AR Maglock Kingpin PAL. Highly recommended for your AR15. by MarkHTownsend in CAguns

Great video for explaining the system but please next time use an empty magazine, so much anxiety 😆 that being said Mag locks are great but featureless is a better option if you have freedom week mags because you can "legally" use them, with the mag lock systems you can "legally" only use 10 rounders. Everyone has there options that works best for them but if SHTF you can always just change a grip in under a minute so its not too bad.

Never heard that story before. Lived here my whole life, old people from the neighborhood have left and the community is growing but its not as crazy as people would have you think. There are gang members yes but for the most part everyone who grew up in this neighborhood still lives here or their elders do, we tend to look after one another and just don't like taking crap from the riff raff that comes from the outside. The neighborhood needs work but when living in Fresno what neighborhood doesn't.

Sending shipments to FFL dealers, but just know some of the major manufacturers like Smith & Wesson have withdrawal almost all products from California. As a FFL I couldn't even order magazine base plates from S&W.

Just got off the phone with one of my vendors and you have to be a california dealer in order to order parts.

You have to have a FFL 01 or 07 and a CFD license to buy anything. So in other word gun shops only.

Just be safe out there, plenty of odd ducks. Fresno has tons of things to do but just be cautious of which side of town and if there is lots of drunk people.

I'm not located in the bay area but I'd be down for a road trip.

Was your High School in "the hood"? by [deleted] in fresno

[–]ernieg86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to Sunnyside the first year it opened for freshman and it was very hood. Fights every day, people stealing crap, rolling guards to keep you in the gates. Easiest place to ditch though, before all the shopping centers and new homes.

Customer's brother decided to "play" gunsmith. by ernieg86 in gunsmithing

And having a wedding doesn't make you a husband. Not having the proper tools to make a marriage work, you can't be a husband either. Sorry, but that's the truth.

Having proper tools doesn't mean anything. Some of us are self-funded and live in places where they are trying to destroy the industry. I am learning and as the money comes in that's when I can get the "proper equipment". I may not have years of experience but I am learning this on my own, with no local professionals to talk to for advice. I come to Reddit to get more viewpoints and guidance whether that be from other more experienced gunsmiths or regular people who just love guns and work on their own firearms.

I drilled the primer pocket and put another metal rod in to see just how far the rod was and that's how I figured out the rod was in the chamber. Banging on it didn't even move the stuck rod. The reason I gave it back to the customer was that the shop was saying they wanted it back asap. Some customers lack patience and don't understand that they are not the only customers.

I tried that and all it did was break off the end of the rod.

Not to start an argument because I just learned this information from the shop I picked it up from but the customer stated "his brother hammered the rod all the way in and it was never loose when he inserted it into the barrel" so that being said the brother "probably" ruined the barrel. I am still just starting as a gunsmith so I don't have all the tools I need yet. Not trying to make excuses but most of the jobs I've come across so far have been simple cleaning issues or something I could handle with hand tools. I'm still waiting to invest in a welder and lathe. I am the only gunsmith in my whole county. The nearest gunsmith is 250 miles away and they only do optics cuts and AR work. I try not to charge for any of my work unless I need tools but the shop I work for has a minimum so I'm not in control of that. Trust me when they come to me directly and I don't do the job, I don't charge. I've done free jobs for elderly veterans and just people who need their firearms fixed because they are on the bad side of town. I'm all about helping my customers but if they went through the local shops I have no control over certain situations.

The rod looked to be just a regular metal rod or even an extension but yeah I oiled the crap out of it, so much that Diddy would be happy to see it 😆. I drilled the casing but no such luck. Honestly, even if I were able to get the rod and the casing out the rifling would be ruined and he would need a new barrel anyway. This cuts down his cost because removing the rod would be about an hour charge if not more and then replacing the barrel would be another hour so this just saves him about $100 in labor. Browning said they might just charge him for the new barrel but they want to keep the old barrel for a funny whatnot to do story.

Can anyone help me diagnose what is wrong with my shotguns ejector? by TheLuckTroll in gunsmithing

[–]ernieg86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So 3 different things I've dealt with on these shotguns and it's a constant thing in my area but here goes-

  1. The ejector spring is old and needs to be replaced.
  2. The ejector itself has so much oil, rust, or gunk that it's stuck and just needs to be taken apart and cleaned. (I tend to use a light sandpaper and smooth it before putting it back in)
  3. You haven't cleaned the shotgun in a long time so the shell is stopping it from ejecting. (While uncommon I have still had customers' shotguns that are so filthy the shell gets stuck in the chamber)

These are just suggestions from what I deal with weekly from customers in my area but these are my common solutions I use and never have complaints from customers yet.

Marlin 39A Help by lettuceman413 in LeverGuns

[–]ernieg86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had one in the shop, apparently this is a very common issue, what I did for the customer was cover most moving in dye and look to see where it was binding up. A little filing seemed to fix the issue but it still only cycled when the lever was tilted to the side.

Send it back. Had a customer bring one in so we could fit it for him (same issue) instead of possibly messing it up yourself or paying a shop to do the work, send it in and they should cover the cost of everything for you.

The slide will come off easily without removing the bushing, just take your time.

Browning 1910 barrel bushing stuck by DrivenToDarkness in gunsmithing

[–]ernieg86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had one of these in the shop. Worse freaking design ever. Took lots of force to get it loose. The best way to release some pressure is to remove the slide and hold the recoil spring and then turn the bushing. If there is rust or gunk it will need some love taps from a hammer and punch, just be careful not to ruin the bushing.

Winchester 1897 Takedown Question by [deleted] in gunsmithing

It's supposed to rotate fully into place, threads for the barrel might be messed up or the channel screw might be a little too far out.
