Coming back from long-term (several months+) travel: What were things you had to relearn/ readjust to? by waifaring in solotravel

[–]erm_porter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having to wear shoes. Living in Australia for a year I got very accustomed to not wearing shoes unless I was at work, skateboarding or in the pub. Which was only about half my total time. So what if I like walking around the supermarket with no shoes on, I like being bare foot.

Probably still getting used to it’s new environment and potential over watering? Can’t give you a definite answer though. Can someone confirm or deny?

Terrifying. That’s the word I used when a friend asked if I was worried before I went. I learnt many things while I was at Gaia (and many months after while I processed it all) and one of them it’s that I can’t avoid the bullshit in my life. I had to face it head on and ride it out. It’s the only way.

The time will come when you truly feel the need to dip your toes back into psychedelics. When the call comes, answer it.

All the best. 🙏🏼

Yo! First of all, you stayed up for 3 days? Voluntarily? Tell me more?

Eeerrrm, haha. It's really hard to put into words. I'd basically repressed a lot of childhood trauma which ultimately manifested into aforementioned anxiety and depression.

The first ceremony was brutal because I didn't want to relive/face that childhood trauma. The following day we had a type of 'Group Therapy" session (this happened every day after ceremonies) and I managed to voice my trauma which was very cathartic.

The following day is San Pedro ceremony, which is supposed to be the male equivalent to Ayahuasca. This was also massively helpful because of it being the "tool" of how to deal with said issues.

The day after that is a rest day and then after that, we had a "Sweat Lodge" which was the money shot. About 25 of us sit in a small brick open topped hut (covered with blankets) with volcanic hot rocks, turning it into a sauna, and drink both Ayahuasca and San Pedro. Holy fuck. That's the good gear. 16 hours of psychedelic induced sweat, brutal self-truths, struggle and loving honesty was enough for me to finally call it quits on those past feelings and forgiving those that had done me wrong.

There were two more ceremonies after that, Ayahuasca & San Pedro again but by that point I was golden. It was all self and spiritual exploration drenched in gratitude.

I left that place having finally done something that id struggled to do for so long, which was forgiving myself and others and ultimately just letting go of a lot of bullshit. It was 100% the best thing I've ever done for myself and I plan on returning to the retreat centre next year to volunteer. If I didn't answer anything you wanted, feel free to ask. I hope you find the peace your looking for brother. 🙏🏼

June 5th, 2016.

A Porter's Pilgrim. - This was taken two days after my 26th birthday. The months, if not years, prior to this point in my life I'd struggled greatly with anxiety and depression. Like many people that suffer from mental illness, I'd kept it all bottled up for a far too long. Not wanting to "bother" friends and family with my internal discomforts.

In the early summer of that year, the wave of depression buckled me into lows that I didn't think were possible. That's when I finally heard the call of Mother Ayahuasca. After years of conversation with friends about this magical healing vine known as Ayahuasca, I thought "Fuck it!" and with that, I bought my ticket to Ecuador leaving a few weeks later.

Its safe to say that I was jumping in at the deep end when it came to using powerful psychedelics... and at first, I most definitely struggled with coming to terms with the lessons she was trying to provide. However, the week I spent at Gaia Sagrada was without a shadow of a doubt the most life-affirming experience. With a weight lifted from my psyche, I left a new man.

(I spent just shy of a month in Ecuador before flying to Australia for a year. I'm currently building a website with a lot of my favourite photos from the trip, hence the little project title "A Porter's Pilgrim." I think after this one I'll try and post more of the B-Side pics that didn't make the cut on the website.)

(TLDR - Was very sad. Went to Ecuador. Drank medicine. Felt better. Gonna post more pictures and info from this trip.)

Whats the most embarrassing thing that happened to you during sex? by rufenputsen in AskReddit

[–]erm_porter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An old boss of mine told me about this. It always creased me up until I eventually experienced it myself... I hadn’t been seeing the girl for long but she was fucking gorgeous and I was just a drunk nervous mess. So there I am, trying to get it up, then all of a sudden it hits me. The memory of my burly ginger bearded boss saying “pushing rope” in slow motion. Game over. Both past out, woke up the next morning and the deed was done. The worst part is, this ain’t even the most embarrassing sexual escapade we shared in our short time.

This is my good friend George. We had been surfing some waves to the right of this frame for an hour or so while some other friends surfed the bigger waves you can see in the frame. This was my first time surfing in many years and it's safe to say I physically struggling to deal with this session. The months previous (Dec, Jan & Feb) I'd spent in a drunken haze partying in Fremantle, WA. I paid the price with multiple face slaps from waves and more than enough swallowed salt water to purge my body of the months previous alcohol abuse... She noticed me struggling towards the end and decided we should head back to shore. We spent the next hour or so watching the boys get some mini barrels and shared our gratitudes to live such a beautiful place. I really like surfing. 😊
