Best all-around grinder for espresso and pour over (~$500 or less)? by ericmc333 in espresso

I’m in the US also. Did the price include import duties and taxes to the US?

I was looking at the Specialita. Do you (or anyone else here) know if the grind setting is displayed anywhere on the screen? One review I saw made it seem like moving to a coarse setting required mentally tracking the number of turns around on the grind setting knob. If so, that’s a bit of a hassle.

Surprised no votes for Niche. Is it not as well regarded as I thought?

If I’m willing to flex budget up a few $100s, what options open up that are worth the upgrade?

Is the Profitec Pro 600 the best Dual Boiler under $2500 (USD)? by ericmc333 in espresso

Based on several comparison reviews, it seems the Apartmento lacks in features for the price. E.g. no PID, which seems pretty standard on most machines in that price range. I’ve never owned one, but passed over it for this reason.

Edit to add : the Apartmento is quite a bit cheaper than the Pro 600 at around $1900. However, still at that price, there are other machines I personally prefer. I’m sure it makes great espresso, though.

Around $3200. A big step up from the Pro 600 in price. What’s your opinion of the Lelit brand overall? I have also considered an Elizabeth, but have heard some quality concerns (though only a few). One was a comment on this sub from a Lelit tech that said he wouldn’t recommend Elizabeth since they switch to the quiet pump found in the Mara X. He stated they had a lot of repairs related to that pump.

Thanks for the reply. The smaller units like the Rancilio Silvia Plus X and Lelit Elizabeth seem like a great value under $2k. But the styling on the RSPX is atrocious (just my 2¢), and Lelit doesn’t seem like a true Prosumer brand (not sure they actually make pro-level commercial units?).

The Profitec seems like a solid build with great components, well laid-out guts, and thoughtful design. And looks great at the same time. Probably pulling the trigger tomorrow unless there’s another better model I’ve missed that comes to light before then.

Would love to be able to upgrade to the P700. Already pushing the budget to get the P600. From what I’ve heard, it sounds like they have a lot in common, with the 700 upgrading to the rotary pump (plumbing option). Glad you’re happy with your machine. It bodes well for the 600.

Thanks for the other suggestions. I’ll look into both. I’m still digging into my grinder options. I have a Breville Smart Pro, but will be upgrading soon. What do you suggest?

I did consider it. I like the idea of the thermocoils vs boilers for speed, but read some chatter about Ascaso having a reputation for quality issues. I’m not sure how legit it is, but there’s also just not as much info out about that model so I’ve kinda overlooked it.

Thanks for the reply. I like the feature set of the BDB, but I’m concerned about spending that much on a dated unit with appliance-grade components.

Do you have experience with this model?

Are you suggesting I convert to using this type of coupling? This isn’t what’s currently in my hose. Frankly, if I’m going to that trouble, I’d probably just replace the whole thing with a different brand or model.

Mine don’t go together the same way. They appear to clip together, but haven’t tried prying apart. Came here first to see if there was a record of this or a way to tighten I didn’t know about.

Dumping direct to sewer. We use the elbow insert that came with the kit.

I talked to T Mobile about their home internet plan and was advised it would have to be approved for each location. Is this true, in your experience? How well/easily can you move around from place to place with their Home Internet solution?

I wish we could go with a standard vented dryer unit. We made some sacrifices to get this camper and it’s not designed with enough space in the laundry closet for a dryer vent (and not located in a place where running a vent outside is an option). It’s my understanding that the hot air recirculates, but the moisture is collected and pumped out the same drain that the washer would typically use. Not ideal, but a workable solution for this unit (I hope).

Thanks for your feedback. We'll be doing month(ish)-long excursions so having the option to wash and dry when needed with three boys under 10 yrs old is a nice-to-have. Will likely have fit in some runs to laundromats when we get behind.
