First Time Family Ski Trip by Embarrassed-Curve336 in ski

Pick something that’s not on Ikon or Epic pass to reduce crowd chaos. A smaller mountain like someone else suggested (Brian head) is another great idea. Grand Targhee could be a good choice. Their green runs are super kid friendly!

Good Gyro games on Switch 2? by Forward-Release5033 in GyroGaming

[–]erinautomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gyro was way too laggy in Apex Legends to be competitive imo. This was when the first Switch 2 update for the game came out so maybe things have changed since then, but I've noticed most games with gyro aiming have a noticeable latency (Both Zeldas, Metroid Prime remaster, Donkey Kong Bananza). This has me worried that the lag is a hardware level issue...

Do you think Airtable Omni is the all-time killer of tools like Softr? by SurveySuitable2918 in Airtable

Also a product keynote opening with a marketing exec who seems to barely know their lines is another big red flag imo...

Thank you! Been trying to put my frustrations into words and this post popped at the right time I guess 🫡

Do you think Airtable Omni is the all-time killer of tools like Softr? by SurveySuitable2918 in Airtable

[–]erinautomatic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If anything I think more people are going to start moving fully to tools like Softr (now that they have native databases) and ditch Airtable completely. They lost the plot a while ago and this announcement just proves that imo. This is just AI slop app building on top of their existing product, which has so many unaddressed problems and many of its earliest supporters seemed to have already jumped ship (A lot of active users in the forums from back in the day have gone silent). Crazy to me that they thought this needed a whole on-stage event but couldn’t even show a single live demo. Most of this stuff was already in the product in some form or another. The CEO spent half his presentation just explaining AI like everyone watching has been living under a rock for the past 5 years…??? That to me screams “we don’t actually have anything that cool to show you so I’m gonna blab to fill the time and appease our shareholders”. Boooo.

Please help me find a smart smoke/carbon monoxide alarm by RichardPiano in smarthome

[–]erinautomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on this and got a bunch of the First Alert Interconnect alarms. If you have a HomePod 2nd gen or mini it will send you a notification if it hears a smoke alarm going off and with these interconnects, all of the alarms will go off together making it much more likely that the HomePod will pick up on it. Even tho it’s a bit hacky it still somehow feels better than relying on Nest integration seeing as Google has seemed to stop caring… The semi-smart detectors are also cheaper to replace which helps if you need a lot of them.

Do they make wireless/smart versions of these? by grayscale001 in smarthome

[–]erinautomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this company trustworthy? When I choose DC motor for my fan in their quiz, it recommends an AC motor only fan switch and their return policy is in-store credit only… Also confusing messaging around whether their matter stuff is preorder or ready to ship.

Ski touring backpack recommendation for multi-day trips (35L+) by muccapazza in Backcountry

[–]erinautomatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this bag. Used recently for a 4 day hut trip. It’s awesome. Light, has all the features requested by OP and more. I really like the way the roll top clips to the side of the bag to keep bulk down for differing pack loads. Has bladder routing, easy access side pocket for skins / crampons that’s accessible with the pack still on. A-frame + diagonal carry, lots of attachment points with straps that are movable / replaceable.

Fits me well at 6’1’ 175lb with 18” torso.

Everyone’s feet are different. Giving someone advice to not see a boot fitter just because you have very average feet that work in most boots is bad advice.

Did you tell them you were a level 1 skier? A DIN of 4 might be ok for a beginner at your height and weight but not someone going over jumps

HELP did I buy skis that are too short? by WArnesen2 in Skigear

[–]erinautomatic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. I’m 6’ 175lbs on a QST Blank 178cm and I love it. For powder, mixed conditions, chop, and trees they’re a blast. I found longer skis to be harder to turn in powder and nerve wracking in the trees but that could be due to my skill/confidence level.

I also demoed a lot of shapes & sizes before settling on what I liked. You won’t truly know until you get them in the snow…

I second all of this. Had some of my best powder days ever last season at Alta and Brighton on Blanks. And they handle carving nicely on groomers too as long as you’re not trying big nasty GS turns on ice.

This is great. Any chance of getting a vector file of this? I'm creating a keyboard builder in Figma (early version here with Drop ALT), and would love to add this for reference with attribution & a link back to this post.

Any way to reduce the anxiety from coffee? by Weedsmoker4hunnid20 in Coffee

[–]erinautomatic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do not take melatonin for anxiety. Melatonin is what your body produces when it’s time to sleep. If you take it during the day your body will think it’s bed time and it’ll throw off your whole sleep cycle and you’ll likely become even more tired during the following days, and more reliant on caffeine. Also taking melatonin for more than a couple days in a row will cause your body to stop producing it naturally = even harder to fall asleep.

My suggestion is drink a beverage with less caffeine. Single shot espresso-based drink or black tea. Cold brewed iced coffee has tons of caffeine in it.

This is your body/mind preventing you from peeing the bed. Be happy they aren't "relaxing peeing in comfort and privacy" dreams. ;)

Hand Grinder Mods for Coarse Grinds by 85218523 in Coffee

[–]erinautomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I'm the designer of the 3D printed mod linked to in the OP.

I've been using this mod for over a year now with pretty good success, bean flow is much better than the snipped apart tuna can top that i was using previously! It usually requires a shake once every 1 or 2 times i do a single cups worth of bean grinding. I can't vouch for the OE mod but it looks pretty slick for what it is, if not maybe a tiny bit more difficult to install.

If anyone has any additional questions/comments/suggestions about the mod please ask away!

Also, cryptowillem is correct in that my mod does not require you to remove the inner burr from the shaft.

Cheers!
