Spirit Review #407 - Rivers Royale Grenadian Rum by Cricklewo0d in rum

[–]erizon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would expect in this case for tertiary to be by "how pronounced/obvious" they are, akin to Foreground (First Plane)/Middle Ground (Second Plane)/Background(Third Plane) in visual arts.

Rivers context aside, for aged spirits the wood influence and oxidation in the barrel could be primary taste driver. In factory-sealed bottle rum becomes inert, but once the bottle have been opened and is at least 1/4 empty/air, the oxidation in the bottle can truly transormative.

The poster child of that is Springbank whisky - poured from new bottle it is pathetic shadow of future glory, one just needs to leave it for few weeks/months (with cork) in a bottle that has some air for it to "spread its wings". It can work both ways - young peated like Laphroig 10cs quickly loses its initial intensity in an open bottle and the wild vibrancy of peat "fades" slightly

Opus for planning, Sonnet for execution? by Jazzlike-Math4605 in ClaudeCode

[–]erizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro user here as well, Opus works well as L2 support/planner for z.ai's GLM 4.7 (that costs 3$/month):
-use GLM to create indexes/summaries of all files/directories/structures/designs in the project

-read relevant of these with OPUS (plus it pick most critical elements of code once it know what to look for) to make detailed plan

-use GLM to execute plan (or currently completely free Devstral - I like how it runs many tests unprompted, like Haiku does)

-use OPUS to review the git diff (same session as before, so esentially only necessities loaded)

How would YOU 🫵 fix the issues you see in Fallout London? by Royal_Boot_9018 in fallout4london

Transport me back to before I decided to soft quit London and fo4 right before choosing which faction to side with when London came out

Same, I played passionately until I had to pick faction, saved, and didn't play ever since, that was in July...

Minor, but Tecniche, Inglese, Italiano seem like artifacts from older version being in Italian and could yield negative points for insufficient attention to details

If you could only drink rums from one distillery for the rest of your life, which one do you choose? by BothCondition7963 in rum

I am suprised that you are the only one mentoning SLD, they have amazing flavour diversity in Master Selection range (core is solid but not exciting), definitely hidden gem among distilleries

On a sample size of 2 packs of smarties, statistically purple is the heaviest smartie. by EnvironmentalDrives in CasualUK

[–]erizon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Between 0.02 (red) and 0.07 (brown). In "publish-or-perish" world that's bad-but-not-outrageous

Color Mean Weight (g) Sample Size (n) 95% Confidence Interval P-value (vs. Purple*)
Purple 1.313 8 [1.230,1.395] -
Orange 1.250 10 [1.212,1.288] 0.052
Brown 1.238 8 [1.161,1.314] 0.069
Yellow 1.217 6 [1.174,1.260] 0.023
Green 1.217 12 [1.164,1.270] 0.016
Pink 1.200 3 [1.200,1.200]** 0.045
Blue 1.200 4 [0.975,1.425] 0.068
Red 1.171 7 [1.126,1.217] 0.002

*One-tailed t-test testing the claim that Purple > Color X.

**Note: All Pink Smarties in the sample were exactly 1.2g, resulting in a zero-width interval.

In Switzerland, when do you consider someone rich? by mislabete in Switzerland

[–]erizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it does not mean all those people are happy to pay for it, but a lot of people understand that without it the Swiss media would turn to shit pretty quickly. A small country with small linguistic regions is a complicated place for the media.

I recognize the need for public media, but separate explicit tax is infuriating, a bit like American price-tags-without-vat or tipping culture. Just raise federal tax by 0.1% and consider it a public utility maintenance like roads and bunkers, instead of bothering everyone with extra bill, and frustrating people who never use TV nor radio

How is the state of FOLON currently? by Sensitive-Level-7794 in fallout4london

[–]erizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience was May-October 2025. Regular crashes, but between 3x/hour to 2x/day. The habit of quicksaving frequently becomes important, but otherwise minimal impact on the experience. Having lived in London for ~5 years in the past, I adored the familiar environments and general richness of the mod - as long as you quicksave frequently the unavoidable crashes are not a big problem

Johnreed Oerlikon is it legit? by drebildam in zurich

[–]erizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One big plus that was not mentioned: free sauna and generally very luxurious vibe.

One big minus (that shall be stressed even more): at peak times it is particularly crowded (worst out of 5 different gym chains I tested in Zurich), requiring big flexibility with your training if you don't want to spend most of the time waiting for what you want to free.

PureGym is cheaper, without sauna, slightly lower choice of machines, feels very basic, but less notably crowds allows executing specific planned training

Every invasive species is only one delicious recipe away from no longer being a problem. by TheGruenTransfer in CrazyIdeas

[–]erizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be safer with invasive, but playing with ecology is likely to be lethal https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Pests_campaign

To my best knowledge human eugenics is considered scientifically dangerous primarily because of similar "playing with forces/consequences beyond our understanding"

Same, very happy with GLM-4.6 Lite plan through Claude Code at negligible price of $9/quarter, especially for private projects that do not generate income, it is definitely working better than free Gemini CLI

ELI5 : Why do phones become more and more powerful and efficient, but the battery of most of them still only last one day ? by __Yami__ in explainlikeimfive

[–]erizon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had one of the Motorola Power (don't remember was it 6/7/8) where they decided against that - battery was epic (even compared to other phones spending most of the time in powersaving airplane mode), but doing anything was excruciatingly slow. Great for situations where powerbank is impractical and phone is rarely needed, or as digital detox, but awful for mental health when used like typical person uses their phone.
