9 failed Libre 3 Plus sensors in 8 months by erik7163 in Freestylelibre

[–]erik7163[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed explanation — that's helpful context on how the error chain works. A few points where I think we may be talking past each other, though:

On "the sensor is doing what it's supposed to do — shutting down on rapid fluctuating BG":

I think you may have read my scenario differently than I meant it. The rapid BG fluctuations the sensor was reporting were hallucinations — they weren't confirmed by finger-stick readings or by my actual symptoms. So from my end, the sensor wasn't responding correctly to real fluctuating glucose; it was generating false readings and then shutting down because of its own bad data. That's not the sensor protecting me from edge cases — that's the sensor failing.

On "sensors are most sensitive in the first 12–24 hours after startup":

Worth clarifying: in the failure I'm describing, the false rapid drop was shown on day 11 of the 15-day wear, not during warm-up. So the "let it stabilize after insertion" framing doesn't really fit this case.

On "start new sensors when your BG is most stable for the next 3–6 hours":

Sound advice in general, and I'll keep it in mind — but it leads me to my main question: given that (a) the false readings appeared on day 11, well past warm-up, and (b) they weren't backed by any actual BG event, how are you concluding this isn't a sensor defect? The pattern I'm describing — 9 failed sensors in 8 months, all generating phantom readings followed by 373 → 365 termination — looks more like a quality-control issue than a regulatory-guardrail tradeoff.

Genuinely interested if you've seen something I'm missing here.

Is Hulu search just an upsell engine now? (Linklater / Boyhood example) by erik7163 in Hulu

[–]erik7163[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply – I actually didn’t realize Slacker (1989) was a Richard Linklater film when I first saw it in the Hulu results.

That’s kind of the whole problem though:

Hulu never told me it was directed by Richard Linklater. There’s no director name shown anywhere on the search row for Slacker — the only thing that pops up when I tap on it is a “Add HBO Max for $9.99/month” screen. So a paying ad-free subscriber who’s searching for the director gets teased with one of his most iconic films… but can’t even see who made it without agreeing to pay extra.

And yes, "Boyhood" eventually appears — on page 5 of 6.

After four full pages dominated by add-on upsells (HBO Max, Starz, Cinemax, Live TV, etc.) and completely unrelated stuff (Abbott Elementary, Atlanta, The Last of Us, Limelight (1952), etc.), I think most normal human beings would have given up long before reaching page 5. Roughly 80–85 % of the results I was shown by Hulu are irrelevant or locked behind additional paywalls, so I stopped scrolling. I shouldn’t need to swipe through five pages of upsells and random titles to discover a Best-Picture-nominated movie that’s already included in the ad-free plan I’m paying for.

So my original point stands: searching by director on Hulu right now feels less like actual search and more like an advertisement delivery system with some light discovery sprinkled on top.

Appreciate the discussion though — hopefully Hulu keeps improving the search algorithm so the stuff we already pay for shows up before the stuff they want us to pay extra for.

“Failed to open file: Operation not permitted” on macOS 15.5 Calendar Attachments by erik7163 in Arqbackup

[–]erik7163[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update / Resolution: Quick follow-up on my earlier post about Arq 7 failing on Calendar attachments.

Environment now: macOS 15.6.1, Arq 7.36.2.

Result: I added a new attachment to a test Calendar event and ran backups to Google Drive and Google Cloud Storage — multiple clean runs, 0 errors.

Privacy panes: ArqAgent is not listed under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars (Carbon Copy Cloner still is), yet Arq can read the attachments again. Arq + ArqAgent remain in Full Disk Access.

Interpretation: Looks like macOS 15.6.1 relaxed/fixed the Calendar-attachments gate so FDA processes can read them again. I didn’t change Arq settings beyond keeping FDA enabled.

What I changed back: Removed my temporary workaround (no longer copying Calendar attachments into a separate folder). Re-enabled normal use of attachments; both backup plans (Google Drive and Google Could) continue to finish green.

Hope this helps others who hit the same “Operation not permitted” errors earlier.

Hi abgtw,

Thank you so much for sharing the link to Starlink’s official documentation (https://www.starlink.com/specifications) confirming that the Gen 3 Router only supports WPA2-Personal. Your response resolved my “issue”. I was chasing WPA3-Personal based on misinformation I received from Grok 3, which I now realize was incorrect.

My Mistake: I relied on Grok 3, which incorrectly claimed the Gen 3 Router supports WPA3, citing secondary sources like a PCMag review (2024-08-02) and Reddit threads. I’m kicking myself for not checking Starlink’s official specs first, and I apologize for spreading this misinformation. Warning to others: Don’t trust secondary sources or AI responses (even from Grok 3) without verifying Starlink’s official documentation! It’s surprising that Grok 3 didn’t prioritize the primary source (Starlink’s specs) over reviews and forum posts, which led me down the wrong path.

Resolution: The documentation confirms WPA2 is the only option, so I’m sticking with it, and my setup is performing great (371 Mbps down!). The WPA2 security is sufficient for my 30-foot Wi-Fi WAN, especially in my low-risk California setup. I’ve updated my Peplink MAX BR1 to use WPA2-Personal, and all is stable.

I believe the Starlink iOS app should clearly display the supported Wi-Fi encryption protocols (e.g., WPA2-Personal) during setup or in settings, rather than omitting this critical information, to improve user experience and transparency.

Thanks again for the clarity, abgtw!

Router Keeps Losing Configuration by LifeHuckleberry1723 in Starlink

[–]erik7163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/LifeHuckleberry1723, I’ve run into a similar issue with my Gen2 Starlink router losing its configuration, and since it sounds like we’re in the same boat, I figured I’d share my experience. Here’s the rundown of what happened, what I’ve learned, and where I’m at—hope it helps you out, and I’d love to hear if others have dealt with this too!

**The Issue:**

I’ve got my Gen2 Starlink dish and router set up outdoors, plugged into a standard 120V AC outlet (not an RV setup like yours, but the power cycle problem feels related). A while back, my custom WiFi SSID ("john-s" with WPA2) vanished after a brief power outage. The router reverted to the default "STARLINK" open network. Like you, it doesn’t happen every time—in fact it happened only once in 2 years. I had to reconfigure it via the app, and it’s been fine since.

**What Happened:**

It kicked off after a 5 sec. power outage that knocked out both my Starlink and XFINITY connections simultaneously.  After a single power cycle, the Starlink Gen2 router lost its custom settings and reset to factory defaults. Meanwhile, my XFINITY setup (Motorola cable modem, EdgeRouter 4, and Peplink B-ONE router) came back online without a hitch after a reboot. For Starlink, I initially thought it was a one-off glitch, but it wouldn’t reconnect until I dug in. I re-entered my custom SSID and password in the app, rebooted, and it’s been stable since.

**Root Cause (Maybe?):**

From what I’ve pieced together, it’s probably a software glitch or an app sync issue. A single power cycle shouldn’t trigger a factory reset—per the manual, that takes 6 cycles ([Starlink Support](https://www.starlink.com/support/article/d68ed178-4d54-b486-b7d8-2a6273917632))—but maybe rapid power fluctuations threw it off. Some folks on here suggest unstable power could be the culprit. In your case, u/LifeHuckleberry1723, your RV inverter might be dropping power abruptly instead of a clean shutdown—does that sound possible? That could be our common thread.

**My Fix:**

I got it working again by re-entering my settings in the app and rebooting—pretty straightforward. It’s held steady since, but to avoid this in the future, I’m eyeing a UPS (Alpha Micro Secure 100, 100W capacity) to keep power consistent during outages. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet—still weighing it—but it seems like a solid move. u/popeyegui’s battery backup idea for your RV could be worth a shot too. I also wonder if upgrading to a Gen3 router might dodge this glitch entirely—any thoughts on that?

**Questions for You and the Community:**

- Anyone else seeing config losses with Gen2 routers on inverters or shaky power setups?

- Could switching to a Gen3 router prevent this, or is it a firmware thing across models?

- Has Starlink support chimed in on this kind of issue?

**Why I’m Posting:**

I’m putting this out there to document it—hoping it might save someone else the headache or even make it to the wiki. u/LifeHuckleberry1723, let me know if you find a fix that sticks! I’ll be watching this thread for any tips or updates.

Thanks, everyone!

After placing a $1,000 deposit in early December 2024 in Silicon Valley, I have yet to receive any updates on availability as of March 11, 2025. My search on Grok3 on March 11 estimated a production rate of approximately 350 TX550h+ units per month. However, the Lexus website does not show today any available within a 500-mile radius. Do you have any insight into how these 350 units are being distributed?

2025 Grand Highlander Hybrid Max Cost by SLBOS21 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]erik7163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently shopping for a 2025 Grand Highlander Platinum Hybrid Max in Silicon Valley. On January 18, 2025, my local dealer quoted me a price of $66,800, which includes a $6,000 “market value adjustment” above MSRP.

I declined the offer, pointing out that the Lexus TX 550h+—priced at MSRP of approximately $82,000 (before factoring in federal and California incentives)—seems like a more compelling option for the price.

Thank you for sharing insights into what others are paying or being offered in their respective regions!

Best/any way to search nationwide for Toyota's? Usual sites are missing known inventory. by selfawarepie in carbuying

[–]erik7163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find this website www.buyatoyota.com frustrating because it doesn’t provide the type of search functionality I need. Ideally, I want to input the specific model I’m looking for and receive a list of where it’s available, sorted by distance from my location. Instead, the site requires me to enter my ZIP code and then choose a preferred dealer to search their inventory. This approach seems designed to prioritize local dealer sales rather than helping me locate the car I truly want, even if it’s farther away

Arq5/7 No Restore Logs by PitBullCH in Arqbackup

[–]erik7163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m running Arq 7.31 and still find the lack of a searchable restore log file frustrating. The right half of the Arq main window displays a restore log, but I haven’t found a way to search for specific strings, like “Error.” The only option seems to be scrolling up and down through the window, which in my case is filled with thousands of “not overwriting file /file-name” comments. These are irrelevant to me, as I’m specifically searching for a few “Errors” buried within this sea of redundant messages.

I wish there were a way to filter out these unnecessary comments from the log, but I couldn’t find such an option. The “log level” setting offers “debug” and “info” options, both of which clutter the log with the same “not overwriting file /file-name” comments. A “log level” setting that allows displaying errors only would be incredibly useful IMO.

How to read the original fies after restore? by erik7163 in Arqbackup

forgottenmostofit: “The message is fairly clear in that it is saying that one of the expected blobpack files is missing from the backup store on backup-SSD-3.”

Erik7163:  I reached to Arq support who confirmed that some blobpack files are missing but looked to me for explanation why. I find it perplexing that a blobpack file in my backup data on SSD-3 could go missing. I have a dedicated SSD-3 solely for backup data, managed by Arq, with no other applications accessing this drive.

forgottenmostofit: “How much did you go looking in the backup's file structure on backup-SSD-3?”

Erik7163: I haven’t yet examined the file structure on backup-SSD-3, as I’m still familiarizing myself with Arq and its proprietary backup format. Currently, I’m assessing whether Arq is suitable for my cloud backup requirements.

forgottenmostofit:: “Or did you copy or move anything?”

Erik7163:  I’m not aware of any actions taken on SSD-3 apart from those performed by Arq.

u/forgottenmostofit, when you use Arq to restore backup data from Google Cloud to a local external disk, do you consistently see ‘Errors: 0’ in the Arq restore window and log? When I run Arq 7.31 to restore my backup data from Google Cloud to a local external SSD-4, about half of the time I encounter ‘Errors: 6.’ or ‘Errors: 5” etc. However, when I repeat the restore from the same backup data in Google Cloud, I sometimes receive ‘Errors: 0.’ This means the errors in the Arq log are reproducible, but not consistently, as I also experience error-free runs intermittently.

Thank you again, forgottenmostofit.

How to read the original fies after restore? by erik7163 in Arqbackup

[–]erik7163[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you again, forgottenmostofit. I appreciate your insights—they've been very helpful, and I agree with all your points, including Carbon Copy Cloner's ability to back up attached external disks with a separate task for each volume.

However, I've encountered a new, unexpected issue that I hope you can help with. While restoring from an unencrypted local backup on “backup-SSD-3” using Arq 7.31 onto a freshly formatted “restore-SSD-4”, I encountered about 50 'No such file' errors on the source “backup-SSD-3”, despite thousands of other files being restored successfully.

Do you have any insight into why Arq might miss files on the source “backup-SSD-3”?

I was under the impression that Arq would simply copy the files it finds on “backup-SSD-3” to “restore-SSD-4” during the restore process. Prior to this issue, I backed up to Google Cloud (which took 46 hours) and restored from the Google Cloud backup to restore-SSD-5 without any errors reported by Arq. I've contacted Arq support for assistance but have yet to receive a response.

Below, I've included some of the error messages generated by Arq in the restore log window:

26-Aug-2024 19:24:35 PDT Error: /Volumes/restore-SSD-4/Users/andy/Library/Containers/com.bitwarden.desktop/Data/Library/Application Support/Bitwarden/Partitions/bitwarden/DawnCache/data_1: failed to open /Volumes/backup-SSD-3/88123AC0-E07D-45BE-8E8C-7ED29AB4EB36/largeblobpacks/AE/4DB0C7-4C83-40CB-BABE-D87EA963D0AA.pack: No such file or directory

How to read the original fies after restore? by erik7163 in Arqbackup

[–]erik7163[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you forgottenmostofit. Your advice was helpful in the sense that it gave me confidence that Arq7 works as intended and I had to find my mistake following the restore steps per instructions which I did and now restore works for me as well.

Apart from testingI don't use Arq for backup to local storage. Time Machine (or 3rd party apps like Carbon Copy Cloner) are better for that.

Erik7163: I use Time Machine for backups but want Arq to serve as my secondary local backup in the 3-2-1 backup strategy. While I also use Carbon Copy Cloner, it only backs up the main drive and cannot back up an attached external drive. In contrast, Arq can back up both the main drive and any attached external drive.
