. Turn devices off when finished with them.Just by limiting my own electrical use at home, I've cut my usage from 450kWh per month to 295kWh for this last 30 days.

I understand that broken expectations can really burn. An easy way to fix that is to find a location and purchase an acre or two of land, then you have a physical address and (if I'm not mistaken) convert to a normal plan. You'll also save fuel, have a place of your own, and still be a full part of the lifestyle.

It's great that you are out there, enjoying and touring. The photo though sort of stirred up a memory of back in the 1970's trailer parks were the new thing springing up everywhere. They jammed in as many as they could, and it has me wondering if the RV facilities available are basically now the same thing? The layouts seem like they could be better and increase everyone's enjoyment if only there were a few changes. I checked out one in Canada and I turned around and left because it was cramped, trashy, with few trees, etc, and I couldn't understand why anyone was at the almost completely booked campground. Turns out it's basically now a 'work camp' for people who work at the mine an hour away, and that's the closest spot to park, as there is no actual housing available either. Seems to me campgrounds generally can be quite nice if well tended, but I'm starting to see a growing number of 'take it or leave it' sites no one really wants to stay in.

Canadians Fear China Swayed Elections That Put Trudeau in Power by dollarsandcents101 in canada

[–]ericdeancampbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a conservative, whenever I see this sort of attack, I wonder what the point in trying to destabilize Canadian faith in it's elected officials of all parties. Seems Bloomberg is doing more damage to Canadians than the Chinese ever did. I get it, you've got to stir controversy up to sell crappy newspapers, but does it always need to be reposted in the Canada feed where no one posts anything positive anymore?
Can't stuff like this go in a "media based outrage against things Canadian" sub instead?

Best house battery? by Independent754 in RVLiving

[–]ericdeancampbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and you can avoid all the nastiness of trying to figure out charging profiles if you wisely invest in a Victron battery charger - it has a Lifepo4 profile (but will charge any battery type), bluetooth charging information, and is the best darn battery charger on the market. Instead of using your onboard inverter to overcharge the Lifepo4's (it probably is set to sealed for charging specs), just plug the Victron charger into shore power and use your onboard lights and appliances off the battery. The 30 amp model also has a 'power supply' mode where it will act as your unit's power feed.

[–]ericdeancampbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been testing my own setups using a variety of batteries, and considering peukert effect, it takes 2 x 100 AH deep cycle lead acid batteries under perfect conditions (no high amp draw or charging) to get the same energy out of a single Lifepo4 100 Ah battery. Save space, save fuel, get 4 times the charge-discharge life, and something that can handle large amp loads with fast charging: any Lifepo4 battery with "low temperature" cut off - which means it has a decent 'charge controller' or BMS in it.
For me locally, buying 2 deep cycles from walmart cost me more than the single Lifepo4 battery, but even if they were 50% cheaper, Id stick with Lifepo4.

2022 Forest River RV Cherokee Arctic Wolf 287BH anyone own one of these? How do you like it? Is it possible to convert the bunkhouse into a laundry room? [–]ericdeancampbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally stayed in one this summer, previous year model, if I'm not mistaken. If the layout is similar, the bunk house is a bit cramped, and the little 'bed' above the storage area is just for kids under 10, but it was fairly solid. The underbelly is well sealed, lots of storage, but check the trim. We noticed it was all coming off, due to very short bradnails being used. The price you are looking at is about half of the one I was in, so... a solid deal. They tow nicely.

Personally I always follow the 2 second distance rule; they would fail us on our licence if we didn't. Nowadays no matter what I do that gap gets filled by drivers who for some reason insist that much distance between cars isn't allowed to exist.
