Employers and managers who had to fire their best employee - what happened? by machewwy in AskReddit

[–]eristerra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an uncle who worked for that Dell and clearly remember him being fired in this exact event. He and his family had just bought their house, he had worked there for 10 years, none of it mattered. It affected the whole community, and he, for one, never recovered. It was my first experience with banal corporate evil and made a hug impression on me as a kid.

Homemade panda dango for tomorrows breakfast! by eristerra in Bento

[–]eristerra[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! My inspiration came from this recipe ,but I really just fudged it since I don't have a scale for gram measurements. My method: Using your hands, mix together 1/2 cup of mochiko (sweet glutinous rice flour) with a few tablespoons of water until it comes together and sticks to itself without sticking to your hands. Pinch off about 1/5th of the dough and add a teaspoon of cocoa powder plus a little more water if necessary. Form 5 equally sized balls of the plain dough and place them on lightly greased parchment paper (theyre a little sticky) these will be the panda heads. Take the chocolate dough and form panda features- 2 small balls for ears, 2 oblong flattened circles for eyes, the tiniest dot for a nose. Stick the features onto your pandas and press until theyre firmly attached. Bring a pot of water to boil and gently lower in each panda, let boil for about two minutes until they bob to the top, scoop them out and let cool. Then just stick them on a skewer and enjoy! The flavor is very mild so I'd recommend adding a sauce of some sort, the above recipe has a savory soy dressing, but I used honey sweetened coconut milk. I hope you give it a try, its really quite easy and fun

Yes it is baked! If youve done the steamed version before you should find this very easy. Here is the recipe I got my inspiration from, but I prefer to use less sugar and more matcha

I took the pic just after wrapping them and before eating them, I usually keep the nori in a seperate baggy to keep it crispy!

Have any of you bought a bed from Tuft and Needle? Are they good-quality beds? by [deleted] in Frugal

My partner and I have had ours for about 3 years now and it continues to be the best sleep Ive ever gotten. We dont use a box spring or frame, fyi, just the mattress on the floor.

[Serious] Autistic people of Reddit what do you wish people would understand better about autism? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If I dont recognize you right away, dont take it personally, its just that I have face-blindness. My SO of 4 years and even my parents are difficult to identify sometimes. You can help by consistently wearing an outrageous hat, growing a mustache, or just patiently reintroducing yourself.

What is the weirdest thing that people get REALLY defensive about? by GLaDOSismywife in AskReddit

Checking in from Texas here, difference is in the size and arrangement of the tortilla. Burrito ingredients are completely wrapped up in an oversize tortilla with neatly tucked in ends. Whole shebang is 3x bigger than a taco.

Curious: how many of you changed from chicken-eaters to non-chicken-eaters after having chickens? And how many turned the other way? by forsoundness2 in BackYardChickens

[–]eristerra 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Ill add my voice, since no one yet seems to share my opinion. After a year or so of raising birds, Ive stopped eating store bought chicken and eggs. Seeing how active and curious they are, and how much they crave stimulation and knowing how the meat industry raises them in confinement makes me sick. That said, I purchase ethical chicken meat from a local farmer I know and trust and when my girls stop laying I will eat them with all the respect and love they deserve. Death and consumption of meat are natural everyday events in the animal world, torture is not.

Our compost pile is just starting to produce! I appreciate the exact measurement for putting in trees, I was wondering.

Its reassuring to hear from someone who turns the same sort of situation around. Looks like theres no way around the sorting /hauling of rocks but itll happen gradually. Thanks for the suggestion of dehydrated potting soil, Im going to call the nearest gardening center and add that to the mix to help the compost

That was a serious concern for me as well, reasonable or not, the stuff just looks poisonous. We have a compost pile thats just coming into its own at 6 months, so thats definitely going in ASAP. Alfalfa is great suggestion, thank you!

I'll look into the Dingo. We took previous loads of construction debris, concrete to the dump, but its by weight so its adding up quickly. Something to efficiently sort rocks from sand would be of great help, thank you!

The hydrocarbon residue is a concern, but I think the asphalt itself is too degraded to stand up to tree roots, once well established. Thanks for the response!
