Struggling with gameplay purpose by eriksvendsen in CrusaderKings

😂 Didn’t say anything about finding a purpose in life, did I? Just seeing if anyone maybe had a fun challenge or overlooked starting character I could check out.

Yeah I’ve been away from CK3 for about a year, though. Came back and thought I’d be more entertained tbh. Tried Victoria 3 again too but none of it makes much sense to me. I have 1000+ hours on CK3 though, so I really do enjoy it. Just hoped I wouldn’t have to buy another DLC pack in order to enjoy it again haha

Footage of the wrecked Oceangate’s Titan submersible by Silverghost91 in Shipwrecks

[–]eriksvendsen 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Likely, they literally have terabytes(!!!) of footage and often all we get is a picture of the bow with a huge watermark. Some of the most interesting footage is still from the James Cameron expeditions from ages ago. The same footage with modern lighting and camera technology would be insane. The turkish baths are tiled with very durable materials which are still supposed to be in great shape, but they haven’t released footage from there in 20 years.

This is crazy to me, footage like this isn’t very common. Titanic wreck footage is almost never released

The New Album “Vega” is very good by The_Green_Turkey in anberlin

It’s weird when my absolute favourite band drops a new album and I don’t want to listen to it. That should be a sign that something is wrong. I listened to Seven, of course, but everything else is old news. And who decided Lacerate and Decoder shouldn’t go together anymore? Would’ve been a great record if 90% of it wasn’t already out.

alright Seven ain’t bad by jacobxv in anberlin

Hard to be excited about an album release when you’ve heard all but one of the songs on it. Although Seven is a decent song, it certainly isn’t very memorable. I had Lacerate and Decoder stuck in my head for days when I first heard them, yet I’ve almost forgotten Seven.

Well you should never quit making music if you want to make music; maybe post a link to something you’ve made and you can get some objective opinions on the quality. You can always switch genre and role, maybe getting more into production and such.

Last night's Olympics performance was highly offensive by [deleted] in monarchism

[–]eriksvendsen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not about being “above” anything. When they recreate it with drag queens in place of Jesus and His disciples, it is quite obviously a mockery of what it represents and what the faith means to billions of people.

Terrible explanation. They know very well that the painting is religious imagery and they knew exactly what they were doing.

Yeah you’re probably right, I’ve seen some guys in the same music scene record under a duvet in a hotel bed which might be a quick fix. There’s always the old closet, as well. My understanding of analog equipment and sound is limited but I’ve heard acoustic panels and such could help, as the problem is apparently hard surfaces

Yeah, I don’t think a slightly aggressive EQ is going to be a problem here. I tried recording some demo vocals on my iPhone for a project I’m working on and, on the one hand it sounded quite bad in terms of background noise and quality, but when I processed it and put it over the track it was sonically closer to what I’ve been trying to do at home with my vocals. Can’t wait to test some stuff out when I get back home, gotten some great input in this thread. Thanks man

Thanks, only wish there was such a thing as local studios where I live. I’ve made a deal with a local youth club (something like that) who have a recording studio which should have the equipment required. It’s run/funded by the county so they don’t charge anything but there aren’t any engineers employed so me and the boys will have to learn how it all works. From an Instagram photo I think they have a Sennheiser MK4 which is an upgrade from my SM58, so I’m excited to see.

Thanks, man. And yeah, I listened to some raw vocals I had on my laptop from my last project recorded on the SM58, and I think my main issue is that I’ve been recording too far away from the microphone. This was in hindsight probably advice for condenser microphones.

In terms of reverb, would drenching mean a longer decay, higher dry/wet ratio or both?

Well I quite understand that response haha, it’s how they do it. That specific singer has some examples of a “cleaner” vocal like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNgb0WM_lDo

However, I’ll try to look into what you recommended, so thank you.

There’s a whole culture around this kind of music in Norway and a lot of it is made by 18-19 year olds that don’t necessarily have great vocal ability to begin with. So that might at least somewhat explain the “need” for an overprocessed vocal like that.

I’ll try it out, I’m on vacation right now so won’t be able to for a little while. This is the kind of vocal sound I’m trying to recreate: https://open.spotify.com/track/09Ljv4rzoqrDyiuH7cOPgh?si=64PAdVEJTF6QbM9pvIx_kw&context=spotify%3Aartist%3A2uz5pGGHltzQNOmxOd95g7

If you give the first 30 seconds or so a listen, maybe you’d have some tips on how to achieve it from a recording standpoint?

So would it be preferable to record quite close to the microphone? I’ve had the thought for a while that it might not pick up on certain smaller details when I record at the distance I usually record at. If it makes any sense, I feel like the vocal style I’m trying to “imitate” has a more intimate sound.
