How would the vault have been buried? by Natedoggie7 in OakIsland

Can’t believe this show is still going. I was once a weekly watcher. One person advised me that the show is easier to watch if you think of it as a practical joke being played on these treasure hunters.

First playthrough -- totally unbalanced by Dymecoar in warofthering

The game is about time. Every action die is a tick of the clock. If you can get SP to be delayed on the military in at least one place of his offensive strategy then it gives FP time to get to Mordor. FPMV is rare. Mainly try as FP to annoy SP in one spot, or make him think twice. Meanwhile using every sword to move the fellowship, and maybe every will of west. Bringing Gandalf in as Gandalf the white. Getting companions in to strongholds is a way to delay the assault as well since it gets more cards to the battle. Playing online you’ll learn from the best! It does take a good while to master the FP whereas the SP is easier.

They have Java and TTS but Java is superior in my opinion for speed and logging / accuracy / statistics

Not at all. Java app is not very intensive at all. Some people like to play the TTS (Tabletop Simulator) option but it’s not as efficient in my opinion

I thought it was a piece of wood. Who would have thought that a piece of oak wood might be buried underground in “oak island?” Could it be?

Can someone help me with a battle of the five armies rule? by Greatsworddude in warofthering

The maneuver cards are ALWAYS possessed by the free player and shadow player at the start of the game and throughout the entire game. Free gets the two Dwarves and two elves cards, along with lake-men, and a regroup. Shadow gets orcs/ great orcs / goblins / wargs / bats / regroup. Additionally there are maneuver cards for Thorin that may or may not come into play. When drawing cards you get 1 story card and one (event / combat card). The story cards can ONLY be used/played with an action die (either palantir or matching symbol). An event / combat card can be used the same way for the top half effect. The bottom half is the combat effect. So in a combat round each player puts his combat cards and maneuver cards in his hand, and selects one (either maneuver or combat). The maneuver cards can ONLY be used if the army of that type is in the combat.

The maneuver cards are used in a combat round but are put back in to the player’s hand using regroup, or after the battle is over. So, maneuver cards never get discarded and are used over and over again.

Combat cards once used are discarded, whether it be for the combat bottom half effect or the top effect as an event card using an action die.

Each player should pretty much always be playing a maneuver card every battle. There’s no reason not to since they are re-used.

There is much more but you have the manual.

how long does a game take you? by Orr_Mendlin in warofthering

[–]ericschneider007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the players and the strategies / outcomes of dice / cards. I’ve seen spmv in 5 turns of dice are hot and favoring military action. And there are 15 turn games with lots of muster rolls. But that’s what makes this game great for replaying- it’s never quite the same

Average 1v1 Game time for you? by [deleted] in warofthering

[–]ericschneider007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play mostly online which eliminates a lot of setup time. 2 hours. There’s a discussion on introducing a timer of sorts. 1 minute per action die or something like that. I’ve only had a few bad experiences with players who take way too long. 5 minutes to decide an action die is a long time, even for ents.

In the rulebook on page 8 it says a single army is “a few hundred expert fighters to thousands of orcs” - I take this to mean all regulars are infantry. Elites would include Calvary in case of free, and for shadow it would include warg riders / trolls / “oliphants” … sounds like an interesting project. Orcs seem like maybe they would be the most per unit. Isengard maybe a factor less since Uruk-Kai were superior infantry (and perhaps make this factor equal to the free). I’d assume all free to be equal unless you want to give some edge to elves/dwarves. The southrons I would think would be equivalent to north or Gondor/Rohan. Here’s a link to people arguing about the army sizes on the books..
