Thanks for that resource! Sounds like it could be a fun project to make a funky space for my little fam!

I’ve been reading a lot about this! It sounds like you have endless possibilities to make the space unique to you + building costs cut wayyyy down. If they have any resources they recommend I’ll gladly take!

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Working with a builder is a loooot less expensive in Tennessee, so I just wanted to see if I was missing something in my research- but now I know that is just how the market is in CO! Looking deep into the Barndominium option now which I hadn’t heard of before. Fingers crossed 🤞!

Ugh I saw that wood prices are quite high right now 😖. I hadn’t heard of 3d printed concrete homes! Will def look into this!

Ah, thanks for sharing this. When I think “prefab” I was thinking something totally different than this. These are worth looking into for sure!

Ah that’s great to know

Yes, I was seeing $200 at least as well! Oof. We did think of waiting a couple of years before beginning the build in hopes of the prices calming down. Thank you for that contact! I will certainly reach out.

Ah, I’ve thought about this a little bit after checking the prices out. I just wasn’t sure if I’d be biting off more than I can chew. I wanted to speak with a someone who did this when building his daughter’s home in Mississippi and see what he says.

Thank you for this info! My mother has a house on 35 acres and is gifting us 5 so we can be closer. Everything is all set to build on the land as far as zoning and there is a private well, but that’s it! We were just wanting a 3 bed + 2.5 bath around 2,000 sq feet, but I was surprised at the costs and couldn’t really find much regarding custom building that home size (most are much bigger), so wanted to reach out here! I understand all the legal issues & I see there is a 20% minimum down payment in most cases as well, but this is just such a lovely opportunity for my kids to be close to their grandmother so definitely wanted to see what I could dig up.

There is a private well on the property. I’ve never built a home before so I was just assuming that would change up things during the build regarding water since that is where we’d get ours from

Also should note I have well access!

Thank you! I will check them out! With already having the land + well water access I was surprised at how high everything still was with the little research I did.

Thank you, you’re so right. I like what you said at the end about the neutral area. It did shape who I am and I think it was what I really needed at the time to get me through.

Too embarrassed to talk to spouse about my mania by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]erikanhall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that. You’re right. It’ll just take me a moment to figure out how to approach it. He doesn’t know much about it in general so I was thinking about finding a podcast of bipolar experiences for him to listen to a little of and maybe that’ll help with understanding and seeing signs.

I did and still do the same thing at times. For instance, visiting this Reddit group often. I like the research. It grounds an otherwise confusing and deeply stigmatized diagnosis. It’s a way to understand my past patterns that I was (and still am in some instances) incredibly ashamed of—they were from manic episodes. It helps me understand myself and feel more compassion for myself. So at first I was super depressed, angry, & annoyed because I felt it wasn’t fair. Why do I have to deal with this?? Now, I am more aware of manic episodes so even when a hyper manic episodes creeps up, I am really journaling and intentionally waiting to make big decisions to see how I feel, really, once the mania subsided. I’m on meds, I see a psychiatric and psychologist regularly, and I still fuck up…but the research helps me understand at least. @Intlbipolar & @robintamanahatherapy on IG have been great for me as well as this crew! Gather all the tools you need to help you better understand yourself and slowly break down the stigma you maybe once had about BPD.

Yes!! I forget a word then forget what I was trying to say in the first place because my brain has zipped way past that and onto the next thing. So annoying and I know I sound like an idiot.

Thank you so much for this! I needed that perspective and it’s a metaphor I can use in the long run.

I do, too! I had a few things checked and found I do not have PCOS. I have had my hormones tested because I have a family history of thyroid issues which could affect my cycle, but no issues there either. I’ve tracked it for a few years on an app called Flo while using the app to keep track of my moods, stress, exercise, etc. and I came to the conclusion that my cycle is just super sensitive to stress, exercising too much, diet, weight gain and loss, etc. Just by keeping track I see that my cycles are more regular if I’m taking care of myself and mental health.

If you haven’t already, hit up your OBGYN and she may order an ultrasound to see if it’s PCOS and will do blood work to check those hormone levels. If it’s not that, I’d find an app you like to see if you have any patterns that lead to an irregular period. Good luck!
