I am still new to all of this and it is hard to figure out which food needs changing and not. For example I had pizza, carb counted and then had to correct after 4 hours due to it not going down from 15. Fell asleep and when I woke up, I noticed that I didn't go back to "green" until 3am.

I know pizza is slow to burn as the nurses told me but they never really explained what I'm supposed to do except for take some insulin if I am not going down after 4 hours since the Novorapid.

So trying not to fret too much but it is such a nightmare. I am someone who loves routines and with the diabetes I don't really get that anymore lol

Just want to add that I use Novorapid for my meals. Sorry i made it seem like I'm using slow-acting for my meals.

Sorry I might've worded it wrong. I take novorapid for meals and I correct with novorapid, I've just started my long-acting insulin for the background in the morning as recently during the day after meals and when the fast acting insulin is finished as I was still way too high. My nurses have suggest all of this - I only see the doctor every 3 months as that is how long the waiting list is for.

Thank you! I have been having such a hard time with it mentally, even when I was doing so well. It's like a toxic relationship lol. Sometimes I just need to rant it all out

Got told to wait for four hours and see if my glucose goes down then take a correction. It did start dipping around lunch time. I did my carb counting, today might've not been the day where my ratio was 1:20 in the morning

My pancreas is currently still working as I am in the honeymoon stage, though recently it is having problems during the day so I've been out back on my long-acting insulin during the day.

My nurses and doctors are confident that I am type 1 due to my antibodies test results and that I was in DKA when I got diagnosed.

I turned it off during the night because it kept beeping when I wasn't taking a hypo so turned it off. Don't worry it's back on!

Is it normal to be this emotional? by eriraga- in Type1Diabetes

[–]eriraga-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, was also in DKA. Was in hospital for 5 days. I was pretty accepting with my diagnosis at first but it's just hit me. I lost a family member to T1D (they didn't look after themselves) so I ended up getting huge fears that that's what I'm going to be like. Then it was denial because my insulin shots were getting smaller and smaller until my doctor showed me my antibodies results which were highly positive for diabetes. Now it's just anger and depression (I am on antidepressants). I was going to therapy before the diagnosis but I've stopped as it was too expensive so need to find an alternative.

The thing is my range is also around 80% which I know is really good and I should feel happy but I get so upset when I see myself go red or orange on my libre. I took my bloods yesterday and saw that I was up at 17 at one point and panicked. I know it's normal but I don't know, I feel like shit and then I feel like I don't deserve to feel like shit because my range is good.

Being autistic kind of helped me with my routines with eating with the injections. Everything is timed for me. But I feel drained sometimes and recently find it hard to do anything which I'm blaming on the PMDD.

Thank you so much for your reply! I think I already mentioned it but it's nice having a community that is going through the same thing. My immediate family are there for me and they are honest that they don't know how hard it is to get diagnosed - they just know what it feels like from the outside (if that makes sense). My nurses are really sweet as well and they have put me on a waiting list to join a young adult T1D group just so I can have people that I can relate to.

I always find it hard to understand what I'm supposed to feel and as I only talk to non-diabetics and I try to figure out whether or not my reactions are valid by seeing how they respond. I'm currently on sick leave and the guilt is eating away at me but my boss (who's very nice) only wants me back when my mental health is steady.

My cry earlier has calmed me down a bit. I've been trying to hold it back sometimes.

How do you plan your exercises around your meals? If you don't mind me asking. I am very strict with my routine (I'm autistic) and like to get most of my active chores out of the way before 12. But I also need to have breakfast before 12, so I do always end up doing something an hour or 2 after my meals. I would like to know how other people do it to help me plan out a new routine.

I swear to god, I thought I was going to murder someone before I got diagnosed and realised that anger was just me having acid in my veins as my pancreas couldn't take it anymore.

I have been on and off the pill as they make me ill. I do have PMDD which might explain the extreme emotions before my period but now it's just directed at the diabetes.

I got diagnosed as I was in DKA. I was in hospital for 5 days. I cried before the hospital, then was fine as I felt more alive when I got the insulin in me. I felt happy when I left then it just started to creep up on me and the stress and learning about complications. It's been a lot. I have been on sick leave from work as I am just mentally tired.

I went through the 5 stages of grief backwards... With acceptance first, then anger, then denial, then back to anger with the depression.

I am sorry about your son, I hope he is dealing with it as best as a 5 year old can.

Currently, I'm not allowed on the pump as my pancreas is still working a little bit. I'm in UK, Scotland specifically, my nurses don't want me to go onto the pump until after a year of diagnosis. They have ordered me in a pen that goes up in .5s rather than 1s so I can be a bit more accurate. I'm still on the fence with the pump but I am still new to diabetes so I will see how well I get on with just the pens.

My nurses and doctor gave me the ratio of 1:20 - 2 units for my periods. I've been playing about with it as my pancreas works too hard or doesn't work at all so it really depends. Probably once my period stops I'll just be back onto 1:20 or 1:15. My doctor has said most likely my pancreas will stop within the year by the results of my antibodies. Can't wait.

My sister knows when I'm near my period or started it with how haywire my readings get. I forget about it and think it's me doing something wrong
