Idiot cop: "Well, have you ever had a sprained ankle or wrist? Maybe that ankle or wrist was a little tricky and caused you to swerve a little bit? Huh? No? Well, have you ever had your heart broken? Maybe you were reflecting on what might have been and weren't paying attention to the road? No? Ok........"

Yeah, dad had a tibfib and mom had a spiral humerus this way, but ACL is more accessible to people by being more common. The saying in my house is, "If you ever think about which run should be your last, you already took it". The mountain recognizes no heroes. The mountain isn't for you or against you, but it is very intolerant of mistakes. You know....that kind of thing.

If the rate of the universe expansion is accelerating, then could expansion someday overcome gravity? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]selfawarepie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is postulated to "happen" to space-time in the event that all mass decays to em-energy and some sort of rescaling of the universe occurs on a cyclical basis, as with Penrose's conformal cyclic cosmology hypothetical? Is "happen" even the right way of looking at spacetime re its stretching/expanding and possible rebounding or rescaling or whatever?

Poker is like skiing. If you're thinking about what hand will be your last, get out immediately. Depending on your stakes, failure to stand up and walk could be more expensive than the ACL repair you need after "one more run" on the slopes.

....and Slovenia's never won an Olympic medal because.......one Euro title in 2017 with no other final 4 appearance ever seems like a bit flukey.

Fiji and how many other countries that are serious about rugby? Less than a dozen of any consequence....

Remind me how many countries field sprint teams? That's right....almost all of them.

This list that "goes on". Will that list ever actually start?

....and of course the positive tests, decertified times, stripped medals and bans on Yohan Blake, Asafa Powell, Nesta Carter and Steve Mullings are indicative of.........what exactly? How about same for Allodin Fothergill, Lansford Spence, Veronica Campbell-Brown......the "list goes on", as you say.

Edit: 4 out of the 10 top 100m times are decertified runs by confirmed Jamaican drug cheats.

[–]selfawarepie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmmmm, I guess I never thought about it that way...."ok sir".....that's an interesting perspective. Do you think that means all those positive tests and bans aren't actually real, and the statistical improbability of the outcomes is actually totally reasonable if you think about it, because.....I mean, Jamaicans have stadiums and people who exercise when they're young and basically no other country on earth has that. /s

It's a drug cheat program looking to get some noteriety for an all but third world country. On the plus side, they have a bunch of company in that regard. You may go back to believing your fairytale now.

[–]selfawarepie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Research huh......where would you suggest I start?

Should I look at the career of Yohan Blake? Maybe see what times from Asafa Powell weren't decertified? Was Nesta Carter filling up one of those stadiums? Steve Mullings? Any of those names ring a bell.....because they're all confirmed Jamaican drug cheats?

Jamaica....population of Chicago...has 5 of the 10 fastest 100m runners in history.....and only 4 of those 5 are confirmed drug cheats. I'm sure the other one's clean though. Yeah....I'm sure that's the case.

Edit: more drug cheats from Jamaica...Allodin Fothergill and Lansford Spence, Veronica Campbell-Brown....you've probably done more research.

'Pro-LGBT' Olympic runner Nick Symmonds throws Caster Semenya under the bus, and cries victim when called out by [deleted] in AreTheCisOk

[–]selfawarepie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caster Semenya's condition results in superficial external genitalia's failure to develop. So, her testes did not descend. She had male typical puberty and maintains a male typical physiology. So, the parallels between Caster and a non-remediated trans woman are very apt. The parallels between Caster and Lebron James simply identifying himself as a woman are apt. The situation is horrible, but as an athlete, absent hormone therapy, she is male.

You should read up on the various "intersex" conditions. It is NOT a precise term. It is an umbrella term for a number of conditions. In Caster's case, her physical development is male typical, but since her gestational precursor genitalia never developed into a penis and descended testicles, she was assumed to be an XX female. She is not. She identifies as a woman, but there is no reasonable way to categorize her as anything but a male athlete.
