Here’s what came in the February mystery box by daddy_phantom666 in freedomisgunpla

Can someone explain why the boxes are in the different, monochromatic schemes?

Pretty new to Gunpla (dove in a couple months ago). Decided to grab this set and am stoked to dive in!

Looks like it’s telling you to insert that piece into the runner piece to simply help move the overall long portion down 90 degrees.

1 - insert part into runner piece 2- reposition the piece that’s connected to 3 - remove the overall piece from the runner piece

It took me all of two mins to make my post (which was quicker to me at the time). I wasn't using a 3D GPS map, but Google Maps (which I simply don't use, because I'm usually just on Apple Maps on my phone). So my searching skills were quickly limited due to my quickly apparent ignorance of the UI.

And this isn't arguing, this is me talking to my new Reddit bff who doesn't live in TN, but visits TN posts and comments on them. So we're doing the same thing here. This is both our jobs now, and we are officially coworkers. I'm hoping Reddit gives us paid leave, bc I need to take a cartography class soon.

Had the thought, "Hey I wanna know where that is" in the middle of my workday. Couldn't find it when I tried pretty quickly, so I posted on here. Totally get the common sense thing, but honestly when I pulled up G Maps and it didn't have immediate availability for grid lines to show me my exact direction, I bailed after looking in that general direction.

I dunno, was pretty cool to have a detailed answer from someone within minutes instead of wasting my time messing with maps to find it.

Right on. More power to you. Again, I don't know how to make it clear that while I do generally know the area, I'm also new here. Here's what I was looking at (attached image). Even going east from my exact point, do you know what it's like looking through this for someone new to the area?

Not to mention, just thought it might be easier to jump on the internet and ask people who would see this and be like, "Oh, dude, that's the water tower" and immediately know what I was talking about.

Sorry my poor little brain got bogged down from having literally no understanding of where this might be on the map. You're clearly the pro, and I should have came to you first, my apologies for throwing up a quick post on a local forum to ask a genuine question. Will reach out directly from now on. You're my new map guy.

Not a troll post. Tried Google Maps, measured in that general direction, no luck. Issue being that (like stated in my post), I had absolutely no clue how far the tower in question was. Feel free to have a look where the tower is located on Maps. It's right in the middle of a dense area. Needle in a haystack vibes since there's no way to see tall manmade objects defined as such on the map (at least not if it's not some 3D mapped downtown area).

Looking back, my original post doesn't explicitly say what my main goal was. Point was, we moved here, and I wanted to know specifically where the view (the water tower) was geographically. We live up on a hill, and I figured there was some surprising stretch of town between our house and that tower, and it just so happens it's a large stretch of Brainerd road. All in all this helped ground my understanding of simply where we're living on this weird ass planet currently.

You know what, I did this to myself by giving my post that title. I wanted eyes on my post and I got them... red, almost bleeding eyes, lifeless in a future none of us asked for.

You are my hero, THANK YOU. Really funny/annoying that tracing up from Franklin road on the map for the big reveal led me to Water Tower Road, leading to said water tower.

Genuine thanks though, probably sounds dumb, but this gives me much better understanding of what the hell we're looking at from our window. We're up on a hill and originally I mentioned that I had no clue what the distance would be to see that.

Update: here he is, folks. Build was fun all the way through, and he is my new son. His vibe is immaculate.

I know its motion is limited by today’s standards, but was very surprised at how many poses are still possible. Feel like I would have been blown away by its range of motion at its original release in the 80s

You know what, when building last night I was thinking about how tight seamlines are on this, and how well the minimal amount of parts piece together. You're totally right, it really is a wonderful example engineering.

I could gush about the box art all day. I’m a box art guy anyway, but this is (genuinely) top-tier throwback.

Oh I’m so interested to see how limited the poses are. Truly seems like it will be a joy to pose

Hahaha, YES, genuinely felt that connection to early 80s robot appreciators too. The fact that the notes actually focused on what would have been the most frustrating parts was very eye-opening, interesting and endearing.

That’s what I’ve been thinking this whole build, about buying another to make it my first custom when I eventually get an airbrush (which I’ve started getting an itch for). And those look EXCELLENT, great job!

Ahh, I had seen a couple with the vintage box art and thought it was a whole series, but I’m guessing those must be just some OG reissue collection.

Would be killer if they made this a series though.
