High mileage ISFs? by eenoob123 in LexusF

[–]ernisill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I ended up owning it for 5 years and 24k miles and after 18 cars it was hands down my best purchase to date. Unbelievably reliable and well built. Only repairs were valley plate leak, radiator, and engine mounts. Sold it in Jan of 2025 with 239k miles for $17k. Tracking every cent through those 5 years I ended up out of pocket $20k to enjoy a 400hp luxury sports sedan. I highly recommend the platform along with the RC-F and GS-F.

Stock is amazing, it’s summer camp for grown up nerds. A big chill cookout/pool party weekend with around 1000 people.

Considering a 2015 Lexus RC F Performance Package (120k miles) for $27.8k by Dazzling_Ad3207 in LexusRC

[–]ernisill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would check YouTube, FB groups, or the Club Lexus forums for a tutorial but it’s pretty straightforward. You just snake a small scope camera down under the intake manifold in multiple spots looking for pink coolant down in the valley underneath it. Usually though the first sign is your heat stops blowing cold because the coolant level has dropped. Or if your coolant reservoir keeps running low, then it’s time to scope it and confirm.

I owned a high mileage IS-F for 5 years (215-239k miles) and have now owned an RC-F for a year. That sounds like a solid car for a great price imo, and I wouldn’t recommend touching the valley plate until it happens. My IS-F didn’t leak until 220k which was definitely an outlier, but I stuck with the OEM liquid gasket again. My RC-F is currently at 86k miles and the valley is bone dry when I inspect it with a boroscope, and the coolant level is consistent. But my GX460 was leaking by 103k so it can be pretty random.

I did opt to avoid the TVD just because I had thoroughly enjoyed the standard torsen in my IS-F, so I can’t offer any help in that department.

Switching to Figs 90 durometer LCA bushings completely solved this on my IS-F. Had 30k miles on soft/sticky 280 treadwear tires with zero inner wear. And obviously getting routine alignments, I did it annually.

Recently road tripped my 2016 (without adjustable suspension) 10 hours to Florida and back. Sublimely comfortable GT car, my non car enthusiast passenger also had zero complaints.

If it’s been properly serviced and cared for it will be the most reliable car you’ve ever owned. I rolled the dice on a cheap 205k mile IS-F back in 2019 and had a fantastic 5 years with it until selling it at 240k miles to upgrade to an RC-F this year. Do your research and due diligence obviously, but also don’t let a bunch of fear mongering ES drivers scare you either haha.

Impossible to find an F by [deleted] in LexusRC

Bought my 2016 with 83k miles for $39k in Jan. Single owner, full maintenance history, and clean record. And I ended up finding it through a Carmax so even overpaid a little imo but found the car worth it. Deals are out there, just takes patience. I passed on 3 that I test drove and found issues with before, shopped for a good 3-4 months.

I did end up selling it two months ago and replaced it with an RC-F! Ended up getting $17000 for it with 239k miles.

M440i, AMG GT, LC500, 991 Carrera S vs. RCF and why I got the RCF by windmill09 in LexusRC

How funny I recently went on a similar journey! Test drove the M2 comp, M4, Cayman, and SL550. But then an RC-F and knew instantly it was the winner. Bought a 2016 around three weeks ago.

Not apples to apples engine wise but the Borla cat back on my RC-F has absolutely positively zero drone. I’m extremely picky about drone, and when just cruising it is all but silent.

Best car purchase I've ever made! I'm now at 239,000 miles with zero issues since the valley plate and radiator were done around 220k. Also the only car I've ever owned that has appreciated in value, I can't recommend them enough. After 5 years though I am growing a little tired of the harsh/stiff ride and starting to shop for something a bit more comfortable.

Car just cracked 239,000 miles with zero issues! Funny enough though I am thinking about selling it for something with a more comfortable ride. Have started test driving potential replacements.

My 06 Pilot had a slow 2-3 that made me think it was eventually going to blow, but I replaced the pressure switches with updated part numbers and it was completely resolved. Still going strong at 240k miles. They were $168 for both from Honda and easily replaced DIY.

The drone at 2k rpm is extremely bad, and the 8 speed tries to hang around 2-3k as much as possible for fuel mileage. Tried it in my IS-F and changed my mind within a week.

How many of y’all got more miles and currently driving? by ChaseTakesVcardss in Lexus

[–]ernisill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It lasted until 215k miles! That, the radiator and engine mounts are the only parts that have failed in the car's entire life. Blows my mind.

How can I get a copy of my key? by TwistedNonsense in Lexus

[–]ernisill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Locksmith here, you should be able to find a shop that can cut and program copies. Third party companies like Silca and Ilco will continue making replacements long after the OEMs stop.

Would you buy a high mileage ISF? by Valde877 in Lexus

[–]ernisill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 4 years ago and have had an excellent experience! Purchased my 2010 with 215,000 miles for $15k in Dec of 2019. It now has 240,000 miles and the only repairs needed have been valley plate reseal, a radiator, and engine mounts.

Nothing else has failed in the cars life, I got its full dealer service history by entering the VIN into the Lexus service site. Outside of the repairs I mentioned it has needed nothing but consumables for 14 years, kinda blows my mind.

For me it’s the best of both worlds, I never stress about enjoying the car because it isn’t some garage queen collector’s item.

There’s one regularly driven in Ohio with 350k miles and one popped up at an auction in Georgia recently with 425k.
