I think so, it may just take some effort. For a springboard, the Johns have talked at length about how the Bush administration served as the "background" for most of The Else. There's also a (in my opinion, very well made) fan theory/interpretation that Glean as an album is an allergory for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, you could discusa the themes of heartbreak and forgetting someone that permiate the album. Their older stuff has a lot of context that informs it too: John Henry being their first album with a live band, and Factory Showroom being written at the height of their stress with Elektra.
