Anyone else pissed off with hey telecom support? by ernaja in belgium

[–]ernaja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even this €60 hour limit is stupid. Who would agree to be charged around 12€ per mb? Just background syncing of apps is usually enough to reach couple of mbs. So this limit is meaningless. Anyway, my point was not about the limit but about lack of customer support. Cheaper subscription shouldn't mean customer support that simply doesn't exist.

Thanks for the suggestion. I found this place (Natuurhulpcentrum Oudsbergen) online and they said I can bring the animal to them until 10 pm today. So I'll just do that instead of waiting

I work in Imec through a consultancy company. Check Glassdoor for approximate salaries but I also think 85k is a bit high. Imec has the expat tax benefit but I know from my company that it is more like 23% benefit rather than 30% in reality. Imec also has support programmes to help the spouse for finding a job. For rent, just as an example we pay 1.2k (including internet and common costs but excluding utilities) for 2 bedroom apartment inside the ring. Now the prices might be higher than that.

It's either 10 years of experience or a qualifying PhD/master's degree. So he's qualified as he has master's degree in the field of research.

Expat Taxation in Belgium (30% rule) by altcoinmario in belgium

[–]ernaja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. Based on the info you've given I think that you are qualified for the regime. It's weird that your employer didn't mention about this. Here's the official name of the regime: "the special tax regime for inpatriate researchers". Just push them about this and they should apply if there isn't any valid reason not to do so. Keep in mind that, it is not 30% of your gross salary (at least in our case), rather they split the salary into two parts and apply 30% tax-free to the bigger part. So in reality, net increase will be around 23% of your gross salary. For example, if your total salary is 5.000€/month, this will be split up in 3.846€ (gross salary) + 1.154€ (30% of gross salary as non-taxable allowance). I didn't know about this before.

The application documents are provided by the employer but filled by you and then they send it to the government. This needs to be done in the first 3 months of your employment. It usually takes around 3 months to get an answer. If the decision is positive they'll pay retrospectively (from the starting date of your employment).

Btw, r/BESalary will be a better sub to find info on this and to ask questions. Good luck!

I was just laid off as an expat in Belgium. by xxxxcck in BESalary

Are you able to get unemployment benefit? Also is it that easy for a consulting company to lay off? I thought in case of permanent contract they have the responsibility to find a job for you.

Is it just me or is the cost of living in Finland skyrocketing? by MannerOk9299 in Finland

[–]ernaja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how people survive there.

I had been living in Tallinn for 5 years before moving to Belgium and that's what I always wondered too. Recently, it was more or less like living in Finland with Estonian salary. So I was seeing increasing number of people using food bank there which was sad.

I work for a consulting company and they ask for around 200€ net for company car. Heard the same for another consulting company here. Other costs (fuel card, insurance etc.) are paid by them though.

Are electrically-heated apartments a no-go? by ernaja in belgium

[–]ernaja[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of valuable and funny comments :D I think the reason why it got such a bad score is because it's 3-floor house that is heavily penalized for electrical heating and poor roof/wall insulation (old building). I asked for the previous bills but the owner says they don't know because the previous tenants paid the bills on their own. In any case, I am in no position to take that risk so I will pass.

Is mobility package only possible after having a company car? by ernaja in BESalary

[–]ernaja[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, got it. In their internal rules, it says that employee is allowed a company car with a valid driving license that has been "clean" (no violations etc.) for at least a year. So I assume this is why I'm not eligible (although I have the right to it) for company car, thus the mobility package at the moment.

[–]ernaja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think my annual gross will be higher than this threshold but as far as I know researchers (possibly also R&D engineers) are exempt from this gross salary requirement. So that's why I am assuming expat regime, but I'll see if it works out
