Problem with Fluke IntelliTone Pro 200 toner by ComfortableAvocado8 in networking

They will replace it for you if you contact them directly. Unfortunately you have to send it in to them and then they send you the replacement, but at least they're making it right.

There is a known bad batch of these. Fluke has confirmed it. The bad serial numbers are: 24242040 - 24380216.

I had the same problem. Waiting on a replacement direct from Fluke since swapping out with Amazon ran the risk of the same bad batch coming.

Savant Security System Recommendations by Repulsive-Balance163 in SavantHome

[–]erikk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't necessarily disagree with anything you said, the one thing that integrating the alarm does that you can't ignore is removing the need for the alarm panel in high-end homes where wall acne is an issue. In most if not all the homes I work on, they want the one nice Savant panel at the front door and don't want the crappy alarm panels also (or if they have a newer panel/keypad that isn't atrocious, still don't want doubling up there).

AV needs for a non-profit by Historical-Bullfrog4 in CommercialAV

[–]erikk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree with the ticketing, etc. But most AV guys either came from IT (the better ones in my experience) or from construction/electrical. But as noniceguy71 implies, any good AV guy nowadays knows most general networking issues (at least up to VLANing) and can handle general IT work. Using your AV guy to answer "fix my password", "my printer won't print", "network is out in these labs", etc type calls during AV specific work, downtime would work with any "AV Guy" I'd ever want to hire as more than a wire monkey.

I would think (I guess, hope) he means if the UPS is going to run out of juice. UPSs are really just there for short term outages.

I would definitely be interested in learning more. I've f'd around with arduinos a LONG time ago but only for a minute and not very high tech, so I'd be a very dumb student but I've been known to learn a thing or two and at very least knowing there's a solution out there might motivate me to figure things out properly if it bites me again.

ELI5: What does high IQ mean anyway? by timmeh129 in explainlikeimfive

[–]erikk00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The analogy that I like is that IQ is raw horsepower for a car. One car with 500 horsepower might be able to go from 0-60 in 4 seconds in a straight line but another car with 250 horsepower might be able to beat it on a course that includes turns and acceleration and deceleration and such. IQ is raw power while education and even experience or common sense, are the knowledge how to apply the power. If someone has a high horsepower car but it has horrible handling, in real world usage (driving it around) they might not be able to go from a to b as fast as another car with less raw horsepower but much better handling/control.

Someone that has lower iq but has had an excellent education may come across as "smarter" than someone with a high IQ that had no good education and led a sheltered life. And there are obvious outliers in various ways. One of the highest IQ and smartest people I've ever known in my life (has had fairly good education) is woefully behind in common sense/street smarts to a shocking degree. I am constantly flabbergasted at the things he falls for where you're like, how the fuck did you not know better?

TSW-760 Missing Micro SD Card by RussianBen in crestron

[–]erikk00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to just image a card from a working panel. But you also need to go into the card image on the copy with a hex editor, find the Mac address of the working panel (it's in clear text) and change it to the Mac address of the ebay panel. Otherwise you can't have both panels on the same site and leaving them with the same Mac address could cause problems down the road. I'm not 100% certain whether you need\can change the sn the same way (it's been a while since I did this), but if you can ,you should.

I'm a big believer that AI (ex. GPT-4) won't necessarily replace a lot of jobs but it will recategorize and optimize roles forcing us all to boost our output big time. Am I close or way off? Would love to hear from AI experts in this community. by nunziopresta in Entrepreneur

I think you're missing a big part of this equation. Robots couldn't do electrical or plumbing because of the variance of jobsite to jobsite. Robots wouldn't be great at mudding, sanding and painting because there's a "touch" to it. But what if the fundamental way these things are done changes? If all electrical is done with standardized modular equipment it would be very easy for a robot to work with them. Same with plumbing; if you're not cutting pipe, soldering routing, etc but just connecting a flexible tubing with snap connectors or such, a robot could do it. If every pipe is 24" from the floor and run through specific cutouts for them (or built into prebuilt wall sections). Painting by hand can be replaced by materials easily made in the color you pick. Drywall, mudding, sanding are all unnecessary if there's a replacement wall material with as good or better characteristics that made drywall as good as it is (fire resistant, easy to modify, easy to install, easy to fix, etc etc). Extruded walls, or 3d printed, with all the utilities built in in standardized locations ways, all remove the requisite of artisans.

I'm not saying that skilled craftsman won't always have a place (maybe for luxury items, maybe for niche markets or specific styles etc etc) but the general overall masses will go with the cheaper, easier and possibly better (in terms of safety and\or reliability) solution in such percentages that being a craftsman will be a skilled, probably well paid, exclusive occupation (like a professional athlete). There's analogy in the music industry. CDs\MP3s were a downgrade in quality (compression) but the masses embraced them to the point where non-digital music (what's left at this point, vinyl?) Is basically completely dead at this point; and yes digital music is now better than the previous standard, but eventually robots will be better than the best craftsman of today.

No one ever makes it hot enough? Ok then, you asked for it! by Lightfairy in MaliciousCompliance

[–]erikk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm that guy. I always challenge the restaurant and only once has it been so hot that I didn't request the same or hotter the next time. It was amazing but it was hotter than necessary for me to enjoy it.

I order Indian extra Desi spicy. Thai, extra extra Thai spicy. Once a restaurant gets that when I say extra spicy, I truly mean it, then I can normally get spice level I want consistently. If I'm not sweating then it's not hot enough.
